Newby and Scalby

St Laurence's Church is the parish church of Scalby, North Yorkshire, a village in England. The oldest surviving parts of the church date from about 1180, and include the south nave arcade and the chancel arch. The chancel was rebuilt early in the 13th century, and the north wall of the nave was rebuilt in the 15th century. The tower was added, probably in 1683. The church was extended and restored from 1859 to 1860, the work including the rebuilding of the south wall and addition of a porch. It was grade II* listed in 1985. The church is built of sandstone with a stone flag roof, and consists of a nave, a south aisle, a south porch, a chancel, and a west tower. The tower has two stages, diagonal buttresses, a stair tower, a round-headed south window, four-light bell openings with semicircular hood moulds, a string course, a west clock face, and an embattled parapet. Inside, there is a stone slab carved with a cross which may be 13th century, 18th-century wall monuments, and a mediaeval font.

Scalby, a village on the north edge of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England, is part of the civil parish of Newby and Scalby. From 1902 to 1974, Scalby was an urban district in the North Riding of Yorkshire. Scalby is 2.5 miles (4 km) north of Scarborough, and is separated from the town's suburbs by the Scalby Beck, which flows to the North Sea at Scalby Mills. Scalby is a village which is bisected by the A171 Scarborough to Whitby road. The older part of the village is west of the main crossroads and is focused around a small but busy High Street.

The Sea Cut (Scalby Beck) is a small river that enters the North Sea at Scalby Mills, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. The beck is fed from local streams in Scalby, Newby and Burniston and other watercourses draining off the nearby hills. It is also a bypass channel for the upper reaches of the River Derwent when it is under flood conditions.

Scalby railway station was a railway station on the Scarborough & Whitby Railway.

Raincliffe School was a comprehensive secondary school, with Business and Enterprise College status, in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. On 31 August 2012, Raincliffe School formally closed, entering a federation with nearby Graham School.For many years the school held an annual fell run, called the Muddy Rut, in which the entire student roll would race through Raincliffe Woods. On 23 June 2017, the Raincliffe school site (Graham lower school) closed due to falling pupil numbers.

Scarborough TEC, (formerly known as Yorkshire Coast College, Scarborough Technical College, Scarborough Technical Institute, and Scarborough School of Art) is a further education college located on Filey Road Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. It is a constituent college of the Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education.Yorkshire Coast College was originally an independently controlled institution, but due to consistently poor results and long-term financial difficulties was taken over by the Grimsby Institute in January 2010.College courses for students from Scarborough and the surrounding area include NVQs, GCSEs, BTECs, Apprenticeships and Access courses, and some higher education courses in conjunction with the University of Hull.In November 2016, the name was changed from Yorkshire Coast College to Scarborough TEC, with the TEC standing for Training, Education, Careers.

Graham School is a coeducational secondary school in the west of Scarborough in North Yorkshire, England. It is situated to the west of the town within 22 acres (8.9 ha) of grounds. The school is on Woodlands Drive. The lower site on Lady Edith's Drive closed on 23rd June 2017. Graham School provides for pupils aged 11 to 16 (year 7 to year 11)

Burniston is a village and civil parish in the Scarborough borough of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated about four miles north of Scarborough itself, on the A171 road. According to the 2011 UK census Burniston parish had a population of 1,523, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 1,389. With all the new houses at River Meadows, the population is now roughly 1,500. The parish council is Burniston Parish Council.

St Joseph's Church is a Catholic church in Newby, a village near Scarborough, North Yorkshire, in England. Local Catholics purchased a site in Newby in 1930, with the intention of building a church. Progress was slow, partly due to World War II, and in 1949 a former British Army building was erected, to serve as a mass centre. Between 1958 and 1960, a church was built on the site, to a design by Francis Johnson. The building cost about £35,000 and on completion, it was given its own parish. It was extended in 1970, with the addition of a further chapel, while in 1993 the baptistery was converted into a chapel of remembrance. The building was grade II listed in 2007. Historic England praises the west front, its design inspired by the work of Enrico Del Debbio and Grundtvig's Church in Copenhagen. The church is built of brown brick with stone dressings, statues in Doulting stone, and a pantile roof. It consists of a nave, an organ loft, and a chancel flanked by chapels and vestries. At the west end are projecting staircase towers containing niches with statues, square windows in the returns, and surmounted by obelisks. The central doorway has a segmental arch, it is flanked by a blind arcaded screens, and above it is a Calvary, a round window, and a bellcote with a cross. The nave windows are mullioned and transomed, with three lights and arched heads. Inside, the original decoration, furnishing and fittings survive, and the windows have handmade glass, some of which is tinted.
