Kernavė

The Kernavė hillforts (Lithuanian: Kernavės piliakalniai, Kernavė hillforts) are five hillforts at the southern edge of Kernavė (Širvintos District, Aukštaitija, Lithuania) in the Pajauta Valley on the right side of the Neris valley. Kernavė is the oldest known (but not the first) capital of Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Since 1989 the site is part of the Kernavė State Cultural Reserve, added to the Unesco World Heritage List in 2004. It includes the following hillforts: Lizdeika Hillfort Mindaugas Throne Hillfort Altar Hillfort Castle hill Hillfort Kriveikiškis Hillfort, located some 0.4 km away from the close group of the four other hillforts, on the right bank of the Kernavėlė Stream.

Musninkai is a town in Širvintos district municipality, Vilnius County, east Lithuania. According to the Lithuanian census of 2011, the town has a population of 415 people. The town has a Catholic church. Its alternate names include Muśniki (Polish), Musnikai, Musninkay, and Musnik (Yiddish).

The Draučiai shooting was a shooting spree that occurred in Draučiai, a small village in the Širvintos District Municipality, Lithuania on February 15, 1998, when 58-year-old Leonardas Zavistonovičius, a Polish local, killed nine Lithuanian people and wounded another, before being beaten to death. Due to the ethnicities of the perpetrator and the victims, it was speculated that the crime was politically motivated, but the investigation proved this to be untrue: Zavistonovičius had severe mental illness.

Airėnai I is a village located in the Vilnius District Municipality. It is part of the Neris Regional Park. According to the census of 2011, the village has a population of 83, a decrease from 112 in 1984. Airėnai II village is located nearby.

Bartkuškis Manor is a former residential manor in Bartkuškis village, Širvintos District Municipality.

The Karmazinai mound (also called Viršupis) is a hill fort (piliakalnis) in Vilnius district municipality, Lithuania. It is situated about 0.8 km northwest of the Karmazinai village, 40 m from the right bank of the Dūkšta River, close to its confluence with Neris. The Karmazinai burial mound is located some 1.8 km southeast of the hillfort, about 0.3 km northeast of the village, about 0.2 km northeast of the right bank of the Neris, in the forest.

Karmazinai is a village in Vilnius district municipality, Lithuania. It is situated on the right bank of Neris River, by forest, part of the Neris Regional Park. There is an ancient burial mound and hill fort (Karmazinai mound) about 0.8 km northwest of the village.

Airėnai II is a village located in the Vilnius District Municipality. It is part of the Neris Regional Park. According to the census of 2011, the village has a population of 110, a decrease from 257 in 1959. Airėnai I village is located nearby.

The Bradeliškės hill fort (also called Pakilta ) is a hill fort (piliakalnis) in Vilnius district municipality, Lithuania.

Bražuolė bridge bombing was an explosion under a railway bridge at around 7 a.m. on 6 November 1994 over the Bražuolė River on the Vilnius–Kaunas Railway near Vievis, Lithuania. While the bridge was heavily damaged, train derailment was avoided due to lucky coincidence. Two passenger trains were scheduled to cross the bridge soon after the explosion. One, warned by a local resident, slowed and managed to cross the bridge on the side that suffered little damage. It then alerted the oncoming train which stopped in time. It is believed that the bombing is connected to the Coup of the Volunteers in September 1993 when about 150 armed men from the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Forces (then known as Savanoriškoji krašto apsaugos tarnyba or SKAT) left their posts and presented political demands as well as to the murder of SKAT officer Juras Abromavičius who was investigating the coup and the bombing in January 1997. None of the three incidents have been solved and no one has been charged.

Dūkštos is a village in Vilnius District Municipality, Lithuania. According to the 2011 census, the village had a population of 311 people, up from 164 in 1979.

Jauniūnai natural gas compression station is a gas compressor station in Lithuania, located in Jauniūnai, Širvintos District Municipality. Capacity at the station is 34.5 MW. The station will be the end point of the planned Gas Interconnection Poland–Lithuania.
