Stokesdale is a town in Guilford County, North Carolina, United States with small parts in the counties of Rockingham, Forsyth, and Stokes. The population was 5,924 at the 2020 census. Belews Lake is located nearby, and North Carolina Highway 68 and North Carolina Highway 65 both intersect U.S. Route 158 near the town's center.

Summerfield Historic District is a national historic district located at Summerfield, Guilford County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 33 contributing buildings and 2 contributing structures in the crossroads village of Summerfield. Notable buildings include the Henry Clay Brittain Store (Summerfield Town Hall, c. 1870), the Ogburn Store (c. 1870s), the two-story double-pile Greek Revival style Alexander Strong Martin House (c. 1840), and the Queen Anne style Henry Clay Brittain House (c. 1903). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Whitsett Historic District is a national historic district located at Whitsett, Guilford County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 38 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 5 contributing structures in the crossroads village of Whitsett. The contributing resources were built between 1894 and 1921, and developed around the Whitsett Institute, that operated from 1884 to 1919. Located in the district and separately listed is Holly Gate. Other notable buildings include the Queen Anne / Colonial Revival style "The Oaks", the John Rankin House, the Captain Dick House, the Wimbish-Tayler House, the Jefferson Lamb Houses, the Swift-Wheeler House, and the 1894 Charles T. Mason House and Dormitory.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Summerfield School Gymnasium and Community Center, also known as Summerfield Rock Gym, is a historic gymnasium building located at Summerfield, Guilford County, North Carolina. It was built in 1938-1939 as part of a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project at a rural consolidated high school. It is a 1 1/2-story, Rustic Revival-style granite rubble stone building. It has a small concrete-block rear addition dated to about 1955.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

The Battle of Summerfield was a skirmish in the area that today is Summerfield, North Carolina in present-day northern Guilford County, between Patriot forces under the command of Col. Henry Lee III and British forces of Banastre Tarleton on February 12, 1781. According to Patriot lore, twenty British dragoons were killed and four captured without loss to Lee's cavalry except a bugler they had abandoned. One month prior to the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, the armies of Col. Otho Williams and Col. Henry Lee halted at the home of Charles Bruce. While Williams and Lee were dining, farmer Isaac Wright reported that British dragoons had been seen nearby. Williams ordered Lee to investigate and Lee dispatched Captain James Armstrong with a division of his men to the area. Wright's horse was too tired to return so Lee offered the horse of his bugler boy, 14-year-old James Gillis. But Lee allowed Gillis to follow the farmer's party on the tired horse. The Patriot cavalry stumbled upon the British vanguard and raced back to warn Lee. Some British dragoons chased the fleeing Patriots and Gillis, with his tired horse, was overtaken and killed. Col. Lee ordered his men to return and rescue Gillis but they arrived too late. Lee's troops then charged and killed seven of the dragoons but British reinforcements led by Captain Cornet Miller arrived as the fighting intensified. After thirteen more British dragoons were killed, Captain Miller tried to escape but was captured by Lt. Stephen Lewis along with three of his men. Upon their return, Lee reprimanded Lewis for not carrying out his orders to kill any prisoners. Miller was brought before Lee who blamed him for the death of Gillis, the bugler Lee had allowed into danger. Lee ordered his summary execution and told Miller to write his last words to his friends. However, the British Army was seen approaching and Lee retreated to Williams camp. Captain Miller was then escorted to Major General Nathanael Greene as a prisoner of war. Today there are two memorials dedicated to James Gillis. One has been placed at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park and another at the site of his death. There is also a state historical marker in Summerfield.

Summerfield is a town in Guilford County, North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,951.The town is largely regarded as a suburb of Greensboro and as development has grown, the town has slowly transformed from a rural farming area into a bedroom community. It features a town hall, along Oak Ridge Road (aka NC 150), west of Battleground Avenue (aka US 220), as well as a shopping center east of Battleground Avenue and Auburn Road, located on the eastern portion of NC 150. Interstate 73 passes just west of the town's center, connecting with NC 150, and also connecting with US 158 in the northernmost part of the town.

