Ås, Viken

Ås Station (Norwegian: Ås stasjon) is a railway station in Ås, Norway on the Østfold Line. The station was opened on 2 January 1879 and designed by Peter A. Blix in Swiss chalet style. The station was modernized in 1992, when the section between Ski and Moss was upgraded to double track and speeds up to 160 kilometres per hour (99 mph). In 2006, a cultural meeting place comprising a café, concert hall and an art exhibition was established inside the station's building, initiated by the local organization "Galleri Texas" and to the governmental corporation Follo Futura. Galleri Texas and Follo Futura had been arguing a while over how the operating of the café should be, and in 2010, all the maintenance and operation of the meeting place were transferred entirely from Galleri Texas to Follo Futura, since Galleri Texas no longer were satisfied with Follo Futuras work. The station is served by commuter trains on the Line L21 of the Oslo Commuter Rail, running from Stabekk over Oslo to Moss. Ski Station and Vestby Station are the preceding and the following stations, respectively.

Årungen is a lake in Norway in the municipality of Ås about 18 miles (29 km) south of Oslo which is notable for being an environment containing microscopic creatures called collodictyons. Norwegian scientists have been studying the creatures for two decades and speculate that they may be one of the oldest known organisms, and may provide clues about the origins of life. One kilometre south of the lake lies the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. The lake's elevation is 33 metres (108 ft) and it straddles both Ås and Frogn municipalities of Akershus county. The surface area is 1.2 square kilometres (0.46 sq mi). Its drainage basin is Østensjøvannet (a small lake in the east) and a number of minor streams. It drains into Årungselva river northward to Bunnefjorden. The eastern shore of the lake has been adapted with strolling paths and picnic areas. The water is shallow and rich with nutrients, and inflow from agriculture annually causes blooms of toxic blue-green algae. Nevertheless the lake is rich in fish life, with northern pike, European perch, Common Roach and European eel. The water quality has improved in recent years. The wetlands in the southern end is an important part of the local fauna and flora. Årungen is also home to the Norwegian national center for rowing and paddling. Årungen was host to the 1993 World Rowing Junior Championships.

The Vebjørn Sand da Vinci Project built a laminated-wood parabolic-arch pedestrian bridge in Norway over European route E18 in Ås, Norway, in 2000. It was a partnership between the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the Norwegian painter and artist Vebjørn Sand, who headed the project. The resulting da Vinci Bridge is one of several installations for which Sand is known in Norway.

Vestby Station (Norwegian: Vestby stasjon) is a railway station on the Østfold Line located in the village of Vestby, Norway. It is served by commuter trains operated by Vy running from Oslo to Moss. The station opened in 1879, and was modernised in the early 1990s. It features a passenger walkway built in gluelam connecting its two platforms and a small parking lot with place for approximately 120 cars. In 1950 the station served about 160 passengers to Oslo each day. Today the number are 2-3000.

Teater Ibsen (from 1975 to 1991 Telemark Teater) is a theatre in Skien in Vestfold og Telemark, Norway. The theatre was established in 1975 as Telemark Teater, and changed its name to Teater Ibsen in 1991. The theatre serves as regional theatre for the counties of Telemark and Vestfold. From 1986 to 2010 the theatre played at Festiviteten in Skien, and relocated to a former industrial site at Klosterøya in Skien in 2011. Anders T. Andersen was appointed artistical director from 2010.

Follo Folk High School (Follo Folkehøgskole in Norwegian) is located in Vestby, Viken county (fylke), Norway, a community of approximately 13,150 inhabitants. The school accepts 105 students annually. The main campus houses a library, gymnasium with theatre stage, dance studio, auditorium, dining hall, workshops for arts and crafts, and a recording studio.Follo Folk High School provides no vocational or professional training and awards no formal academic credits. However, students do complete a year of systematic education and receive a certificate of attendance showing their participation in different activities.All instruction is held in Norwegian. Courses include personal training, dance/hiphop, vocals (solo and choir), musical theatre, band (non-orchestral) and film.

Follo og Nordre Østfold District Court (Norwegian: Follo og Nordre Østfold tingrett) is a district court located in Innlandet county, Norway. This court is based at two different courthouses which are located in Ski and Mysen. The court serves the eastern part of the county which includes cases from nine municipalities. The court in Ski accepts cases from the municipalities of Enebakk, Frogn, Nesodden, Nordre Follo, Vestby, and Ås. The court in Mysen accepts cases from the municipalities of Indre Østfold, Marker, and Skiptvet. The court is subordinate to the Eidsivating Court of Appeal.The court is led by a chief judge (sorenskriver) and several other judges. The court is a court of first instance. Its judicial duties are mainly to settle criminal cases and to resolve civil litigation as well as bankruptcy. The administration and registration tasks of the court include death registration, issuing certain certificates, performing duties of a notary public, and officiating civil wedding ceremonies. Cases from this court are heard by a combination of professional judges and lay judges.
