Harworth

Harworth Bircotes or Harworth and Bircotes is a town and civil parish in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands of England. The parish includes the settlements of Bircotes and Harworth. The parish was created on 1 April 1974 out of Harworth parish. Harworth and Bircotes Town Council is the lowest tier of local government.

Harworth Colliery was a colliery near the town of Harworth Bircotes in Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire, England. It was abandoned in 2006 due to troubles at the seam. UK Coal, who owned and maintained the mine, were waiting for a contract to make it worth investing money to open up a new seam. Bassetlaw has at the moment no working pits; the nearest was Maltby Main Colliery in South Yorkshire which closed in 2013. The mothballing of the pit in 2006 brought an end to 86 years of mining in Bassetlaw. The area has since been redeveloped for retail, industrial and residential.

Styrrup is a village in the civil parish of Styrrup with Oldcotes on the B6463 road in the Bassetlaw district, in the English county of Nottinghamshire. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 685. It is near the small town of Harworth. The village is surrounded by farmland and is approximately 1 mile from the A1 road intersection at Blyth. The housing consists primarily of modern properties constructed in the 1970s and numerous barn conversions arranged off the Main Street. The local pub, The White Swan, has been demolished and replaced by modern housing.

Styrrup with Oldcotes is a civil parish in the Bassetlaw district, within the county of Nottinghamshire, England. The overall area had a population of 684 at the 2011 census. The parish lies in the north of the county. It is 138 miles north west of London, 31 miles north of the city of Nottingham, and 15 miles east of the city of Sheffield. The parish rests alongside the county border with South Yorkshire.

Serlby Park Academy is a mixed all-through school and sixth form located in the twin villages of Bircotes and Harworth in North Nottinghamshire. The school also serves the nearby towns of Serlby, Styrrup, Blyth, Misson, among others. It is part of the Delta Academies Trust, along with several other schools and academies in the area.

Harworth Colliery Football Club is an English football club based in Harworth and Bircotes, Nottinghamshire. The club are currently members of the Central Midlands League North Division.

Bircotes is an area in the civil parish of Harworth Bircotes (with Harworth) in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, England on the border with South Yorkshire. The population of the civil parish was 7,948. The local school in the area is Serlby Park Academy. Bircotes was founded in the 1920s, with the discovery of coal during the First World War and the establishment of Harworth Colliery (which has since closed), to provide homes for miners. It was home to one of the last deep-mine pits in the UK.

Serlby Hall is a grade I listed 18th century mansion and estate in Nottinghamshire, England, located 7 miles north-east of Worksop.It is constructed of red brick and ashlar with a hipped slate roof. It is built in two storeys with a nine bay frontage, which has a colonnaded portico.

Strafforth and Tickhill , originally known as Strafforth, was the southernmost wapentake in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. The original meeting place of the wapentake is unknown, but may have been the future site of Conisbrough Castle.The Earldom of Strafford takes its name from a variant of this district name, wherein the first incumbent Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford originated.

Oldcotes Dyke is the name of the final section of a river system that drains parts of north Nottinghamshire and the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, England. Historically, it has supported milling, with seven water mills drawing their power from its water, and ran through the grounds of the Cistercian Roche Abbey. It is a tributary of the River Ryton.

Tickhill & Wadworth—consisting of Braithwell, Micklebring, Stainton, Tickhill, Wadworth and Woodfield—is one of 21 electoral wards in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. It forms part of the Don Valley parliamentary constituency. It is represented by two Conservative Party councillors. In 2011 it had a population of 10,248. The ward was formed in 2015.
