East Dunbartonshire (UK Parliament constituency)

Lennoxtown (Scottish Gaelic: Baile na Leamhnachd, pronounced [ˈpalə nə ˈʎãũnəxk]) is a town in the East Dunbartonshire council area and the historic county of Stirlingshire, Scotland. The Campsie Fells are located to Lennoxtown's north. The town had a population of 4,094 at the 2011 UK census.

The Lennox (Scottish Gaelic: Leamhnachd, pronounced [ˈʎãũnəxk]) is a region of Scotland centred on The Vale of Leven, including its great loch: Loch Lomond. The Gaelic name of the river is Leamhn, meaning the smooth stream, which anglicises to Leven (as Gaelic mh is spirantised). The surrounding area is the field of the smooth stream - Leamhnachd in Gaelic; this was originally anglicised as Levenauchen / Levenachs, then softened into Levenax / Lennax, and eventually the area was known simply as Lennox. Lennox was not one of the so-called seven ancient Provinces of Scotland, but formed as a province in the Middle Ages. The district embraced the whole of the ancient sheriffdom of Dumbarton: the parishes of Rosneath, Arrochar, Row, Luss, Cardross, Bonhill, Dumbarton, Kilmaronock, New Kilpatrick, Old Kilpatrick, Baldernock, Buchanan, Drymen, Killearn, Balfron, Fintry, and Strathblane, with Campsie and Kilsyth, being all within the bounds ruled over by the Earls of Lennox.In 1581 James VI of Scotland granted Esmé Stewart, Earl of Lennox, the title of Duke of Lennox; the title is currently held by Charles Gordon-Lennox. Under local government reforms in the mid-19th century, the province of Lennox was re-structured as the County of Dunbartonshire, when the north-eastern shore of Loch Lomond was transferred to Stirlingshire.

Lennoxtown Training Centre is Celtic F.C.'s training centre, located at Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire in Scotland. The complex houses the club's training and educational facilities.

The Finglen Burn is a burn in Scotland that runs from north east of the Earl's Seat (the highest point on the Campsie Fells) to just north of Campsie Village where it merges with the Kirk Burn to form the Glazert Water. Named tributaries of the burn from the earliest to the latest are as follows: Cooper's Gote, Flaughter Burn, Earl's Burn, Altmarrage Burn, Almarnock Burn, Horse Burn, Almeel Burn and finally the Pow Burn.In the History of Stirlingshire by William Nimmo, the burn is said to be named "to the alleged ancient resort of Giants".

Haughhead is a hamlet two miles from Lennoxtown in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It was historically part of Stirlingshire until 1975, when it became part of Strathclyde along with many other towns and villages.

Clachan of Campsie or Campsie Glen (Scottish Gaelic: Clachan Chamais) is a settlement in the East Dunbartonshire area of Scotland. It was formerly part of the county of Stirlingshire. It is situated to the south of the Campsie Fells at the foot of Campsie Glen where the Finglen and Aldessan Burns meet, forming the Glazert Water which then flows south-east until it joins the River Kelvin near Kirkintilloch.

Lennox Castle is an abdandoned castle in Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland, approximately 12 miles (19 kilometres) north of Glasgow. It is infamous for previously hosting Lennox Castle Hospital, Scotland's "largest institution for people with learning disabilities".The castle was built between 1837 and 1841 by David Hamilton for John Lennox Kincaid, on the Lennox of Woodhead Estate, replacing Kincaid House. In 1927, the castle and its land was purchased by the Glasgow Corporation, and converted into a hospital for people with learning disabilities; the hospital opened in 1936. The castle itself was the nurses' home, whilst its grounds provided accommodation for about 1,200 patients. The Scotsman reports that soon afterwards, the facilities were "vastly overcrowded, understaffed and underfunded".By 1982, 1360 patients between the ages of 10 and 80 years old were looked after by around 500 staff- with fewer than half of these being trained nurses. The Scottish Hospitals Advisory Service had visited the year before and recommended a further 100 staff. The care provided by the hospital was reported to be poor, with patients being malnourished.There was also a separate maternity unit in operation between the 1940s and 1960s; singer Lulu and footballer John Brown were among the babies born there.This hospital was closed in 2002, as a reflection in changes to how society treated patients with learning disabilities with a view to keeping them in the community. Further it was noted that patients were treated poorly by staff.The castle itself (Category A listed since the 1970s) is in ruins following a fire in 2008. Part of the grounds of the castle were converted into Celtic F.C.'s Lennoxtown Training Centre (opened in 2007), while other parts towards Lennoxtown village have become a long-term residential development to be completed in several phases, known as Campsie Village.

Located in East Dunbartonshire, the Aldessan Burn (Scottish Gaelic: Allt Easain, meaning "burn of the falls"; also known as the Kirk Burn) is formed as headwaters which descend from the Campsie Fells. The Burn flows through Campsie Glen to Clachan of Campsie and upon merging with the Finglen Burn a half-mile (1 km) to the southeast, forms the Glazert Water.

The Glazert Water is a tributary of the River Kelvin in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It is formed 1 kilometre (5⁄8 mi) south of Clachan of Campsie (55.9804°N 4.2215°W / 55.9804; -4.2215 (Glazert Water, source)) at the junction of the Finglen Burn and the Aldessan Burn, which both descend from the Campsie Fells. The Glazert Water runs southeast for 6.5 kilometres (4 mi), flowing past both Lennoxtown and Milton of Campsie on the way, before finally joining with the much smaller River Kelvin 1 km north of Kirkintilloch (55.9467°N 4.1531°W / 55.9467; -4.1531 (Glazert Water, mouth)).
