Cottam railway station

Cottam is a village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire 8 miles east of Retford within the Bassetlaw district. The name is pronounced 'Cotum' locally. The population of the civil parish in the 2011 Census was given as 108, this fell to 97 in 2021. To the south of the village is Cottam Power Station with 8 cooling towers, built between 1964 and 1968. Cottam is also close to Sundown Adventureland.

Cottam power station is a decommissioned coal-fired power station. The site extends over 620 acres (250 ha) of mainly arable land and is situated at the eastern edge of Nottinghamshire on the west bank of the River Trent at Cottam near Retford. The larger coal-fired station, was decommissioned by EDF Energy in 2019 in line with the UK's goal to meet its zero-coal power generation by 2025. The smaller in-use station is Cottam Development Centre, a combined cycle gas turbine plant commissioned in 1999, with a generating capacity of 440 MW. This plant is owned by Uniper. The site is one of a number of power stations located along the Trent valley. The West Burton power stations are 3.5 miles (5.6 km) downstream and Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station is 52 miles (84 km) upstream. The decommissioned High Marnham Power Station was 6 miles (9.7 km) upstream. Under the Central Electricity Generating Board in 1981/82 Cottam power station was awarded the Christopher Hinton trophy in recognition of good housekeeping the award was presented by junior Energy Minister David Mellor. After electricity privatisation in 1990, ownership moved to Powergen. In October 2000, the plant was sold to London Energy, who are part of EDF Energy, for £398 million. In January 2019, EDF Energy announced that the coal station was due to cease generation in September 2019 after more than 50 years of operation. The station closed as planned on 30 September 2019. Demolition of Cottam Power Station began in 2021, with Brown and Mason carrying out the works.

Littleborough is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Sturton le Steeple, in the Bassetlaw district, in the county of Nottinghamshire, England. It is 8 miles (13 km) east of Retford. Littleborough is the site of the Roman town of Segelocum or Agelocum, on the west bank of the River Trent where the road linking Lincoln and Doncaster bridged or forded the river. In 1931 the parish had a population of 32. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Sturton le Steeple.The Church of England parish church of St Nicholas is Norman, and contains some Roman tiles in its stonework.

Church Laneham is a hamlet in Nottinghamshire, England. It is located 9 miles east of Retford, on the west bank of the tidal section of the River Trent. The hamlet is within the Laneham civil parish, and is ½ mile to the east of Laneham. It was an estate village of the Bishop of York, and the location of a ferry crossing of the river, commemorated by the name of the public house The Ferry Boat Inn which continues to operate opposite the lane which used to be the entrance to the ferry port. It is in the Tuxford and Trent ward of Bassetlaw Council.

Torksey Priory was a priory in Lincolnshire, England. It was an Augustinian house and was dedicated to St Leonard. It is thought that the priory was founded in the time of King Henry II, possibly by the king himself. It had the three parish churches in Torksey annexed to it - All Saints, St Peter, St Mary.

Torksey Castle is an Elizabethan manor house located in the village of Torksey on the east bank of the River Trent in Lincolnshire, England. It is 12 miles northwest of Lincoln on the A156 road. Seven miles to the north is Gainsborough Old Hall and 10 miles southeast is Lincoln Castle. It is a 16th-century Tudor stone-built fortified manor house founded by the Jermyn family of Suffolk. It is a Grade-I listed building and a scheduled ancient monument but the building is on the Heritage at Risk Register. The site is private, with no public access and is only visible from the A156 road and a public footpath, on the west bank of the River Trent.

Rampton and Woodbeck is a civil parish in the Bassetlaw district, within the county of Nottinghamshire, England. The overall area had a population of 1,139 at the 2011 census. The parish lies in the north east of the county. It is 125 miles north west of London, 27 miles north east of the city of Nottingham, and 5 miles south east of the town of Retford. The parish rests alongside the county border with Lincolnshire. It is the site of Rampton Secure Hospital, which is one of only three high security psychiatric hospitals in England.

It is situated on the A156 road, 7 miles (11 km) south of Gainsborough and 9 miles (14 km) north-west of Lincoln, and on the eastern bank of the tidal River Trent, which here forms the boundary with Nottinghamshire.It is notable historically as the site of a Roman canal, a major Viking camp, the late medieval Torksey Castle and the Torksey Viaduct.

Rampton is a village in the civil parish of Rampton and Woodbeck, about 6 miles (10 km) east of Retford in the Bassetlaw district, in the county of Nottinghamshire, England. The parish is long and thin, extending about 7 miles (11 km) east–west but only about 1 mile (1.6 km) north–south. Its eastern boundary is the River Trent, which here also forms the county boundary with Lincolnshire. The parish is best known for Rampton Secure Hospital, which is at the hamlet of Woodbeck about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of Rampton village. The parish was renamed from Rampton to Rampton and Woodbeck on the 1st of April 2018.The 2011 Census recorded the parish population as 1,139.
