Long Creek, South Carolina

The Long Creek Academy is a former Christian school that is located at the intersection of Academy Road and South Carolina S-37-339 near U.S. Route 76 near Long Creek, South Carolina in Oconee County. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places on November 20, 1987. It is currently used by a whitewater rafting company.

Bull Sluice is a prominent rapid on the Chattooga River on the Georgia and South Carolina border in the United States which was featured in the film Deliverance. Its convenient location off of the US76 bridge makes it a popular destination for whitewater rafters and kayakers. The short hike to the rapid also makes it attractive to spectators. The Bull Sluice area is also a popular swimming hole, and is visited by dozens of swimmers on summer weekends. Swimmers can jump into the rapid, battle the current, or simply relax in the slower water on the S.C. side. Even small children regularly visit to play in the calm water at the edges. There is also a sandy beach a few hundred feet below the rapid. A sandy beach also appears just below Bull Sluice during low water. Bull Sluice is a benchmark Class IV+ rapid as rated by American Whitewater during normal flow of 1.8 to 2.4 feet. It becomes easier at lower water and significantly more difficult at higher water. Bull Sluice is the largest and final named rapid of Section 3 of the Chattooga River. Since it is one of the more accessible rapids on the river, many boaters who run the narrower and more dangerous Section 4 will first run Bull Sluice before continuing downstream, making the rapid the de facto start of the final section of the river. A small cave exists under the main flow of the water. Swimmers will often enter the cave during warmer weather to watch boaters run the rapid above them.

Lake Tugalo is a 597-acre (2.42 km2) reservoir with 18 miles (29 km) of shoreline located in the northeastern Georgia in Habersham and Rabun counties, but also lies partially in Oconee County, South Carolina. It is the fifth lake in a six-lake series created by hydroelectric dams operated by Georgia Power that follows the original course of the Tallulah River. The series starts upstream on the Tallulah River with Lake Burton followed by Lake Seed, Lake Rabun, Lake Tallulah Falls and Lake Tugalo, ending with Lake Yonah. The western arm of Lake Tugalo is filled by the Tallulah River and the eastern arm is filled by the Chattooga River. Georgia Power considers the lake full at a surface elevation of 891.5 feet (271.7 m). Lake Tugalo began filling in 1923 with the completion of the Tugalo Dam, a gravity concrete and masonry dam. The dam is 155 feet (47 m) high and has a span of 740 feet (230 m). The Tugalo Hydroelectric Plant has a generation capacity of 45 megawatts.

Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel in Oconee County, South Carolina is an incomplete railroad tunnel for the Blue Ridge Railroad of South Carolina in Sumter National Forest. The tunnel, along with nearby Issaqueena Falls, are now a Walhalla city park. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

Issaqueena Falls, near Walhalla, South Carolina, is a 100 ft (30 m) high cascade waterfall in the Oconee District of the Sumter National Forest.The falls are named for a legendary Cherokee girl who is said to have leaped from the top of the falls with her lover, either an Oconee brave, a white trader named Allan Francis, or a white silversmith named David Francis. In the story, Issaqueena and her lover either die together or they land on a ledge out of sight of hostile tribesmen and eventually live happily ever after.The waterfall is close to another notable local landmark, Stumphouse Tunnel, and a park provides access to both.

The Jarrett-Hayes House, also known as Liberty Lodge, in Stephens County, Georgia near Toccoa, is an I-house built around 1848. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.It is a two-story plantation house built by slave labor, including for the making, on the property, of bricks used in its construction.It is located on the northeastern side of County Route 3, about 2 miles east of its junction with Georgia State Route 184.

Lakemont is an unincorporated community in Rabun County, Georgia, United States, located in a mountainous area between U.S. Route 23/441 and Lake Rabun. Lakemont has a post office with ZIP code 30552.A post office named Lakemont was established in 1914. The community was so named on account of its elevated location near Lake Rabun.

Tugaloo (Dugiluyi (ᏚᎩᎷᏱ)) was a Cherokee town located on the Tugaloo River, at the mouth of Toccoa Creek. It was south of Toccoa and Travelers Rest State Historic Site in present-day Stephens County, Georgia. Cultures of ancient indigenous peoples had occupied this area, and those of the South Appalachian Mississippian culture built a platform mound and village here. It was an administrative and ceremonial center for them. About six miles upriver was Estatoe, another historic Cherokee town in this area. (Other historic towns named Estatoe were identified in both western South Carolina and North Carolina.) Both the historic and prehistoric sites of Estatoe and Tugaloo were inundated by the creation of Lake Hartwell above Hartwell Dam.
