Ås Station

Ås is a municipality in former Akershus now Viken county, Norway. It is part of the Follo traditional region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Ås. The parish of Aas was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Ås is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Akershus, with a population of 20,652 in 2020, and an increase of 539 in 2008. Ås is the largest agricultural municipality of Akershus, and home to the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and the amusement park Tusenfryd.

Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research (Bioforsk) is a national Norwegian R&D institute specialising in the fields of agriculture and food production, environmental protection and natural resource management. Furthermore, Bioforsk focuses on research-based innovation, value creation and sustainable resource utilisation. Bioforsk aims to be a regionally, nationally and internationally competitive knowledge producer and service provider.

The Norwegian University of Life Sciences (Norwegian: Norges miljø- og biovitenskapelige universitet, NMBU) is a public university located in Ås, Norway. It is located at Ås in Viken, near Oslo, and at Adamstuen in Oslo and has around 5,200 students.

Danskerud is a village in Akershus, Norway.

Årungen is a lake in Norway in the municipality of Ås about 18 miles (29 km) south of Oslo which is notable for being an environment containing microscopic creatures called collodictyons. Norwegian scientists have been studying the creatures for two decades and speculate that they may be one of the oldest known organisms, and may provide clues about the origins of life. One kilometre south of the lake lies the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. The lake's elevation is 33 metres (108 ft) and it straddles both Ås and Frogn municipalities of Akershus county. The surface area is 1.2 square kilometres (0.46 sq mi). Its drainage basin is Østensjøvannet (a small lake in the east) and a number of minor streams. It drains into Årungselva river northward to Bunnefjorden. The eastern shore of the lake has been adapted with strolling paths and picnic areas. The water is shallow and rich with nutrients, and inflow from agriculture annually causes blooms of toxic blue-green algae. Nevertheless the lake is rich in fish life, with northern pike, European perch, Common Roach and European eel. The water quality has improved in recent years. The wetlands in the southern end is an important part of the local fauna and flora. Årungen is also home to the Norwegian national center for rowing and paddling. Årungen was host to the 1993 World Rowing Junior Championships.

The Vebjørn Sand da Vinci Project built a laminated-wood parabolic-arch pedestrian bridge in Norway over European route E18 in Ås, Norway, in 2000. It was a partnership between the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the Norwegian painter and artist Vebjørn Sand, who headed the project. The resulting da Vinci Bridge is one of several installations for which Sand is known in Norway.

Follo og Nordre Østfold District Court (Norwegian: Follo og Nordre Østfold tingrett) is a district court located in Innlandet county, Norway. This court is based at two different courthouses which are located in Ski and Mysen. The court serves the eastern part of the county which includes cases from nine municipalities. The court in Ski accepts cases from the municipalities of Enebakk, Frogn, Nesodden, Nordre Follo, Vestby, and Ås. The court in Mysen accepts cases from the municipalities of Indre Østfold, Marker, and Skiptvet. The court is subordinate to the Eidsivating Court of Appeal.The court is led by a chief judge (sorenskriver) and several other judges. The court is a court of first instance. Its judicial duties are mainly to settle criminal cases and to resolve civil litigation as well as bankruptcy. The administration and registration tasks of the court include death registration, issuing certain certificates, performing duties of a notary public, and officiating civil wedding ceremonies. Cases from this court are heard by a combination of professional judges and lay judges.

Ski Storsenter is a shopping mall located at Ski in Viken county, Norway. In 2002 it had a turnover of 1,186 billion Norwegian kroner. It opened in 1995, and has today 145 stores on three floors. The builder and operator is the Olav Thon Group (Norwegian: Olav Thon Gruppen) which is owned by the Olav Thon Foundation (Olav Thon Stiftelsen).

Ski Station (Norwegian: Ski stasjon) is a railway station located in Ski, Norway. It is located 24 kilometres (15 mi) from Oslo Central Station on the Østfold Line, at the point where the railway splits in two into an eastern and western line. It also serves as the terminal station of the Follo Line. The station is served by all passenger trains on the Østfold Line and Follo Line. This includes regional services to Halden Station and Gothenburg Central Station, as well as Oslo Commuter Rail services to Moss Station and Mysen Station. Ski is also the terminal station for a commuter train service to Oslo that stops at all stations on the Østfold Line.The restaurant at the station was taken over by Norsk Spisevognselskap on 1 January 1921, but leased to private operators. After an agreement with Norwegian State Railways, Spisevognselskapet renovated the restaurant and took over operations again on 1 January 1924. It was closed on 14 April 1946.

Follo (old spelling Foldouge) is one of three traditional and judicional districts in the former fylke (county) of Akershus, Norway - south east of Oslo towards the former county of Østfold, the other two regions being Romerike (east of Oslo following european route E6 going east and then north in Norway) and Asker og Bærum (west of Oslo). Follo borders Oslo to the North-West, fellow Akershus district Romerike to the North-East and East, and Østfold to the south. The municipalities of Frogn and Vestby have coast lines along the Oslofjord. Ås and Oppegård have coast lines along the Bunnefjord (a part of the Oslofjord that extends south-east), and Nesodden has coast lines along both fjords. In the displayed map of Akershus, the municipalities are numbered. Follo consists of: Nesodden (13), Frogn (7), Vestby (21), Oppegård (15), Ås (22), Ski (18), and Enebakk (5). Follo covers around 819 km², and had a population of 121 368 on October 1, 2007.As with other traditional districts in Norway, Follo has no official political or administrative significance - the regional administrative entity is the fylke, while the local administrative entities are the kommuner (municipalities). It does, however, have judicional significance, as a local police and court district. It also has practical significance, as the municipalities within the district tend to cooperate for practical and economical purposes. The largest town, and de facto district capital, is Ski. This is where judicial functions such as Follo Tingrett (Follo district court) and Follo Politikammer (Follo Police District) are located, and where the cooperating municipalities tend to concentrate administrative functions and public services. All municipalities in Follo are within an hour's drive from Oslo, and large parts of the workforce actually work in Oslo. Apart from the long coastline, Follo has extensive woods and farmland, and only little industry. Most parts of Follo are well suited for outdoor activities, and many athletes have come from this district – such as Trine Hattestad (javelin), Jon Rønningen (wrestling), and Siren Sundby (sailing).
