Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ is located in Denmark, Iowa, United States. The church building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Denmark Congregational Church in 1977. The church is noteworthy because of its association with the Rev. Asa Turner, Jr. He was a noted abolitionist and supporter of the temperance movement, who was the pastor of the congregation in its early years. He was an early Congregationalist missionary to Iowa and encouraged the American Home Missionary Society to send more missionaries to the Iowa Territory. His requests resulted in the arrival of nine young men from Andover Theological Seminary in 1843. Known as the "Iowa Band", they established churches in eastern Iowa based on Turner's Denmark church.The church building is a brick structure with a truncated square tower. A tall, slender spire had been completed in 1871, but was lost in a storm in 1953. Instead of replacing it, the crenelations were created at the top of the tower instead. A pedimented vestibule is located at the base of the tower. The side elevations are three bays long with a round-arch window in each bay. The interior of the church is plain. An education wing was built to the west of the church in 1958, and a vestibule on the east side (date unknown) replaced a previous vestibule.

The Bridgeport Bridge is a historic structure located near Denmark, Iowa, United States. This span was a replacement bridge for structure whose middle stone pier was deteriorating. The weaknesses in the old bridge were noted in 1887 and 1893. Both Des Moines and Lee counties financed the $5,110 construction of this bridge, which spans the Skunk River between the two counties. The 240-foot-long (73 m) Pennsylvania truss bridge was built in 1904 by the Clinton Bridge and Iron Works of Clinton, Iowa. It carried local traffic for nearly 90 years before it was closed. It has the distinction of being the longest pin-connected truss remaining in Iowa. The Bridgeport Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

It is located 10 miles southwest of Burlington and nine miles north of Fort Madison, off U.S. Route 61 and Iowa Highway 16. The community is part of the Burlington, IA–IL Micropolitan Statistical Area.

The Iowa State Penitentiary (ISP) is an Iowa Department of Corrections maximum security prison for men located in the Lee County, Iowa, community of Fort Madison. This facility should not be confused with the Historical Iowa State Penitentiary, which was shut down in 2015 after being open for 175 years. The HISP itself was a 550-person maximum security unit. Also on the complex was a John Bennett Correctional Center - a 169-person medium security unit. The HISP included two minimum-security farms with about 170 people who were located within a few miles of the main complex. The complex also had a ten-person multiple care unit, and a 120-bed special-needs unit for prisoners with mental illness or other diseases that require special medical care. In total, there were about 950 inmates and 510 staff members. The current Iowa State Penitentiary remains in the same city as the HISP, the community of Fort Madison, but is simply on a different property about a mile away up the road. The current ISP is now the only functioning Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison, as the HISP was shut down in 2015 when all of the inmates were moved. ISP has the facilities to hold a maximum of 760 inmates, who are dispersed into several different units, including two that are used for general population inmates, one that is used for inmates in restricted housing, and a medical unit. ISP offers many opportunities for the incarcerated individuals, including opportunities in gaining an education through the local community college, Southeastern Community College, and apprenticeship opportunities through the United States Department of Labor. Inmates also have access to numerous recreational activities, including cabinetry and woodworking.

Fort Madison has the secondary school campus and one early childhood campus, while West Point has the elementary school and an early childhood center on another campus. The school system is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Davenport.

KBKB (1360 kHz) is an AM radio station serving the communities of Fort Madison, Burlington, and Keokuk, Iowa. The station primarily broadcasts a sports format, airing programming from Fox Sports Radio, including Colin Cowherd and JT The Brick. KBKB is owned by Pritchard Broadcasting Corporation. It was first licensed on January 10, 1949. Pritchard Broadcasting Corporation (owned by John T. Pritchard) agreed to purchase the station from GAP West (owned by Skip Weller) in late 2007. The station was owned by Clear Channel prior to GAP West.
