Place Ambroise-Courtois is a square in the neighborhood of Monplaisir in the 8th arrondissement of Lyon. It was named after Ambroise Courtois, a city councillor, on 30 October 1944, months after Courtois was assassinated by the Milice française. It had been previously named Place de Monplaisir. The square is bordered by Avenue des Frères-Lumière to the south and Cours Albert-Thomas to the north.

Monplaisir is a historical district (quarter) of Lyon, France, now situated in the 8th arrondissement of Lyon. It is centered on the Ambroise Courtois Square, formerly the Monplaisir Square.In the southeast of the 8th arrondissement there is the Monplaisir-la-Plaine quarter, or simply La-Plaine. The Institut Lumière (pronounced [ɛ̃s.ti.ty ly.mjɛːʁ]; "Lumière Institute") is a French organisation, based in Lyon, for the promotion and preservation of aspects of French film making. The Institut Lumière is a museum that honours the contribution to filmmaking by Auguste and Louis Lumière - inventors of the cinématographe and fathers of the cinema. It was founded in 1982 by Bernard Chardère and Maurice Trarieux-Lumière, the grandson of Louis Lumière. Bertrand Tavernier was its president and Thierry Frémaux is its director. The museum is located within the house of the Lumière family, in the Monplaisir quarter of Lyon. The film La Sortie de l'usine Lumière à Lyon, one of the earliest motion pictures ever made, was shot in the immediate vicinity of the Institut. The rehabilitation of the former Lumière factories was confided to the architect Pierre Colboc and the Chief architect of historic monuments Didier Repellin, associated with the agency dUCKS Scéno for the scenography of the cinema and the outer spaces.

Workers Leaving The Lumière Factory in Lyon (French: La Sortie de l'Usine Lumière à Lyon), also known as Employees Leaving the Lumière Factory and Exiting the Factory, is an 1895 French short black-and-white silent documentary film directed and produced by Louis Lumière. It is often referred to as the first real motion picture ever made, although Louis Le Prince's 1888 Roundhay Garden Scene pre-dated it by six and a half years.

La Martinière Lyon is the La Martinière College branch in Lyon, France. Lyon hosts three La Martinière colleges, which were all created by Claude Martin: La Martinière Monplaisir, La Martinière Duchère, and La Martinière Terreaux. The Lumière brothers, two of the first filmmakers, attended La Martinière.

Le Bachut is a quarter in the 8th arrondissement of Lyon. It is bisected the avenue Berthelot and rue Marius Berliet. Served by the tram, it is connected to the Presqu'île, to the Hôpital Édouard-Herriot and the university campus of Bron. In May 2007, the library of Bachut called Médiathèque Marguerite Duras was inaugurated, at the Place du 11 November 1918. The Maison de la danse of Lyon is in the quarter.

Laënnec is a quarter of the 8th arrondissement of Lyon, in France. It is served by the eponymous station of the Line D of the Lyon Metro, which was opened on 11 December 1992 and had 132,316 passengers per month in 2006. Notable monuments of the quarter are the Grand Mosque of Lyon, located in the Boulevard Pinel, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry and the Maison des jeunes et de la culture. The quarter is named after French physician and medical writer René Laennec.

Fort Montluc, also known as Fort de Villeurbanne, is a fort located in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon. The fort was built in 1831 as part of the Ceintures de Lyon, which were a series of fortifications surrounding Lyon. It is currently used as a metropolitan police station.

The Grande mosquée de Lyon ("Great Mosque of Lyon"), France's sixth largest mosque, was officially inaugurated on 30 September 1994. The Great Mosque of Lyon also has an association of halal certification called ARGML. This is the most reliable association of halal certification in France. It is located at 146 Boulevard Pinel, 5 km east of Presqu'île in Lyon. The Mosque includes cultural facilities, a library and a school.

Montluc prison (French pronunciation: ​[mɔ̃lyk]) is a former prison located on rue Jeanne Hachette in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon, France. It was known for being an internment, torture and killing place by the Gestapo during the occupation of France by the Nazis.

The Jean Moulin University Lyon 3 (French: Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3), also referred to as Lyon 3, is one of the three public universities of Lyon, France. It is named after the French Resistance fighter Jean Moulin and specialises in Law, Politics, Philosophy, Management and languages. It is under the purview of the Academy of Lyon. A total of 27,000 students study there for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The university is a member of the University of Lyon, the Coimbra Group and the European University Association (EUA).
