Bristol South (UK Parliament constituency)

Filwood is a council ward of the city of Bristol in the United Kingdom. It lies in the south of the city and covers the suburbs of Filwood Park, Lower Knowle and Inns Court.

Knowle West is a neighbourhood situated on a low plateau in the south of Bristol, England, about 2 miles (3 km) from the centre of the city. Historically in Somerset, most of the area is coterminous with the Filwood ward of Bristol City Council, although a small part of the estate lies within Knowle ward to the east. To the west are Bishopsworth and Hartcliffe. To the north are Bedminster and Windmill Hill and to the south Whitchurch Park and Hengrove. In 2008 the population was estimated to be 11,787. The area is approximately 1.26 square miles (3.3 km2). There is evidence of late Iron Age and Roman settlements in the area. At the time of the Domesday Book, Knowle was a rural area assessed at a taxable value of two geld units. Knowle West remained rural in character until the 1930s, when a council housing estate was developed to provide homes for people displaced by slum clearance in the centre of the city. Famous former residents include the musician Tricky, the England rugby player Ellis Genge, the boxer Dixie Brown and late 1950s rock and roll band the Eagles. There are two schools and two churches in Knowle West, as well as a number of open spaces, community centre,no clubs and no shopping facilities at Filwood Broadway except a news agent, a cafe and a chemist. Community organisations include the Knowle West Media Centre, the Residents' Planning Group and the Knowle West Health Association. There are no major employers in Knowle West and very little local enterprises it has no infrastructure but have larger businesses on nearby trading estates. The closure of the Imperial Tobacco factory at nearby Hartcliffe in 1990 caused a large number of job losses. Just under a third of the residents are classed as economically inactive and the area is the most economically deprived in Bristol.

Merrywood Grammar School was a grammar school in Knowle, Bristol. It opened in 1937 and closed in 1995. Its site now houses Knowle West Health Park.

St John's Lane was a football ground in Bristol, England. It was the home ground of Bristol City between 1894 and 1904.

Victoria Park is a park and open space near Bedminster, Bristol, on Windmill hill. It lies to the east of Bedminster railway station and south of the Bristol to Exeter line.The park features tennis courts, a bowling green, a skate park, a table-tennis table, a 1.7-kilometre (1.1 mi) marked route for joggers, various exercise stations and a children's play area.

The Holy Cross Inns Court Vicarage (grid reference ST587691) is in the Knowle West area of Bristol, England. It was built in the 15th century. The surviving fragment, a stair turret, comes from what was once a much larger house, which was probably built for the lawyer Sir John Innys, who died in 1439. The 15th century remains are designated by Historic England as a grade II* listed building. The stair turret is on the Buildings at Risk Register and described as being in fair condition, suffering slow decay.

Windmill Hill is situated in the south of the city of Bristol and is often referred to as being part of Bedminster. It is a predominantly residential location, and became popular in the 1990s and 2000s with students, artists and environmentalists, often sharing rented accommodation. The area has mainly Victorian terraced houses though there are also two residential tower blocks Polden and Holroyd House. In the early years of the 21st century the area started undergoing gentrification which has increased house prices in the area. Windmill Hill remains a creative and community driven neighbourhood. Windmill Hill's Community Centre was opened in the 1970s in the former church hall of St Michael and All Angels church.Windmill Hill has given its name to a council ward, which includes Totterdown and the southern part of Bedminster.Windmill Hill is separated from the rest of Bedminster by a railway line (and Bedminster railway station) and industrial estates as well as the Windmill Hill City Farm. The River Malago runs through the western edge of Windmill Hill ward, and Victoria Park is in the centre of the ward.

Hengrove is a suburb and council ward of Bristol, England, situated between Whitchurch, Knowle and Bishopsworth, running along both dual carriageways, Wells Road (A37) and Airport Road (A4174). The area of Knowle it adjoins is known as Knowle West. The residential parts of Hengrove consist mainly of working to middle class terrace houses. There are also infant, primary and secondary schools in the area. It is served by buses and, since 2019, MetroBus rapid transit services. Hengrove holds the long-disused Whitchurch Airport, which has mostly been redeveloped with a hospital and leisure facilities now situated on parts of the former airfield.

The Bristol Jamia Mosque is a mosque in the Totterdown area of Bristol. It was the first mosque in Bristol and is currently the largest in the south west of England. The building was formerly a disused church that was bought and converted into a mosque in 1968. It has since been embellished with a dome and minaret.

Hengrove Park Leisure Centre is a leisure centre in Hengrove, Bristol, UK. The project was funded through a private finance initiative (PFI) and cost £35 million. It was built on part of the site of Whitchurch Airport. The centre is operated by Parkwood Leisure for Bristol City Council.

Bedminster railway station is on the Bristol to Exeter line and serves the districts of Bedminster and Windmill Hill in Bristol, south-west England. It is 0.9 miles (1.4 km) to the west of Bristol Temple Meads, and 119 miles (192 km) from London Paddington. Its three letter station code is BMT. It was opened in 1871 by the Bristol and Exeter Railway, was resited slightly further to the west in 1884 and was rebuilt in 1932. The station, which has three through-lines and two island platforms, but minimal facilities, is managed by Great Western Railway who operates all train services that serve the station, mainly an hourly service between Bristol Parkway and Weston-super-Mare. The level of service is proposed to be increased by two trains per hour between Portishead and Bristol when the Portishead Branch Line reopens.