Belews Lake is a reservoir in Stokes, Rockingham, Guilford and Forsyth counties of North Carolina, near the towns of Stokesdale and Pine Hall. It was created in 1973 by the Duke Energy corporation as a cooling basin for the corporation's Belews Creek Steam Station, a coal-burning power plant. There are 4 public boat ramps on the lake, with 2 being commissioned by the North Carolina Wildlife Resorces Commission (NCWRC). Piney Bluff is located on the southern part of the lake, in Forsyth County, with entrance on NC Highway 65. Pine Hall Boat Launch is the closest to the plant, located in Stokes County, with the ramp being located on the west-northwest part of the lake, with entrance from Pine Hall Rd. Carolina Marina is located in the northern part of the lake, in Rockingham County, with a fee for use. Humphreys Ridge has a boat ramp located on the eastern side of the lake, in Rockingham County. The power plant can be seen from the ramp. Cooling water was pumped back and forth between the plant and reservoir until 1986 when the corporation decided to use other methods to dispose of their coal ash waste. From 1974-1986, contaminants such as vanadium, nickel, cobalt, barium, arsenic, were introduced into the lake through the release of contaminated cooling water from the power plant back into the lake. Many scientific studies were undertaken at Belews Lake and their findings, along with those conducted at the Kesterson Reservoir, are fundamental to today's understanding of the ecological risks associated with elevated selenium concentrations in aquatic systems.

Oakhurst is a famous Queen Anne style house in Guilford County, North Carolina. Oakhurst was built by the architect, Frank P. Milburn for Martin H. Holt, who was a co-principal with his brother J. Allen Holt, of Oak Ridge Institute (which is now the Oak Ridge Military Academy). Oakhurst is an example of surviving Queen Anne style architecture in Guilford County, North Carolina. The wood for the house was heart pine from South Carolina and contained tar and creosote that could not be attacked by termites. The house was originally built without a kitchen; it was said that Mrs. Holt did not care to cook. The Holts took all their meals in the dining hall of the Oak Ridge Institute. It features a three-story tower that rises through the porch roof and is topped with an ogee roof line. The Holts were a pioneering family in cotton manufacturing in North Carolina. In 1914, Martin retired because of an illness and soon died. Thomas Early Whitaker took over as principal and owner of the school. In 1917 he became the owner of Oakhurst. T.E. Whitaker had such a wide circle of friends that it is said that more guests have been entertained here than any other home in the county. A lifelong friend said, "He had the mind of a chancellor and the ability to adjust differences between friends that was given to few men." He also served in the North Carolina House of Representatives, Session of 1901. T.E. Whitaker died unexpectedly in 1929. Oakhurst stayed in the Whitaker family until 1981. Oakhurst is a contributing property to the Oak Ridge Military Academy Historic District and is a Guilford County Historic Landmark.

Oak Ridge Military Academy (ORMA) is a college-preparatory military school in northwestern Guilford County, North Carolina. The school is the third oldest military academy in the United States and the first military boarding school to admit girls. The academy is located in the town of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Oak Ridge was created in 1852 by locals who wanted to encourage education in Guilford County. The school was closed during the Civil War for four years, reopening in 1866. From 1875 to 1914, the school was led by J. Allen Holt and Martin Holt, two professors at the academy. During that period it became one of the best in North Carolina. In 1914, leadership was transferred to Thomas E. Whittaker. The same year, a fire destroyed several buildings. In 1981, the name of the school was changed to Oak Ridge Military Academy. The campus contains 21 buildings. Notable structures include Alumni Hall and Benbow Hall. Oak Ridge offers extracurriculars that mainly focus on physical activity and military strategy. During the 2019–2020 school year, Oak Ridge had 50 students enrolled. The academy offers 11 honors and 3 AP (Advanced Placement) courses.
