Sturbridge Common Historic District

Sturbridge is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. It is home to Old Sturbridge Village living history museum and other sites of historical interest such as Tantiusques. The population was 9,867 at the 2020 census, with more than 3,600 households. The Oliver Wight House is a historic house located on Main Street (U.S. Route 20) in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Built in the 1780s, the house was first occupied by local cabinet maker Oliver Wight and his family. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The Georgian style dwelling was operated as a motor lodge by Old Sturbridge Village until 2006, and again from 2012-2020.

Sturbridge is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Sturbridge in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 2,253 at the 2010 census.

Old Sturbridge Village is a living museum located in Sturbridge, Massachusetts which recreates life in rural New England during the 1790s through 1830s. It is the largest living museum in New England, covering more than 200 acres (81 hectares). The Village includes 59 antique buildings, three water-powered mills, and a working farm. Third-person costumed interpreters demonstrate and interpret 19th-century arts, crafts, and agricultural work. The museum is popular among tourists and for educational field trips.

The Westville Dam is located on the Quinebaug River between Southbridge and Sturbridge, about 1.3 miles (2.1 km) west of the Southbridge town center and 18 miles (29 km) southwest of Worcester, Massachusetts. Designed and constructed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, this dam substantially reduces flooding along the Quinebaug and Thames rivers. Construction of the project began in June 1960 with completion in August 1962 at a cost of US$5.6 million. The Westville reservoir is located within the Quinebaug River Watershed and is part of the Thames River Basin. Access to the site is available from Interstate 84 and State Route 131.

Fiskdale (or Fiskedale) is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Sturbridge in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 2,583 at the 2010 census.

Walker Pond is a body of water in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, situated off Route 49 on the way to Wells State Park.

The Napoleon LaRochelle Two-Family House is a historic house at 30 Pine Street in Southbridge, Massachusetts. An excellent example of a vernacular Victorian duplex, it was probably built around 1890 for Napoleon LaRochelle, a polisher for the American Optical Company. He owned this and another house next door which was built in the same style. Its plan is a typical front-gable side entry layout, this time with a central cross gable. It has some bargeboard decoration on the front gable, and its front porch features a basket-weave railing.It was built in 1890 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Simon Plimpton Farmhouse is a historic farm in Southbridge, Massachusetts. It was probably built about 1789 by Simon Plimpton and his brother Baxter on family-owned land. Baxter Plimpton eventually deeded his share over to Simon; the house has been in the hands of Plimpton descendants since. The house is a 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house, five bays wide, with a center chimney. Although the house is nominally Federal in its styling, there are Greek Revival details (the broad eaves and door frames) that may have been added later. The full-width front porch is a late 19th-century addition.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The William McKinstry Jr. House is a historic house at 915 W. Main Street in Southbridge, Massachusetts. It is a 2+ story building, unusual because of its distinctive monitor roof. Its construction date is unknown, but it is documented in a painting of Southbridge's Globe Village area in 1822. It appears to have been intended for housing, but the monitor roof is more typically associated with mill buildings. It is known to have been occupied by William McKinstry Jr., son of an early Southbridge settler, in 1836.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The William McKinstry Farmhouse is a historic house at 361 Pleasant Street in Southbridge, Massachusetts. Despite significant later alteration, it is one of the oldest surviving farmhouses in Southbridge. It was built in about 1780 by William McKinstry, a British Army soldier who arrived in the area as a deserter in 1748, and is still owned by his descendants. Despite later modifications (notably the 19th century front dormer and side ell, and the application of siding), the basic 1+1⁄2-story five bay plan with twin chimneys is recognizable.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Southbridge Municipal Airport (FAA LID: 3B0) is a public airport located two miles (3 km) north of the central business district (CBD) of the Town of Southbridge, a city in Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA. The airport is owned and operated by the Town of Southbridge and overseen by the Southbridge Municipal Airport Commission. It covers 229 acres (93 ha), has a single runway, averages 142 flights per day, and has approximately 30 aircraft based on its field. The airport sustained damage on June 1 from the 2011 New England tornado outbreak.
