Riemke (Bochum)

The Bochum–Gelsenkirchen railway, also known as the Glückauf-Bahn (referring to Glück auf, the traditional German miners greeting), is a passenger railway from Bochum Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) to Gelsenkirchen Central Station in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is served by Regionalbahn passenger service RB 46). It is also used by freight traffic from Bochum freight yard at the former Bochum Süd station and Bochum-Präsident to Gelsenkirchen-Schalke Nord. The line was built in sections between 1867 and 1876 of the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company. The curve connecting to Bochum Central Station was opened in 1979.

Hamme (German: Bochum-Hamme) is a part of the city of Bochum in the Ruhr area in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Up to the 19th century Westphalian was spoken here. Bochum-Hamme is a district in the working-class north of Bochum. So it is the part of Bochum with the highest number of poor families. Bochum-Hamme includes Goldhamme, the south of which borders onto the former town of Wattenscheid. Hamme houses a large Turkish minority. Some parts of Hamme, especially the so-called Speckschweiz quarter, currently experiences some gentrification attracting young middle-class families, students and artists.

Grumme is a quarter of the Westphalian city of Bochum in Germany. It is north of the city centre. Grumme has a tram line running from Gerthe to Hattingen. Grumme is world-famous because of the Starlight Express, the most-viewed musical in the world. It is famous for its parks and avenues, the German Mining Museum, many hospitals and old buildings. It is one of the wealthiest parts of the Ruhr area. Grumme houses the largest stadium in Bochum, the Ruhrstadion. The most famous inhabitants from Grumme are the chief of orthopedics in NRW, the major of Bochum and the producent of "Bochum Total", a famous German music festival.

The German Mining Museum in Bochum (German: Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum) or DBM is one of the most visited museums in Germany with around 365,700 visitors per year (2012). It is the largest mining museum in the world, and a renowned research establishment for mining history. Above-ground exhibitions, and a faithfully reconstructed show mine below the museum terrain give visitors insights into the world of mining. The main areas of research by the scientists are the History and Technology of Mining (Geschichte und Technik des Montanwesens), and the Documentation and Conservation of Cultural Artefacts (Dokumentation und Schutz von Kulturgut). As a research institute, the museum is a member of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Community.

The Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola (THGA, formerly also known as FH Bergbau and TFH Bochum) is a state-accredited, private university of applied sciences based in Bochum, Germany. It was founded in 1816 as a Bergschule (mining school) to train mining officials and mining foremen (Steiger) and, in the 20th century, grew into an engineering college and later a university. It has borne the name of the polymath and mining pioneer Georgius Agricola since 1995. Today, the institution offers 14 bachelor's and master's degree courses in the fields of geological resources and process engineering, mechanical engineering, materials sciences, electrical engineering and information technology as well as industrial engineering. During the 2017/2018 winter semester, there were roughly 2,500 students enrolled on courses at THGA, of which around 55% had registered for a part-time degree.One of the main areas of focus of THGA is research into post-mining.

Im Winkel, together with Gußstahlstraße, has been the red-light district of Bochum, Germany, since the early part of the 20th century. The local names for the street are "Eierberg", "Gurke" (cucumber, due to its length), "Riemenschleifer" (belt-grinder) or "Riemenwalzwerk" (belt rolling mill).

Hibernia 41-E and 42-E were steam locomotives of Hibernia AG. Locomotive No 42-E was scrapped, but No 41-E does still exist and was temporarily displayed in front of the Starlight Express Theater in Bochum.

Bochum ( BOHKH-uum, also US: -⁠əm, German: [ˈboːxʊm] (listen); Westphalian: Baukem), with a population of 364,920 (2016), is the sixth largest city (after Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Essen and Duisburg) of the most populous German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the 16th largest city of Germany. On the Ruhr Heights (Ruhrhöhen) hill chain, between the rivers Ruhr to the south and Emscher to the north (tributaries of the Rhine), it is the second largest city of Westphalia after Dortmund, and the fourth largest city of the Ruhr after Dortmund, Essen and Duisburg. It lies at the centre of the Ruhr, Germany's largest urban area, in the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Region, and belongs to the region of Arnsberg. Bochum is the sixth largest and one of the southernmost cities in the Low German dialect area. Innenstadt is a part of the city of Bochum in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany including Gleisdreieck. It is located in the Ruhr area, the most populous German agglomeration. It includes the central business district of Bochum. Gleisdreieck (triangle of rails) is limited by railway lines. Bochum-Innenstadt additionally has tram lines running to Wattenscheid and other parts of the city as well as to the neighbouring towns of Hattingen, Gelsenkirchen and Herne. Bochum-Innenstadt is the site of the school which Herbert Grönemeyer, the singer of the best selling German album of the 20th century, 4630 Bochum attended. Bochum-Innenstadt is the site of the Bermudadreieck (Bermuda triangle), the main and heterogeneous area of bars frequented by the youth in the Ruhr area. Innenstadt is the part of Bochum where the city hall and other public buildings as well as historical churches are situated.

Bochum-West station (German: Haltepunkt Bochum-West) is a railway station in the municipality of Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The station has a single side platform, and is situated on the Glückauf-Bahn line between Bochum and Gelsenkirchen.

Bochum Nord station was a station on the Ostring (east ring) in the city of Bochum in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was built by the Rhenish Railway Company between 1871 and 1874 and opened on 15 October 1874. The station, which was originally called Bochum Rheinisch ("Rhenish") station, for a long time served passenger and freight traffic on the Osterath–Dortmund Süd railway.East of the station building, an 11-road roundhouse was built in the freight yard, which is still preserved in parts. In 1883, the station was connected by the Bochum-Weitmar–Bochum-Nord branch of the Essen-Überruhr–Bochum-Langendreer railway to the Ruhr Valley Railway in Bochum Dahlhausen. Before the construction of the connecting curve in 1979 from the current Bochum Hauptbahnhof (main station) to the Bochum–Gelsenkirchen railway, the station was served by passenger trains in the route to Wanne-Eickel and Herne. During the period of Nazi Germany, the deportation of Jews to concentration camps in Bochum was usually held at Bochum Nord station. The locomotive depot was abandoned in 1959 and passenger services were abandoned in 1979. The second floor of the station building was closed after the Second World War for rehabilitation. Since 1979, the station building has only been used by the railway administration. The Moritz Fiege private brewery has acquired the station building so that it can be used as a restaurant and for administration.The freight yard is also the location of the main customs office of the Federal Government in the city of Bochum.
