Smeeth railway station

Smeeth is a mostly agricultural land use village and civil parish, centred 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Ashford in the Ashford Borough of Kent, England.

Scot's Hall (or Scott's Hall) was a country house in Smeeth, between Ashford and Folkestone in southeast England. It was the property of a gentry family, the Scotts. The first known resident was Sir John Scott (born 1436), who married Caroline Carter.From the beginning of the fourteenth century to the end of the eighteenth century, the Scotts, who were descendants of the Balliols, were influential in Kent, also owning Chilham Castle. Scott's Hall was the centre of the dynasty and there was a time when one could ride from Scot's Hall to London without leaving Scott Property, a journey of over fifty miles. During the reign of Elizabeth I, it was described as one of the most splendid houses in Kent. Samuel Pepys was a regular visitor in the seventeenth century: the contemporary owner, Sir Thomas Scott, married Caroline Carteret, daughter of Pepys' friend and colleague, Sir George Carteret. With his keen nose for gossip, Pepys noted that Thomas' right to inherit the estate was debatable: his parents were separated, and his father for a time refused to acknowledge any of his wife's children, although he ultimately did acknowledge Thomas as his son.

Aldington is a village and civil parish in the Ashford District of Kent, England. The village centre is eight miles (12 km) south-east of the town of Ashford. As with the village centre, set on a steep escarpment above agricultural Romney Marsh and the upper Stour is Aldington Knoll, which was used as a Roman burial barrow and later beacon, it has a panorama towards the English Channel and of low land such as Dungeness. At the 2021 Census the population included Bonnington.

Hatch Park is a 71.8-hectare (177-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Ashford in Kent. It is listed by Historic England on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.This site has species-rich acidic grassland which is the remnant of a larger deer park, and is still managed by a herd of deer. There are also ancient pollard woods which are the richest for epiphytic lichens in the county. Several ponds have adjacent areas of marsh.The site is private land which is not open to the public.

Poulton Wood is a 10.2-hectare (25-acre) Local Nature Reserve in Aldington, south-east of Ashford in Kent. It is owned and managed by Canterbury Oast Trust.This is a woodland of coppiced oak, hornbeam and ash, and spring flowers include bluebells. It is managed as a conservation project providing training in subjects such as coppice management and woodcrafts.There is access from Forge Hill.

Brabourne Lees is a village in the civil parish of Brabourne, within the Ashford borough of Kent, England. The village (centre) is just under 5 miles (8 km) east of Ashford town centre itself geographically. By road this is a journey of about 6 miles (10 km). In 2021 it had a population of 1480.The village was built on former pasture land ("lees") at the foot of the North Downs. Brabourne Baptist Church is at the junction of Calland and Plain Road; there is also a Zion Strict Baptist Chapel to the northeast of the village, on Canterbury Road.

Lilyvale is a hamlet in the English county of Kent. It is located north of the A20 road, south east of the town of Ashford, near the village of Smeeth.

Goldenhurst Farm (now Goldenhurst Manor and The Old House, Goldenhurst) is a country house of 17th-century origins in the village of Aldington, Kent, England. From 1926 to 1956, it was the country home of Noël Coward. It is a Grade II listed building.

Bonnington is a dispersed village and civil parish on the northern edge of the Romney Marsh in Ashford District of Kent, England. The village is located eight miles (13 km) to the south of the town of Ashford on the B2067 (Hamstreet to Hythe road). Bonnington has under 100 inhabitants and has historic connections with smuggling. The parish used to boast its own school at the T-junction with the former B2069, and a public house (The Oak) located nearly two miles southeast of the village. The parish church, dedicated to St Rumwold, the child saint, is about half a mile to the south of the hamlet, on the Royal Military Canal. The parish council is now linked with the larger village of Aldington (where the population is now included) which is where the nearest shops can be found.

Sellindge is a civil parish and village on the A20 road between Ashford and Folkestone in Kent, South East England. Sellindge is part of North Downs West Ward of Folkestone and Hythe District Council but part of the Elham ward of Kent County Council. Since 1971 the yearly Sellindge Steam Festival or Folkestone & Ashford Military Show has been held in the village. In 2008 and 2009 the Sellindge Music Festival was held in the village.The static inverter plant of HVDC Cross-Channel lies south of the motorway on Church Lane. Plans exist for a 3,000 capacity lorry park and an anaerobic digestion plant. A new town called Otterpool is planned nearby.

St Rumwold's Church is an active parish church in the parish of Bonnington, Kent, England. It is a Grade I listed building.
