Torksey railway station

Brampton is a hamlet and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately 9 miles (14 km) north-west from the city and county town of Lincoln and less than 1 mile (1.6 km) north-east from Torksey and Torksey Castle.

Torksey Priory was a priory in Lincolnshire, England. It was an Augustinian house and was dedicated to St Leonard. It is thought that the priory was founded in the time of King Henry II, possibly by the king himself. It had the three parish churches in Torksey annexed to it - All Saints, St Peter, St Mary.

Torksey Castle is an Elizabethan manor house located in the village of Torksey on the east bank of the River Trent in Lincolnshire, England. It is 12 miles northwest of Lincoln on the A156 road. Seven miles to the north is Gainsborough Old Hall and 10 miles southeast is Lincoln Castle. It is a 16th-century Tudor stone-built fortified manor house founded by the Jermyn family of Suffolk. It is a Grade-I listed building and a scheduled ancient monument but the building is on the Heritage at Risk Register. The site is private, with no public access and is only visible from the A156 road and a public footpath, on the west bank of the River Trent.

Torksey is a small village in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 875. It is situated on the A156 road, 7 miles (11 km) south of Gainsborough and 9 miles (14 km) north-west of Lincoln, and on the eastern bank of the tidal River Trent, which here forms the boundary with Nottinghamshire.It is notable historically as the site of a Roman canal, a major Viking camp, the late medieval Torksey Castle and the Torksey Viaduct.

Fenton is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 9 mi (14 km) north-west of Lincoln and 4 miles (6.4 km) west from Saxilby. The population of the civil parish was 297 at the 2001 census, increasing to 353 at the 2011 census.Fenton is a centre for the breeding of a local cattle variety, the Lincoln Reds. It is also a centre for fishing, being 1 mile (1.6 km) to the east the River Trent.The ecclesiastical parish is Kettlethorpe with Fenton, part of the Saxilby Group of the Deanery of Corringham. The parish church is in the smaller village of Kettlethorpe 0.5 miles (0.8 km) to the south. The 2014 incumbent is Rev Canon Rhys Prosser.The village public house is the Carpenters Arms.

Marton is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated at the junction between the A156 and the A1500. It is 5 miles (8 km) south of Gainsborough, and 11 miles (18 km) north-west of Lincoln. The population of the civil parish (including Gate Burton) was 747 at the 2011 census. The parish borders Brampton, Gate Burton, Sturton by Stow, North Leverton with Habblesthorpe, Cottam, Sturton-le-Steeple and Willingham.

Kettlethorpe is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 10 miles (16 km) west of Lincoln. The villages of Drinsey Nook and Laughterton lie within Kettlethorpe parish. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 census was 426.

Stow Park railway station was a railway station that served the villages of Marton and Stow in Lincolnshire, England on the line between Lincoln and Doncaster. It closed in 1961. The station and nearby signal box were listed in 1985.

Kettlethorpe Hall is a Victorian house in Kettlethorpe, Lincolnshire, noted for its connection to Katherine Swynford, Duchess of Lancaster. It encloses fragments of the former manor house including the medieval gatehouse, within the surviving moat. It is a Grade II listed building.Sir Hugh Swynford (died in 1371) married Katherine Roet, whose sister Philippa is believed to have been the wife of Geoffrey Chaucer. Lady Katherine became governess to the children of John of Gaunt, the third surviving son of Edward III, and also Gaunt's mistress. Their four children, the Beauforts, were eventually legitimised when Gaunt took Lady Katherine as his third wife, in 1396. She at one time lived at Kettlethorpe Hall. The present house was built in the early 1700s for Charles Hall, MP, whose grandfather had acquired the estate by marriage. He died without issue and bequeathed Kettlethorpe to his half-brother's son, Charles Amcotts, MP of Harrington Hall. He in turn left it to his sister Anna-Maria, who had married Sir Wharton Emerson, who changed his name to Amcotts. After passing by marriage to Sir William Amcotts-Ingilby it was inherited by Weston Cracroft Amcotts, MP, who carried out extensive remodelling of the house in 1863. It then further passed down in the family to Sir Weston Cracroft-Amcotts, who sold it in 1961. The house contains walls, some carved heads and a small oak-panelled room dating from the 17th century. In the old tower is an early 18th-century panelled dining room with a late 18th-century marble fireplace. The drawing room's stucco ceiling is 18th-century, and the library and front hall are Victorian.The moat and its cleaning was one of the most widely used examples of MPs' expenses claims scandal during 2009. This contributed to the retirement of its owner, Douglas Hogg, from the House of Commons and the granting to him of a life peerage allowing him to sit in the House of Lords.

Gate Burton (sometimes called Burton Gate), is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 4 miles (6.4 km) south from the town of Gainsborough. The population is listed under the civil parish of Marton. There are earthworks which are the remains of the medieval village. There were two manors at Gate Burton at the time of the Domesday Book which were held in 1086 by Count Alan of Brittany. By the 13th century Gate Burton was held by the Trehampton family along with their manor of Lea, and both Lea and Gate Burton belonged to Lord Burgh of Gainsborough in the 16th century. It was sold around 1739 to the Hutton family, and William Huttons house of 1774-80 forms the core of the present Gate Burton Hall.The present Saint Helen's Church is at least the third on the site. In 1741 the chancel of the first St Helens church was in ruins and in 1784 a petition was put forward to demolish and rebuild the whole church. The replacement was built at the Hutton family's expense prior to 1793. It was replaced again by the existing limestone building of 1866, which is a Grade II listed building. Gate Burton Hall was built around 1770–84, for the Hutton family, with later additions and alterations. It is now two residences, and is Grade II* listed. In the grounds of Gate Burton Hall the temple folly in red brick and limestone, known as Burton Chateau, was built earlier in 1747 by James Paine, and it too is Grade II* listed. It is a Landmark Trust property that is available for holiday lets.

The A156 is an 11 miles (18 km) long road that runs from the A57 near Saxilby and heads north to Gainsborough. The road runs entirely within Lincolnshire right next to the border with Nottinghamshire. It is a single carriageway for its entire length apart from one small stretch at Torksey Lock where the A1133 joins from Newark-on-Trent.

Cottam railway station was a station in Cottam, Nottinghamshire, England which is now closed. Part of the route on which the station was located remained in use for freight trains serving Cottam power stations, with the final train running in September 2019. The line is now officially closed, and hasn't been used since then. The line through to Saxilby and Lincoln via Torksey closed to passengers in November 1959.
