Gelli, Rhondda

Nebo, Ystrad Rhondda was the first Baptist chapel in the Rhondda Valleys. Founded in 1786, and known as Ynysfach, its first minister was one Thomas Edwards. The name was changed to Nebo in the early part of the nineteenth century. Nebo was the mother church to numerous other chapels in the valley including Hebron, Ton Pentre in 1868, and Noddfa, Treorchy which subsequently became much larger than Nebo in terms of membership. With the industrialisation of the valley it was rebuilt and extended in 1857 and again in 1876. Its membership peaked at 318 in 1905, in the immediate aftermath of the Welsh Revival. By 1940 the membership had fallen to 132, with a further sharp decline to 62 by 1945. Garfield Eynon became Nebo's last minister in 1953 and the church was without a minister after his departure in 1962. Nebo closed in the early 1980s and the chapel was subsequently demolished. A short portion of the boundary wall and fence remains in situ.Some housing was later built adjacent to the site, which was named Nebo Estate.

Ton Pentre Football Club (Welsh: Clwb Pêl-droed Ton Pentre) is a football team based in Ton Pentre, Wales, which plays in the South Wales Alliance League Premier Division, the fourth level of Welsh league football. Nicknamed the "Rhondda Bulldogs", the team plays at Ynys Park, Ton Pentre, Rhondda Cynon Taff. Home strip is all red, away strip is all blue with white detail.

Mynydd Y Gelli is one of the mountains that forms the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, United Kingdom. The name Mynydd Y Gelli is also loaned to the Iron Age burial site that lies on one of its sides above Tonypandy, Clydach Vale and Llwynypia. Another more grandiose name for the site is the Rhondda Stonehenge.

Ton Pentre (Welsh: Ton Pentre) is a village in the Rhondda Valley in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. Historically part of Glamorgan, Ton Pentre, a former industrial coal mining village, is a district of the community of Pentre. The old district of Ystradyfodwg was named after the church at Ton Pentre. Ton Pentre is, perhaps, best known for an event in 1924, when the Duke of York (later George VI of the United Kingdom) played a round of golf with Trade Unionist Frank Hodges.

Hebron, Ton Pentre was one of the largest Baptist churches in the Rhondda valleys during their industrial heyday. As membership increased the chapel was rebuilt in 1889 and a schoolroom added in 1908. The chapel was a branch of Nebo, Ystrad Rhondda, which had evolved out of Ynysfach Chapel, the first Baptist cause in the Rhondda established in 1786. A small group of members from Nebo initially built a schoolroom at Pentre, in response to the rose in population in the 1860s and in 1868, 52 members from Nebo were released to form a church which was formally established on 7 November 1868. A week later the first Baptism was held at the church.The church remained active through the twentieth century, and the Rev W.D. Morgan came there as minister from Bethesda, Tycroes in 1949. It celebrated its centenary in 1968. However, decline set in as the older generation died out and with them the traditional Welsh-speaking chapel-going tradition. The chapel closed in the later 1990s.

Ystradyfodwg or Ystrad Dyfodwg (Vale of Tyfodwg) was an ancient upland parish in Glamorgan, Wales. It is believed to have been named after Dyfodwg (or Tyfodwg) a 6th-century saint or chieftain. The Parish included most of the area which would later be known as Rhondda named for the parish rivers, Rhondda Fawr and Rhondda Fach.

The River Cynon (Welsh: Afon Cynon) in South Wales is a main tributary of the Taff. Its source is the rising of Llygad Cynon (OS grid ref SN 95240 07740) at 219m above sea level at Penderyn, Rhondda Cynon Taf and flows roughly southeast, into the Taff at Abercynon in the same district. The water emerging at Llygad Cynon has been traced back to the sink of the Nant Cadlan at Ogof Fawr.The Nant Cadlan and its tributary the Ceunant Du rise on the slopes of Cefn Cadlan to the northeast of Penderyn flowing initially southeast and then south on the east side of the village to the point where the Cynon arises, adding to the flow emerging from the rising. The waters of the Nant y Bwllfa enter the Cynon as a left-bank tributary between Penderyn and Hirwaun. Downstream, the course of the river has been altered at the former Hirwaun Ironworks. The combined flow of the Nant Hir and Nant Melyn enter the river to the north of Penywaun and that of the Nant y Gwyddel to the east of Penywaun. The Dare River enters as a right bank tributary at Aberdare and the Aman River at Aberaman. The final tributary of any size is the Nant Pennar which enters on the Cynon's left bank at Mountain Ash (Welsh: Aberpennar).

Ystrad Rhondda railway station is a railway station serving Ystrad in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It is located on the Rhondda Line. Alphabetically, it is the last station in the UK with the first being Abbey Wood station in southeast London.

Rhondda (Welsh: Y Rhondda) was a local government district in the geographical area of the Rhondda Valley, south Wales. The district was initially created as Ystradyfodwg Local Government District from parts of Ystradyfodwg, Llanwonno and Llantrisant parishes, Glamorgan, in 1877, when the Local Government Act 1858 was adopted. A local board was formed to govern the area. The Local Government Act 1894 reconstituted the area as Ystradyfodwg Urban District, with an elected urban district council replacing the local board. It was renamed Rhondda Urban District in 1897 after the River Rhondda. In 1955 Rhondda received a charter of incorporation to become the Municipal Borough of Rhondda.The Local Government Act 1972 completely reorganised local government in Wales in 1974. The Borough of Rhondda, with an identical area to the municipal borough, was one of six local government districts of the new county of Mid Glamorgan from 1974 to 1996. The borough was abolished in 1996, with its area passing to the unitary Rhondda Cynon Taf county borough.

St Peter's Church is an Anglican church serving the parish of Ystradyfodwg and the village of Pentre in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. It is located on Pentre Road, with the south-west end of its churchyard fronting the main thoroughfare of Llewellyn Street (A4058). It was built in the Early English style in 1887–1890 to the designs of Kempson and Fowler and was designated as a Grade II* listed building in 1991.

Pentre is a village, community and electoral ward near Treorchy in the Rhondda valley, falling within the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. The village's name is taken from the Welsh word Pentref, which translates as homestead, though Pentre is named after a large farm that dominated the area before the coming of industrialisation. The community takes in the neighbouring village of Ton Pentre.
