It is open daily except Mondays. It was closed to start renovation work in September 2020 and reopened on April 20, 2021.

The garden is located in Akatsuka's hills and contains over 600 varieties of trees and plants. The Manyo Yakuyo Garden is a Manyo Botanical Garden containing medicinal herbs mentioned in the Man'yōshū anthology.

Daito Bunka University (大東文化大学, Daitō Bunka Daigaku, lit. Great East Culture University) is a medium-size four-year university with two campuses: one at Itabashi in Tokyo and the other at Higashi Matsuyama in Saitama, Japan. The sports program is strong in rugby and distance running, with the Ekiden (駅伝 えきでん relay road race) team coming fourth in the prestigious January 2009 New Year Hakone Ekiden. Daito Bunka focuses primarily on cultural arts and humanities. It is known as one of the top calligraphy schools in the nation and one of the few universities in Japan to teach Arabic and Urdu.

Canoeing at the 1964 Summer Olympics was held between 20 October 1964 and 22 October 1964 on Lake Sagami, 60 kilometres (37 miles) from Sagamiko, Kanagawa, Japan. There were 7 events, 5 of which were for men and 2 for women. Both of the women's events were 500 metre kayaking events; there were three kayaking and two canoeing events for men, all of which covered 1000 metres. The K-4 event for men was introduced to the Olympic program at these Games, replacing the 4×500 metre K-1 event that was raced in the 1960 Games. The Romanian canoeists garnered the most medals at 5, but did not win a single gold medal. In that category the Soviet competitors were the most successful, taking three championships. The German team and the Swedish team each won a pair of golds as well.
