Bochum-West station (German: Haltepunkt Bochum-West) is a railway station in the municipality of Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The station has a single side platform, and is situated on the Glückauf-Bahn line between Bochum and Gelsenkirchen.

The Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola (THGA, formerly also known as FH Bergbau and TFH Bochum) is a state-accredited, private university of applied sciences based in Bochum, Germany. It was founded in 1816 as a Bergschule (mining school) to train mining officials and mining foremen (Steiger) and, in the 20th century, grew into an engineering college and later a university. It has borne the name of the polymath and mining pioneer Georgius Agricola since 1995. Today, the institution offers 14 bachelor's and master's degree courses in the fields of geological resources and process engineering, mechanical engineering, materials sciences, electrical engineering and information technology as well as industrial engineering. During the 2017/2018 winter semester, there were roughly 2,500 students enrolled on courses at THGA, of which around 55% had registered for a part-time degree.One of the main areas of focus of THGA is research into post-mining.

Bochum ( BOHKH-uum, also US: -⁠əm, German: [ˈboːxʊm] (listen); Westphalian: Baukem), with a population of 364,920 (2016), is the sixth largest city (after Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Essen and Duisburg) of the most populous German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the 16th largest city of Germany. On the Ruhr Heights (Ruhrhöhen) hill chain, between the rivers Ruhr to the south and Emscher to the north (tributaries of the Rhine), it is the second largest city of Westphalia after Dortmund, and the fourth largest city of the Ruhr after Dortmund, Essen and Duisburg. Innenstadt is a part of the city of Bochum in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany including Gleisdreieck. It is located in the Ruhr area, the most populous German agglomeration. It includes the central business district of Bochum. Gleisdreieck (triangle of rails) is limited by railway lines. Bochum-Innenstadt additionally has tram lines running to Wattenscheid and other parts of the city as well as to the neighbouring towns of Hattingen, Gelsenkirchen and Herne. Bochum-Innenstadt is the site of the school which Herbert Grönemeyer, the singer of the best selling German album of the 20th century, 4630 Bochum attended. Bochum-Innenstadt is the site of the Bermudadreieck (Bermuda triangle), the main and heterogeneous area of bars frequented by the youth in the Ruhr area. Innenstadt is the part of Bochum where the city hall and other public buildings as well as historical churches are situated.

The Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr is a music hall for classical music. It is located in Bochum, Germany. It was opened on 28 October 2016. The building consists of three parts: an auditorium holding up to 1026 people, the entrance area in the middle (which is in the desacralized church of St. Marien), and a second hall which holds an audience of up to 250 people. The big hall is designed for symphonic concerts, the smaller one for chamber music. The hall is the home location of the Bochumer Symphoniker orchestra. The decision to build the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr was made with considerable backing from the American composer, Steven Sloane.

Bochum-Ehrenfeld station is a station in the district of Ehrenfeld of the city of Bochum in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is on the Witten/Dortmund–Oberhausen/Duisburg railway and it is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. The station was opened on 25 September 1977.The station is served by line S 1 of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn (Dortmund–Solingen) on week days every 15 minutes during the day between Dortmund and Essen.

The German Mining Museum in Bochum (German: Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum) or DBM is one of the most visited museums in Germany with around 365,700 visitors per year (2012). It is the largest mining museum in the world, and a renowned research establishment for mining history. Above-ground exhibitions, and a faithfully reconstructed show mine below the museum terrain give visitors insights into the world of mining. The main areas of research by the scientists are the History and Technology of Mining (Geschichte und Technik des Montanwesens), and the Documentation and Conservation of Cultural Artefacts (Dokumentation und Schutz von Kulturgut). As a research institute, the museum is a member of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Community.

The Schauspielhaus Bochum is one of the notable drama theatresin Germany. It is located on Königsallee in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia. Eric de Vroedt is an established guest director at the theatre.

Bochum Hauptbahnhof is a railway station for the city of Bochum in western Germany. In its current incarnation, it was built from 1955 to 1957 and is one of the most notable 1950s railway stations in Germany. The station underwent extensive remodeling and modernisation from 2004 to 2006 and was officially reopened on 29 May 2006.

The Berufsgenossenschaftliches Universitätsklinikum Bergmannsheil (Bergmannsheil University Hospitals), full German name "Berufsgenossenschaftliches Universitätsklinikum Bergmannsheil GmbH", also referred to as "Bergmannsheil", formerly known as "Bergbau-Berufsgenossenschaftliche Krankenanstalten Bergmannsheil", is a tertiary teaching hospital in Bochum (NRW, Germany). It is a hospital of the Ruhr-University Bochum and part of the University Hospitals of the Ruhr-University of Bochum. The Bergmannsheil is the world's oldest and also the largest emergency hospital.

GLS Bank (full name GLS Gemeinschaftsbank eG) is a German ethical bank that was founded in 1974 as an anthroposophical initiative by Wilhelm Ernst Barkhoff and Gisela Reuther. It was the first bank in Germany that operated with an ethical philosophy. According to GLS Bank, its focus is on cultural, social and ecological initiatives, initiated by people, and not anonymous interests seeking capital or maximum profit. The name stands for Gemeinschaftsbank für Leihen und Schenken which translates as Community bank for loaning and giving. The bank is based in Bochum, Germany, and is a co-operative. As of November 2006, the bank's total balance was EUR 645 billion. As of 31 December 2008, the balance sheet total was EUR 1,013 billion, further rising to EUR 1,847 billion as of 31 December 2010. In 2015, the bank received the first German Award for Excellence from the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Zertifizierung (German Certification Group). The award was granted to honor the bank's fair business practices. In December 2016 at the annual general assembly, about 80% of the 1200 people present at the assembly decided to introduce the GLS Beitrag.
