Nelson power station supplied electricity to the town of Nelson, Lancashire and the surrounding area from 1892 to 1960. The power station was owned and operated by Nelson Corporation prior to the nationalisation of the British electricity supply industry in 1948. It was redeveloped in 1922 to 1925 to meet the increased demand for electricity.

Colne Water is a river in eastern Lancashire. It is approximately 5.0 miles (7.987 km) long and has a catchment area excluding its major tributaries (the River Laneshaw, Wycoller Beck, Trawden Brook and Wanless Water) of 4.47 square miles (11.584 km2).Colne Water is formed at the Covey Bridge near Laneshaw Bridge by the confluence of the River Laneshaw and Wycoller Beck. From there, the river runs in a westerly direction toward the town of Colne, collecting Trawden Brook at Cottontree. It continues through Colne's south valley, meeting Church Clough Brook in the Waterside area and passing under the East Lancashire railway line viaduct and the A56 Burnley Road at Primet Bridge. It is joined by Guy Syke at the Greenfield Bridge and passes the town's sewage works as it leaves, shortly afterwards collecting Wanless Water and then Swinden Clough just before it passes under the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It joins Pendle Water at the Lowerford part of Barrowford, just after the M65 motorway bridge.The name Colne possibly originates from the ancient British language, but the meaning is uncertain. It is thought that the town takes its name from the river. Water (OE wæter) is a common name for a stream, most often found in southern Scotland.

Bott Lane Halt railway station was a station on the East Lancashire line between Nelson and Colne, in Lancashire, England. It was situated off Bott House Lane near Colne and was closed in 1956 to passengers. The line remains open between Colne and Burnley, however nothing remains of the halt.

Walverden Water is a minor river in Lancashire, England. It is approximately 2.6 miles (4.2 km) long and has a catchment area of 5.04 square miles (1,304.23 ha).

William Roberts and Company (later William Roberts and Sons) of Phoenix Foundry in Nelson, Lancashire, England, produced many of the steam engines that powered cotton weaving and spinning mills of Pendle and neighbouring districts. Industrial historian Mike Rothwell has called Phoenix foundry “Nelson’s most significant engineering site”.

Nelson railway station serves the town of Nelson in Lancashire, and is situated on the East Lancashire Line 2 miles (3 km) away from the terminus at Colne. The station is managed by Northern, which also provides its passenger service. The station was opened on 1 February 1849 by the East Lancashire Railway (which later became part of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway) as Nelson Inn, Marsden named after the public house adjacent to the station.It was not until later in the nineteenth century that Nelson came into existence as a town and was previously two separate villages called Great Marsden and Little Marsden. The line was formerly on a through route to Skipton and the Aire Valley, but this was closed beyond Colne in 1970. The station forms part of Nelson Interchange, which also includes a new bus station, which opened in December 2008, adjacent to the now disused eastbound platform. The station originally had an island platform configuration, but only the westbound face is now used following the singling of the track southwards to Rose Grove in December 1986. The station still has its original platform canopy.

Nelson Town Hall is a municipal building in Market Square, Nelson, Lancashire, England. The building is the headquarters for both Pendle Borough Council and Nelson Town Council.

Higherford is a village in the Pendle district of Lancashire, England. Although it is a village in its own right and shown on maps, it is sometimes confused with its larger neighbour Barrowford. Both villages meet each other on the A682 road, which runs through them from Nelson and towards Blacko and Gisburn. It is generally accepted that the boundary between the two villages is north of the road bridge over Pendle Water.

Christ Church is a church and local ecumenical partnership in Nelson, Lancashire, England. It is situated on Carr Road in the town centre. The building has been shared by the Methodist Church of Great Britain and the Roman Catholic Church since 2004 – a rare example of an ecumenical union between Methodists and Roman Catholics.The Catholic congregation which meets in the church is the successor to the first mission in Nelson, dedicated to St Joseph, which used three successive church buildings. The Catholics began sharing a now-demolished building with the Methodists in 2001, construction of the Carr Road premises began in 2002, and it was opened on 6 June 2004 by Bishop Terence Brain. In 2019 a ceremony, attended by leaders from each denomination, was held to renew the "covenant" between the two traditions. The church is active and used for Methodist services and Catholic masses.The church building is constructed with a steel frame and concrete blocks, faced in local stone and with a slate roof. It has stained glass windows and banners with a bifurcate theme.

Ss John Fisher and Thomas More RC High School is a coeducational secondary school located in Colne in the English county of Lancashire. The school is named after the Roman Catholic Saints John Fisher and Thomas More. The headteacher from September 2002 to July 2007 was Mr Brendan Conboy, who moved to Our Lady's Catholic College.
