Chaplin Historic District

The Witter House is a historic house on Chaplin Street in Chaplin, Connecticut. Built in 1820–21, it is a high-quality and little-altered example of Federal period architecture executed in brick. It was home to the town's first town clerk, remaining in the Witter family until 1960. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

Chaplin is a town in Windham County, Connecticut, United States. The town is part of the Northeastern Connecticut Planning Region. The town was named for Deacon Benjamin Chaplin, an early settler. The population was 2,151 at the 2020 census.

James L. Goodwin State Forest is a Connecticut state forest covering approximately 2,000 acres (810 ha) in the towns of Chaplin and Hampton. The lands became public property when James L. Goodwin donated the personal forest he had been developing since 1913 to the state in 1964.

Parish Hill High School is a regional secondary school and middle school in rural Chaplin, Connecticut.

The Mount Hope River is a river in northeastern section of the U.S. state of Connecticut. The river is formed at the outlet of Morey Pond at the extreme northern end of Ashford, Connecticut, at the border of Union, Connecticut, and flows about 15 miles (24 km) south to Mansfield Hollow Lake, just south of Mansfield, Connecticut.

Mansfield Hollow State Park is a public recreation area occupying 251 acres (102 ha) of leased lands on the western shore of 500-acre (200 ha) Mansfield Hollow Lake in the town of Mansfield, Connecticut. The state park is one portion of the 2,300 acres (930 ha) leased by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for recreational and wildlife management purposes. Geologic features of the park include remnants of the last glacial period, where retreating glaciers left kames, eskers, and kettles. Recreational opportunities include facilities for boating, fishing, picnicking, hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. The park is traversed by the southeastern leg of the Nipmuck Trail.

Mansfield Hollow Lake is a reservoir resting on the border of Windham County and Tolland County, Connecticut. The reservoir provides drinking water for Willimantic and helps control flooding in the 159-square-mile Thames River watershed. It was created by the Mansfield Hollow Dam and is entirely contained within Mansfield Hollow State Park and the Mansfield Hollow Wildlife Area. Designed and constructed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, the dam substantially reduces flooding along the Quinebaug, Shetucket, and Thames rivers. Construction of the project began in 1949 with completion in 1952 at a cost of US$6.5 million. The Mansfield Hollow reservoir is located within the Shetucket River Watershed and is part of the Thames River Basin. Access to the site is available from US Route 6 and State Route 195. The damsite, covering an area of 25 acres (10 ha), was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

The Church Farm is a historic former farm at 396 Mansfield Road in Ashford, Connecticut. Built in 1821, the main house is a remarkably sophisticated example of Federal period architecture in a rural setting. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. It is now the Church Center of Eastern Connecticut State University.

Beaver Brook State Park is an undeveloped public recreation area covering 401 acres (162 ha) in the towns of Windham and Chaplin, Connecticut. The state park encompasses Bibbins Pond, also known as Beaver Brook Pond, as well as the acreage northward as far as the Air Line State Park Trail, which forms the park's northern boundary. The park is a walk-in facility, open for hunting and trout fishing, managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Hampton is a town in Windham County, Connecticut, United States. The town is part of the Northeastern Connecticut Planning Region. The population was 1,728 at the 2020 census.

The Natchaug Forest Lumber Shed is a historic utility building in Natchaug State Forest in Eastford, Connecticut. It was built in the 1930s, and is one of the only surviving buildings (of a large number) built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the forest. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Proposal Rocks is the name of a 29.9 acre nature preserve owned by Joshua's Trust in that features a group of granite boulders. It was donated to Joshua's Trust in 2003, and in 2009 was connected to 134-acre Coney Rock preserve by a 5.9 acre space of land.The site was named Proposal Rocks because the previous owner Leonora Mullane's parents had gotten married in that spot.
