Stanstead Lock

Stanstead St Margarets, often abbreviated to just St Margarets, is a village and civil parish in the district of East Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire, England. It is located halfway between the towns of Hoddesdon and Ware. The village is separated from the village of Stanstead Abbotts by the River Lea, and had a population of 1,318 at the census of 2001, increasing to 1,652 at the 2011 Census.

St Margarets railway station is on the Hertford East branch line off the West Anglia Main Line in the east of England, serving the villages of Stanstead St Margarets and Stanstead Abbotts, Hertfordshire. It is 20 miles 25 chains (32.7 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Rye House and Ware. Its three-letter station code is SMT. It is in the civil parish of Great Amwell. The station and all trains calling are operated by Greater Anglia. St Margarets was previously the junction with the now closed Buntingford Branch Line to Buntingford. There is a ticket office that is open at peak times as well as a self-service ticket machine. The Oyster card system was extended through to Hertford East and became operational at St Margaret's in 2015.

Amwell Magna Fishery is located on the River Lea at Great Amwell which is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south of Ware in Hertfordshire, southern England.

St. Margaretsbury Football Club is a football club based in Stanstead Abbotts, near Ware, Hertfordshire, England. They are currently members of the Eastern Counties League Division One South and play at the Recreation Ground.

Amwell Quarry or Amwell Nature Reserve is a 37 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Great Amwell in Hertfordshire. The planning authority is East Hertfordshire District Council. It is also part of the Lee Valley Ramsar Site and Special Protection Area, and is owned and managed by the Hertfordshire and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.The site is a former gravel pit, which has been restored to become a wetland nature reserve with two lakes, Great Hardmead Lake and Hollycross Lake. It is internationally important for wintering wildfowl, and is Britain's most important site for dragonflies. It also has large communities of damselflies and breeding birds. Plants include marsh dock and hairlike pondweed, both nationally rare. Amwell has a quarter of all British species of molluscs.There is access from Amwell Lane and the site is open at all times.

The River Ash originates near the village of Brent Pelham in North Hertfordshire and flows through The Hadhams (Little, Ford and Much), Widford, Wareside, until it reaches the River Lea near Stanstead Abbots.

Stanstead Abbotts (alternatively Stanstead Abbots) is a village and civil parish in the district of East Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire, England; it lies on the county boundary with Essex. At the 2001 census, the parish had a population of 1,983.The village is situated approximately two miles (three kilometres) south-southeast of Ware, four miles (six kilometres) southeast of Hertford, two miles (three kilometres) north-northeast of Hoddesdon and five miles (eight kilometres) west of Harlow. The village is separated from the village of Stanstead St Margarets by the River Lea.

Great Amwell is a village and civil parish in the East Hertfordshire district, in the county of Hertfordshire, England. It is 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) southeast of Ware and about 20 miles (32 km) north of London. In 2011 the parish had a population of 2353.

The John Warner School is a secondary school with academy status for 11- to 18-year-olds in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, England. It is located on Stanstead Road opposite the Hundred Acre Estate and is backed by the New River.Established in 1953 as Hoddesdon Secondary School, it adopted the name John Warner in 1968, after the man who established the first all-boys school for all classes and any religious beliefs in 1841.The school has many facilities, including its sport centre which opened in 2001, (consisting of a swimming pool, several astro-turf pitches, sports hall and many other facilities), which is available for use by all students of the school, and also a newly built science block which was added in 2005, that aided the school in gaining the status of a Science College. Many local primary schools in the area have science lessons in the school's new laboratories. Also the school has specialist technology status. On the 1 April 2011, The John Warner School was reformed to Academy status.The school participates in many extra-curricular activities, and events, including Model United Nations, and the Vex Robotics Competition. It has also begun hosting its own MUN conferences. The school is undergoing renovation to improve the experience of the pupils, with multiple new blocks being built, starting with a new Modern Foreign Languages block, an Engineering & DT block, a new Library and temporary Mathematics department, and as of May 2016 a new Mathematics block is being built.

Rye Meads is a 58.5-hectare (145-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in Rye House, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. It is one of series of wetlands and reservoirs situated along the River Lea, to the north-east of London. It is part of the Lea Valley Ramsar site (a group of internationally important wetland sites) and a Special Protection Area. The SSSI is divided into three areas. North of Rye Road is the Rye Meads nature reserve, which is open to the public. The western half of this nature reserve, next to the River Lea in the Lee Valley Regional Park, is managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). The eastern half is managed by the Hertfordshire and Middlesex Wildlife Trust (HMWT). The SSSI also includes a meadow and lagoons owned by Thames Water south of Rye Road which is not open to the public.The RSPB reserve has ten birdwatching hides, trails and a visitor centre. Birds include kingfisher, snipe, green sandpiper, shoveler, gadwall and tufted duck.The HMWT site is an ancient flood meadow which has a variety of habitats including reedbed, marshy grassland and fen. It is grazed by ponies and water buffalo.The entrance to the nature reserve is on Rye Road. There is a path around the site, but a one-way turnstile blocks wheelchairs and pushchairs, and only allows access from the RSPB half to the HMWT area, not vice versa.

Hardmead Lock (No3) is a lock on the River Lee Navigation at Great Amwell close to the town of Ware. The lock has a reputation as being difficult to negotiate.
