The 2+1⁄2-story wood frame Italianate house was built c. 1855 by Captain Sylvester Baxter, a politically prominent local ship's captain. The house exterior has been stuccoed, and the roof is a cross-gable style with a square cupola on top. The eaves of the roof and cupola are studded with decorative brackets. The windows are topped by stilted segmented arches. The front entrance is sheltered by a hip-roofed porch supported by clusters of round columns.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

It is T-shaped in plan, with varied gables that have applied stickwork decoration, and its windows have boldly stylized pediments. The property also includes a period barn with cupola. Its owner, Thomas Gray, was a prominent local captain of steamships.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The Pleasant–School Street Historic District is a predominantly residential historic district in the Hyannis village of Barnstable, Massachusetts. It includes 37 properties on Pleasant and School Streets, between Main and South Streets, near the center of Hyannis. Pleasant Street was laid out in the 18th century, and School Street was laid out c. 1850, and is distinctive for its cohesive collection of Greek Revival cottages, most of which were owned by mariners active in the coasting trade. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The Hyannis Transportation Center (HTC) is an intermodal transportation center in Hyannis, Massachusetts, operated by the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA). It is the terminus for several CCRTA bus lines and its CapeFLYER passenger train that operates on summer weekends between Boston South Station and Hyannis. It is also used by the Plymouth and Brockton Street Railway, Peter Pan Bus Lines, and Greyhound via CapeBus intercity bus services. The Cape Cod Central Railroad uses a separate station building across the tracks for its excursion services. A rail yard used by the Cape Cod Central is located north of the station, along with a former roundhouse. The first Hyannis station was built by the Cape Cod Railroad in 1854. It was replaced by a nearly-identical structure in the early 1900s. The New Haven Railroad used a separate station 1.0 mile (1.6 km) north from 1953 until passenger service ended in 1964. The Cape Cod Central began excursion service in 1981; part of a former gas station was converted for use as a station. The station was also used by the Cape Cod and Hyannis Railroad from 1984 to 1988, and the Amtrak Cape Codder. The Hyannis Transportation Center opened in 2002, with a second platform opposite the Cape Cod Central platform. It was only used by buses until CapeFLYER service began in 2013.

The administration is headed by CEO Michael K. Lauf.The hospital has 283 beds with more than 1,700 employees and 300 physicians on staff. It has an extensive cardiac care service in a partnership with Harvard University Medical School affiliate Brigham and Women's Hospital. The hospital is also affiliated with the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. The emergency department is one of the busiest in Massachusetts, providing emergency services to more than 84,000 patients on an annual basis.

Cape Cod Maritime Museum is a maritime museum at 135 South Street in Hyannis, Massachusetts with a focus on Cape Cod's maritime history, boat building, yachting, and nautical art. The museum formerly contained the remains of the Sparrow Hawk, the earliest known surviving ship from the colonial American era, which is currently stored at Plymouth's Pilgrim Hall Museum.

Hyannis is the largest of the seven villages in the town of Barnstable, Massachusetts, in the United States. It is the commercial and transportation hub of Cape Cod and was designated an urban area at the 1990 census. Because of this, many refer to Hyannis as the "Capital of the Cape". It contains a majority of the Barnstable Town offices and two important shopping districts: the historic downtown Main Street and the Route 132 Commercial District, including Cape Cod Mall and Independence Park, headquarters of Cape Cod Potato Chips. Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis is the largest on Cape Cod. Hyannis is a major tourist destination and the primary ferry boat and general aviation link for passengers and freight to Nantucket Island. Hyannis also provides secondary passenger access to the island of Martha's Vineyard, with the primary passenger access to Martha's Vineyard being located in Woods Hole, a village in the nearby town of Falmouth. Due to its large natural harbor, Hyannis is the largest recreational boating and second largest commercial fishing port on Cape Cod, behind only Provincetown. The village is the namesake of the former United States Naval ship USS Hyannis (YTB-817).
