Berrington and Eye railway station

Eye is a small village in the Eye, Moreton and Ashton civil parish of Herefordshire, England, and 3 miles (5 km) north from Leominster, 15 miles (24 km) north from the city and county town of Hereford, and in the catchment area of the River Lugg. Eye has a small historic church with a square tower and effigies; beside it is Eye Manor, noted for its decorated plaster ceilings, and a village hall—the Cawley Hall—named after the local Cawley family. At 1 mile (1.6 km) to the east, between the villages of Moreton and Ashton, is Berrington Hall, a Henry Holland house with Capability Brown landscape, which was built for Thomas Harley. The Welsh Marches Line runs through the closed Berrington and Eye railway station, which previously served the village. The station opened on 6 December 1853 and closed on 9 June 1958.Admiral James Vashon (1742 – 1827) was born here. In 2015 metal detectorists found a viking hoard worth £3 million in a field in the village but failed to report it as treasure.

The local pub is The Balance Inn. The parish hall, shared with the neighbouring village of Eye, is called Cawley Hall after the family who had their seat at nearby Berrington Hall.

Berrington Hall is a country house located about 3 miles (5 km) north of Leominster, Herefordshire, England. During the 20th century it was the seat of the Cawley family. It is a neoclassical country house building that Henry Holland designed in 1778-81 for Thomas Harley. It has a somewhat austere exterior, but the interiors are subtle and delicate. Berrington Hall is home to the Elmar Digby furniture collection, paintings by, among others, Thomas Luny (1759–1837), and the Charles Paget Wade costume collection from Snowshill, which can be viewed by appointment. The 'below stairs' areas and servants' quarters that are open to the public include a Victorian laundry and Georgian dairy. Berrington has been in the care of the National Trust since 1957 and is, along with its gardens, open to the public. Berrington features Capability Brown's last landscape design. A notable feature is the ha-ha wall, which was subject to extensive renovation in the late 20th century by local craftsmen. Berrington Pool, a lake and island, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Orleton is a small village and civil parish in northern Herefordshire, England, at grid reference SO493672. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 794. The village is midway between the market towns of Ludlow and Leominster, both 5 miles (8.0 km) away. The village church is dedicated to St George, and contains a Norman nave, 14th-century stained-glass windows, and a 13th-century west tower. The c.1200 door was moved and reset, The early 13th-century chancel has lancet windows. The tie-beam roof may be 14th century. The vestry is Victorian. Fittings include a c.1100 Norman font with nine disciples standing under arches, a 17th-century Jacobean pulpit, two thirteenth-century dug-out chests, a clock dating from about 1700, and a Norman carving of a dragon, later used as a clock weight. The 13th-century Bishop of Hereford, Adam Orleton, took his name from this village, may have been born here, and was a constant supporter of Roger Mortimer, the lord of the manor.

In the National Gazetteer of Britain and Ireland of 1868 it was listed as in the hundred of Wolphy.

The village church is Norman and dedicated to All Saints. The parish had a population of 124 at the time of the 2011 census.Eyton is mentioned in the Domesday Book as "Ettone" and was part of the manor of Leominster.In 1552 the Elizabethan writer and geographer Richard Hakluyt, known for his compilations of documents on contemporary voyages of exploration and for promoting the settlement of North America by the English, was born here.

Leominster nunnery was an Anglo-Saxon nunnery at Leominster, Herefordshire, England. Founded in the ninth century, the nunnery is known to have been active in the eleventh century. The exact location of the nunnery is not known, but it may have been the site later occupied by Leominster Priory, a twelfth-century foundation.
