East Ham (UK Parliament constituency)

St Mary Magdalene's Church, East Ham is a parish church in East Ham, east London, dedicated to St Mary Magdalene. Its nave, chancel and apse date to the first half of the 12th century and the tower probably to the early 13th century but partly rebuilt in the 16th century - it is claimed to be the oldest parish church still in weekly use in Greater London and is listed at Grade I.A recess containing a piscina was cut into the nave's south wall beside the chancel for a nave altar in the 13th century, faint traces of wall paintings from that century also survive on the apse. The roofs were altered in the early 17th century and in 1639 Sir Richard Heigham gave the present white marble font. A 17th century memorial to an Edmond Nevill also survived - he is said to have lived locally at Green Street House and he laid claim to the attainted title of Earl of Westmoreland. Other monuments to Giles Breame and William Heigham survive, whilst William Stukeley is said to have selected the church's churchyard in his lifetime - he is buried there without a monument. Though box pews and a triple decker pulpit were added (only to be replaced in the 1890s), the 18th century otherwise saw few alterations. A west gallery for children was added in 1820 and the south porch converted into a vestry ten years later, replaced by a yellow-brick west porch opening into the tower. In 1883 it opened the mission church that became St Michael and All Angels Church, Beckton Road. In 1896 the west gallery was removed and further restorations completed. In 1908 the south porch stopped being a vestry after a new level was created in the tower for a vestry. A complete restoration in 1931 removed the apse and chancel ceilings, opened out the rood-loft stair and stripped the external plaster from the tower. The London Blitz destroyed the chancel roof and the whole church's stained glass in 1941, along with other damage, but repairs were immediate and a permanent restoration of the nave was complete by the war's end, followed by a more comprehensive restorations in 1950 and 1965–1966. It now forms part of the East Ham Team Parish (also known as the Parish of the Holy Trinity) alongside St Edmund's, St Bartholomew's and St Alban's.

East Ham is a district of the London Borough of Newham, England, 8 miles (12.8 km) east of Charing Cross. East Ham is identified in the London Plan as a Major Centre. The population is 76,186. It was originally part of the hundred of Becontree, and part of the historic county of Essex. Since 1965, East Ham has been part of the London Borough of Newham, a local government district of Greater London.

Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre, also known as The NCS, is a free school sixth form college located in East Ham, London, England. Administered by the City of London Academies Trust, it was opened in 2014. The college is coeducational and is affiliated with University College London who is a strategic partner. It is rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted. It has an ALPS 1 score for value added.

Newham College is a large general further education college in the London Borough of Newham, England, established in 1985. The college's main site is in East Ham, with a further site in Stratford and six further local neighbourhood learning centres; the college also runs the Fashion and Textile Museum in Central London. As of 2018 there are over 23,000 enrolled students at the college. At one point it was one of the largest colleges of further education in England.

Newham Town Hall, formerly East Ham Town Hall, is a municipal building in Barking Road, East Ham, London. The town hall, which is the headquarters of Newham London Borough Council, is a Grade II* listed building.

East Ham was a local government district in the far south west of Essex from 1878 to 1965. It extended from Wanstead Flats in the north to the River Thames in the south and from Green Street in the west to Barking Creek in the east. It was part of the London postal district and Metropolitan Police District.

The Denmark Arms is a Grade II listed public house at 381 Barking Road, East Ham, London.It was built in about 1890, and extended about 1900. It was formerly named the Denmark Inn.In the 1890s, local football club Old Castle Swifts would use the Denmark Inn to change for matches at Temple Meadows in Wakefield Street. Much later, West Ham United fans would use the pub for pre-match drinks before attending games at the nearby Boleyn Ground.The Denmark Arms closed on 30 July 2018.In September 2018, the building was purchased by the Antic Collective company, and the Denmark Arms reopened on 15 November 2018, with plans announced to hold a pantomime and future theatre events in the pub's function room.

Langdon Academy (formerly Langdon School) is a mixed all-through school with academy status, located on Sussex Road, East Ham in the London Borough of Newham, England. It is situated in East Ham, close to the junction of the A124 (Barking Road) with the North Circular Road (A406): the school playing fields border on to the A406. This is near the eastern end terminus of the A406 with the A13 in Wallend, close to the boundary of Newham and Barking and Dagenham and Barking Creek. The River Roding runs behind the school in Barking.

St John the Baptist's Church, East Ham, was a Church of England church dedicated to St John the Baptist in East Ham, east London. It was built in 1866 as a chapel of ease to St Mary Magdalene's Church, then still the main parish church for the area. In 1902 it was converted into a church hall for the new church of St Bartholomew's and in 1925 it was demolished.

St Bartholomew's Church, East Ham is a Church of England church on Barking Road in East Ham, east London dedicated to Bartholomew the Apostle.It was built in 1902 to replace St John the Baptist's Church, which became its parish hall. Designed by Micklethwaite & Somers Clarke, it had a south aisle added in 1910. It was gutted by bombing in 1941 and a wooden hut was erected for worship within its shell, becoming known as 'St. Bartholomew-in-the-ruins', until it burned down in 1947. Services moved to the vestry then in 1948 to St John's Institute. The old church's south aisle was restored in 1949, followed by the rest of the church in 1953. It now forms part of the East Ham Team Parish (also known as the Parish of the Holy Trinity) alongside St Edmund's, St Mary Magdalene's and St Alban's.

Wall End (sometimes spelt as Wallend) is a locality in East Ham in East London, located in the borough of Newham. It is a little-used name for the area lying to the north of Beckton between Barking and East Ham. The name stems from an embankment wall that was formerly used to prevent flooding from the river Roding at the 'end' or 'outlying part' of East Ham. Much of the area consists of terraced housing dating from the building-boom of the late 19th century.

St George and St Ethelbert's Church, East Ham, is a Church of England church in East Ham, east London.St Mary Magdalene's Church, East Ham built a temporary mission hall known as St George's on the corner of Boston Road and Masterman Road by 1914, on a site bought on the Greatfield Estate around 1912. It became a parish of its own in 1923, though it took until 1936-1937 for a permanent church to be built, with more than 50% of the funding provided by the Diocese of Hereford, which requested the addition of St Ethelbert to the dedication - he is one of the two dedicatees of Hereford Cathedral, the other being the Virgin Mary.
