Biyagama

Malwana (Sinhala: මල්වාන Tamil: மல்வான) is a town of 36,050 (estimate as of 2011) inhabitants in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. It is situated on the banks of the Kelani River, 14 km north-east of Colombo. It is part of the Gampaha District and Biyagama electoral division. Recognized all over Sri Lanka for the exotic Rambutan fruit that grows in the area, Malwana forms part of the Biyagama free-trade zone, where government incentives has drawn investors from around the world into manufacturing ventures involving clothing and light industry. Malwana Muslim area exist with several sub-areas as well as Raxapana, Vidanagoda, Malwana- Town, Daluggala, Thottam, Pallam, Kandawatta, Burulapitiya, Rajamalwatta, Malwatta, Walgama, Ulahitiwala, Pelangahawatta, Paaluwatta, Yatihena and other areas Yabaraluwa, Mapitigama, Barukanda, Wekanda, Nagahawatta.

Bomiriya Central/National College is a public college located in Kaduwela, a suburb of Colombo city in Western Province, Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (Sinhala: ශ්‍රී ලංකා තොරතුරු තා‌ක්ෂණ ආයතනය; Tamil: இலங்கை தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப நிறுவனம்; also known as SLIIT) is a private university located in Malabe and Colombo, Sri Lanka. It specialises in various fields like technology and management.SLIIT has three campuses. The main campus being based in Malabe, Metropolitan Campus in Colombo and the new Kandy Campus based on Pallekele. There are also four regional centers around the island. SLIIT is associated with several world class universities such as University of Queensland, Curtin University and Liverpool John Moores University. SLIIT offers more the 75 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees on a vast field ranging from Computer Science to Education. These degrees are either affiliated with a foreign university or offered by the SLIIT themselves under the approval from the UGC. SLIIT is one of the few Sri Lankan universities on the QS Asia University Rankings and Times Higher Education World University Rankings. It is the only non-state university to be named on both of the lists.

The Biyagama Water Treatment Plant or BWTP is a water treatment facility located at the bank of Kelani River, in Biyagama, Sri Lanka. At a daily output capacity of 160,000,000 L/d (1,900,000 L/ks), it is the second largest water treatment facility in the country. The plant provides drinking water to approximately one million people, in Wattala, Ja-Ela, Kelaniya, Biyagama, Ragama, Kandana, Kadawatha, Kiribathgoda, Seeduwa and Ganemulla, within the Gampaha District. Construction of the facility began on 22 October 2008. It was ceremonially inaugurated by President Mahinda Rajapakse on 22 July 2013. The facility uses raw water from the Kelani River. The maximum water loss during the purification process is 5%, due to raw water transmission, sludge de-watering and backwash.

Kaduwela Divisional Secretariat is a Divisional Secretariat of Colombo District, of Western Province, Sri Lanka. This divisional Secretariat also encompasses the area of the Kaduwela polling division.

The Battle of Mulleriyawa (Sinhala: මුල්ලේරියාව සටන) in 1559 was part of the Sinhalese–Portuguese War. It was one of the most decisive battles in Sri Lankan history and considered as the worst defeat of Portuguese during that period. According to local chronicles the marshlands of Mulleriyawa turned red with blood after the annihilation of the Portuguese. With this victory Sitawaka emerged as a military power which was able to challenge the Portuguese expansion.

The Sapugaskanda is a 160 megawatt power station located in Sapugaskanda, adjacent to the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery, in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. The power station consists of twelve generating units, supplied by MAN, and Siemens. Four of the units are rated at 20 MW, while the remaining eight are rated at 10 MW. The power station is operated by the Ceylon Electricity Board. Units 1-2 were commissioned in May 1984, unit 3 in September 1984, unit 4 in October 1984. These four 20 MW units make up the Sapugaskanda-A division. Units 5-8 were commissioned in September 1997, and units 8–12 in October 1999, which together make up the Sapugaskanda-B division. All units run on diesel.

Nawagamuwa Pattini Devalaya is a historic temple situated in Nawagamuwa in Colombo District, Sri Lanka. Considering its importance in historical, architectural and anthropological facets, the Archaeological Department has declared the Devalaya as an protected monument in the country.Nawagamuwa also inherits archeological sites that dates back to BC period as per archaeological research conducted in the area. The Devalaya is popular among the masses for its miracles and to receive the blessings of the goddess Pattini. Also many Sri Lankan pregnant mothers go there to get a blessing from the goddess Pattini to their unborn child.

Boys' Model School, Malabe (ආදර්ශ පිරිමි විද්‍යාලය - මාලඹේ) is a Sri Lankan school for boys aged 6–19, serving classes 1–13. The school is situated in the vicinity of Malabe overlooking the Kaduwela – Battaramulla main road. The school is in the Kaduwela division and the Sri Jayawardhanapura zone. Current enrollment is approximately 4,000. (Sinhala / English).

Malwana fort (Sinhala: මල්වාන බලකොටුව Malwana Balakothuwa) was located in Malwana, Gampaha, on the banks of the Kelani River. It was built by Portuguese in 1590s. The small fort served as a residence for the Portuguese Governor or Captain-Generals. Records indicate that a company of 70 soldiers were stationed at the fort. The fort was attacked by Kandyan forces in the 1630s. The Portuguese subsequently abandoned it and focused their forces on Colombo fort and its defence.There are records that indicate that the fort was also used by Dutch, with approx. 20–80 Dutch soldiers stationed there. It is likely that they would have reconstructed the fort during that time, although they later abandoned it as well.There are also stories that allege that Bhuvanaikabahu VII was assassinated by the Portuguese when he visited the Malwana fort.

The Lakdhanavi Power Station (also sometimes referred to as the Lakdhanavi Sapugaskanda Power Station) is a 24 MW thermal power station built in Sapugaskanda, Sri Lanka. Operated by Lakdhanavi (Private) Limited, it is one of three power stations in the Sapugaskanda region, the other two being the government-owned 160 MW Sapugaskanda Power Station, and the 51 MW Asia Power Sapugaskanda Power Station.

The Sapugaskanda Refinery (also referred to as Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery) is the single largest oil refinery of Sri Lanka. The refinery was built in August 1969 by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation under the guidance of Iran, initially designed to process 38,000 barrels (6,000 m3) per stream day of Dubai crude oil, and Arabian light crude oil. (Medium sour crude oil) It was commissioned on 12 October 1969. The facility, which covers an area of 165 acres (67 ha), currently has a capacity of 50,000 barrels (7,900 m3) per stream day. As with most refineries, the Sapugaskanda Refinery has an in-house utilities section which supplies electricity, water, steam, instrument air, and other necessities for operations. In total, 65 storage tanks are located at the premises for storage of crude oil, finished, and other products, five of which has a capacity of 40,000 tonnes (39,000 long tons). A further four crude oil tanks located in the separate Orugodawatta tank farm.
