The University of Art and Design Linz (common short form University of Arts Linz) is one of four universities in Linz, Upper Austria. The University of Art and Design Linz (Kunstuniversität Linz) has its institutional and programmatic roots in the “Kunstschule” (Art School) of the City of Linz, which was founded in 1947, assigned academy status in 1973 and finally made a fully-fledged university in 1998. The institution was conceived as an explicit statement to signify dissociation from the previous art policy of the National Socialist era. This is in particular exemplified by its emphasis on the fundamental values of freedom of art and research, its commitment to modernism and contemporary art and the positioning of the University at the interface of free-artistic and applied-economically oriented design. In the past as in the present, these values form the basis of the fundamental essence and identity of the Kunstuniversität Linz. Since 1 January 2004, the university is constituted as a “corporation under public law” according to the new Universities Organisation Act of 2002 and hence enjoys far-reaching autonomy. In the context of the regional and international frame conditions within which Kunstuniversität Linz operates, three main orientations were evolved over the past few years. Going beyond specialist competencies per se, they are of particular importance for artistic development, research and teaching and moreover reflect the unique profile of the university.

The Atelierhaus Salzamt (lit: "Studio House Salt Authority") is a cultural institution in the city of Linz, Austria founded in 2009. Its goal is to promote and support international exchange programs in the field of visual arts. The house is located in the centre of Linz, directly on the southern bank of the Danube. It functions as an art gallery, an artists' residence, and a studio space for local and international artists.

Linz ( LINTS, German: [ˈlɪnts] ; Czech: Linec) is the capital of Upper Austria and third-largest city in Austria. Sitting on the river Danube, the city is located in the far north of Austria.30 km (19 mi) In 2018 the city had a population of 204,846 within its administrative urban area.

The Pflasterspektakel (pronounced [ˈpflastɐʃpɛkˌtakl̩], German for pavement spectacle) is an annual street art festival in Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. It includes musical acts, juggling, acrobatics, pantomime, improvisational theatre, clownery, fire dancing, painting, samba parades, as well as a programme for children, and is held on three days in July in and around the main square and the Landstraße. In 2010, about 400 artists from over forty nations participated in the event.

The Lentos Art Museum (German: Kunstmuseum Lentos) is a museum of modern art in Linz, Austria, which opened in May 2003 as the successor to the Neue Galerie der Stadt Linz (New Gallery of the City of Linz). The museum was designed by Zurich-based architectural firm Weber & Hofer. It is 130 m (430 ft) long and has approximately 8,000 m2 (86,000 sq ft) of floor space. The building's transparent glass façade is illuminated at night. It is located directly on the Danube between the Nibelungen Bridge and Brucknerhaus.

The Anton Bruckner Private University (in German Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität, common short form is Bruckner University) is one of five Austrian Universities for Music, Drama and Dance, and one of four universities in Linz, the European Capital of Culture 2009. 850 students from all parts of the world study here. They are taught by 200 professors and teaching staff, who are internationally recognised artists, academics and teachers. More than 30% of the students and instructors come from abroad. The university was granted accredited private university status in 2004, as part of the Austrian Private Universities Conference, (its name from 1932 to 2004 was Bruckner Conservatory Linz, but the roots of the institution go back to 1823 or even to 1799).The cultural landscape of Upper Austria sets an example in music education all over Europe. The Upper Austrian Provincial Government gives particular support to artistic education, which is why – compared with similar institutions – tuition fees here are extremely moderate.The university is named after the Austrian composer Anton Bruckner (1824-1896). The ABPU is a university for music, drama and dance. The artistic work of the university is focussed on performing, pedagogy and research in each of these fields, with an equal emphasis on artistic communication, development and outreach.

The Old Cathedral (German: Alter Dom), also called the Church of Ignatius (German: Ignatiuskirche) or the Jesuit Church (German: Jesuitenkirche), is a church in Linz, Austria. It was built between 1669 and 1683 in Baroque style. From 1785 to 1909 it served as cathedral of the Diocese of Linz.

The Linz State Theatre (German: Landestheater Linz) is a theatre in Linz, Austria.

The Brucknerhaus (German pronunciation: [ˈbʁʊknɐˌhaʊs] ) is a festival and congress centre in Linz, Austria named after the Austrian composer Anton Bruckner. The building was designed by Finnish architects Heikki and Kaija Siren. Its construction took place from 1969 to 1973. It opened on 23 March 1974. It holds about 200 performances per year, with about 180,000 of total audience. It is home to the International Brucknerfest Linz and the Linzer Klangwolke, two annual musical events. Brucknerhaus has three main halls: Large or Brucknersaal (named after Anton Bruckner): 1,420 seats, standing room for 150 Middle or Stiftersaal (named after Adalbert Stifter): 352 seats, standing room for 40 Small or Keplersaal (named after Johannes Kepler): 100–150 seats

The Pöstlingbergbahn (German pronunciation: [ˈpœstlɪŋˌbɛʁkbaːn] ) is a narrow-gauge electric railway, or "mountain tramway", in Linz, Austria. It connects the main square in the centre of Linz with the district of Pöstlingberg, located at the top of a hill (or small mountain) at the northern end of the city. Opened in 1898, for 110 years the metre-gauge railway ran from a terminal station in Linz's Urfahr neighbourhood, located across from the terminus of urban tram route 3, to Pöstlingberg. In 2009, service was extended from Urfahr to the city centre. To permit this change, the railway was regauged from 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) metre gauge to 900 mm (2 ft 11+7⁄16 in) and a track connection to the Linz tram network was built. Service was suspended from March 2008 until May 2009 for this work. With a maximum grade of 11.6%, the Pöstlingbergbahn is one of the steepest adhesion railways in the world. There are steeper grades on at least one other tram system, that of Lisbon, but the Pöstlingbergbahn is still among the world's steepest adhesion railways and has the steepest grade of any in Austria.

The Ursuline Church in Linz, Austria, dedicated to Archangel Michael, was built between 1736 and 1772 for the local Ursulines. It has two towers and a late baroque facade. The design was done by the architect Johann Haslinger. The church was dedicated in 1757. It is connected to the former Ursuline convent, today a cultural center.

The Catholic Private University Linz is one of four universities in Linz, the capital of Upper Austria, with approximately 500 students enrolled. Its roots go back to 1672 and it is a Papal faculty since 1978. It is an accredited private university but its tuition fees currently (as of December 2004) match those of Austria's public universities.
