The Church of St Margaret of Antioch at Darenth, Kent, is a church with Norman origins thought to be the third oldest in Kent and the sixth oldest in the United Kingdom. It is a Grade I listed building.The chancel and nave are late 10th century or early 11th century. The sanctuary is early 12th century. The church was restored twice in the 19th century, first by William Burges in 1866-68 and then by Ewan Christian in 1888. Newman describes the church as "important, but visually rather charmless."

Horton Kirby Boys Home also known as Home for Little Boys was a private railway station opened in 1870 by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway to serve "Home for Little Boys", a cottage homes village in Horton Kirby, which was opened in 1867. It was sited between Farningham Road and Longfield stations on the Chatham Main Line. It only had a 'down' platform (direction Longfield) and there was no 'up' platform. The station closed by 1930 and was demolished in 1939.

The parish is located in the River Darent valley between Sevenoaks town and Dartford: it consists of the two villages of Horton Kirby and South Darenth. On 1 April 1979 the parish was renamed from "Horton Kirby" to "Horton Kirby & South Darenth".Horton Kirby Paper Mills in South Darenth were founded by Henry Hall at the beginning of the 19th century. Since June 2003, the mills have ceased processing paper.

Darenth Wood is a 122.9-hectare (304-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Dartford in Kent.This ancient semi-natural wood has many rare invertebrates, including thirty-two which are nationally scarce and two which are nationally rare: these are beetles which live in dead and dying oak timber, Grilis pannonicus and Platypus cylindricus.The wood is crossed by roads and footpaths.
