Little River railway station

Little River is a town in Victoria, Australia, approximately 44 kilometres (27 mi) south-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Greater Geelong and Wyndham local government areas. Little River recorded a population of 1,353 at the 2021 census.

Point Wilson is a locality located on the northern shores of Corio Bay, Victoria. it is approximately 60 kilometres by road from Melbourne, and 25 kilometres by road from Geelong. The locality is bounded by Pousties Road to the west, the Princes Freeway to the north west, Little River to the north east, and Corio Bay to the south. Point Wilson is sparsely populated, and public access to the area is restricted due to the explosives facility located in the area. Other nearby land uses include the Murtcaim Wildlife Area and Melbourne Water's Western Treatment Plant.

Avalon Raceway is a dirt track racing venue located in Lara, Victoria, Australia. The track is based on a clay sand mix, is oval shaped and is 390 metres (430 yards) in length.

The You Yangs are a series of granite ridges that rise up to 319 m (1,047 ft) above the flat and low-lying Werribee Plain in southern Victoria, Australia, approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) due west of the rural town of Little River, 55 km (34 mi) southwest of Melbourne CBD and 22 km (14 mi) north of Geelong. The main ridge runs roughly north-south for about 9 km (5.6 mi), with a lower extension running for about 15 km (9.3 mi) to the west. Much of the southern parts of the ranges are protected by the You Yangs Regional Park. The You Yangs sits about halfway between the Brisbane Ranges to the west and the nearest coast of the Corio Bay to the southeast. Although only 319 m at its highest (Flinders Peak, at the southern end), it dominates the surrounding landscape and are clearly identifiable from nearby Geelong, Melbourne and beyond. The You Yangs are home to a geoglyph of Bunjil, a Dreamtime creator deity to some of the Indigenous people of Victoria, depicted as an wedge-tailed eagle. The geoglyph was constructed by the Australian artist Andrew Rogers in recognition of the local Indigenous Wathaurong people. Unveiled in March 2006, the geoglyph has a wing span of 100 metres and 1500 tonnes of rock was used in its construction.

Mambourin is a newly established urban city in Victoria, Australia, 38 km (24 mi) south-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Wyndham local government area. Mambourin recorded a population of 315 at the 2021 census.The proposed suburb is a result of two major house and land projects in the area - Country Garden Australia's Windermere project (4,700 lots) and Frasers Property's Mambourin project (1,200 lots). Based on an average population of 3.1 people per household in the Wyndham LGA in the 2016 census, this will make the suburb's future population in excess of 18,000 persons. This population forecast, when compared to the current population count of 4 from the 2016 census, would result in a predicted growth of roughly 450,000% over the next few years. Mambourin will be built around a planned new train station on the existing Regional Rail Link, allowing the suburb's residents to commute directly to the Melbourne CBD. In addition, Mambourin will also have local convenience shopping, including a supermarket, up to 50 specialty stores and an entertainment precinct, as well as two public primary schools and one public secondary school.

The Western Treatment Plant (formerly the Metropolitan Sewage Farm or, more commonly, the Werribee Sewage Farm) is a 110 km2 (42 sq mi) sewage treatment plant in Cocoroc, Victoria, Australia, 30 km (19 mi) west of Melbourne's central business district, on the coast of Port Phillip Bay. It was completed in 1897 by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works (MMBW), and is currently operated by Melbourne Water. The plant's land is bordered by the Werribee River to the east, the Princes Freeway to the north, and Avalon Airport to the west. It forms part of the Port Phillip Bay (Western Shoreline) and Bellarine Peninsula Ramsar Site as a wetland of international importance. The Western Treatment Plant treats around fifty percent of Melbourne's sewage — about 485 megalitres or 393 acre-feet per day — and generates almost 40,000 megalitres or 32,000 acre-feet of recycled water a year. (The Eastern Treatment Plant treats 40%.)

The Australian International Airshow, also called the Avalon Airshow, is a large air show held biennially at Avalon Airport, between Melbourne and Geelong in Victoria. The event has a strong focus on military aviation, featuring aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force, United States Navy and the United States Air Force. Representatives from other air arms have also appeared at the airshow on many occasions, including aircraft from the Royal Air Force, Japan Air Self-Defense Force, Republic of Singapore Air Force and many others. It has been said by air show organisers to be the largest air show in the southern hemisphere.The airshow has periodically attracted anti-war protests.

Avalon Airport (IATA: AVV, ICAO: YMAV) is an international capable airport, while currently domestic airport, located in Avalon in the City of Greater Geelong in Victoria, Australia. While located outside the Melbourne metropolitan area, it is the second busiest of the four airports serving the state capital in passenger traffic. It is located 15 km (9 mi) north-east of the Geelong CBD and 50 kilometres (31 mi) south-west of the Melbourne CBD. The airport is operated by Avalon Airport Australia Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Linfox. Avalon is currently served by passenger airlines Jetstar, which began domestic flights in 2004, and Bonza, which began service at the airport in February 2023. The airport is also the site of the biennial Australian International Airshow.Unlike Melbourne Airport, Avalon Airport is not governed by the Commonwealth's Airports Act 1996. The airport has a single runway in addition to a helipad.

The Werribee and Avalon Important Bird Area comprises some 37 km2 of coastal land along the northwestern shore of Port Phillip in the state of Victoria, in southeastern Australia. It is important for a wide variety of waterbirds.

Manor is a closed station which was located about halfway between Werribee and Little River stations on the Geelong railway line in Victoria, Australia. A signal box was opened at the site in February 1911, controlling a new crossing loop on the single line between Werribee and Little River. Passenger and goods facilities were provided in August 1914. At the start of the 1920s, the Victorian Railways opened a bluestone quarry 1.5 kilometres south of the station, to provide track ballast. The quarry was served by a long siding, parallel with the main line, leading from station yard. The quarry probably ceased operating in the 1930s. Manor was closed in November 1970 when the line between Werribee and Little River was duplicated, making the crossing loop redundant. The buildings and platform were demolished shortly afterwards. A crossing loop with the same name, located slightly to the north of the station site, was provided on the parallel Western standard gauge line when it opened in 1995. Manor is also where the Regional Rail Link branches from the direct Geelong-Melbourne rail line.

Lake Borrie Wetlands is a coastal wetland that is located in the Greater Geelong region of Victoria, Australia. The wetland is situated within the Western Treatment Plant at Werribee; administered by Melbourne Water. Fed by run off from the Little River, the 70-hectare (170-acre) wetland forms part of the Port Phillip Bay (Western Shoreline) and Bellarine Peninsula Ramsar Site as a wetland of international importance. Thousands of birds amongst more than 270 different species can be found there. The lake is part of the Werribee and Avalon Important Bird Area, identified as such by BirdLife International because of its importance for wetland and waterbirds as well as for orange-bellied parrots.The lake was named in honour of Edwin Fullarton Borrie, a civil engineer and town planner in Melbourne.

The Spit Nature Conservation Reserve is a 300 ha nature reserve on the north-western shore of Port Phillip, a large bay in Victoria, Australia. It consists of public land set aside to conserve and protect species, communities, and habitats of indigenous plants and animals. It is adjacent to the Werribee Sewage Farm and is managed by Parks Victoria.
