Avernas-le-Bauduin Airfield (ICAO: EBAV) is a club aerodrome located near Hannut, Liège, Wallonia, Belgium. It only serves ULM planes. many of which are based there.

Château Rose ("pink castle") is a château in Orp-le-Petit in the municipality of Orp-Jauche, Walloon Brabant, Wallonia, Belgium.

Neerwinden is a village in Belgium in the province of Flemish Brabant, a few miles southeast of Tienen. It is now part of the municipality of Landen. The village gave its name to two great battles. The first battle was fought in 1693 between the Anglo-Allied army under William III of England and the French under the duke of Luxemburg, ending in a French victory. (This battle, during the War of the Grand Alliance, is usually called the Battle of Landen.) The second battle took place in 1793 between Austria under Prince Josias of Coburg and the French under General Charles François Dumouriez and ended in an Austrian victory.

The Battle of Neerwinden (18 March 1793) saw a Republican French army led by Charles François Dumouriez attack a Coalition army commanded by Prince Josias of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. The Coalition army of the Habsburg monarchy together with a small contingent of allied Dutch Republic troops repulsed all French assaults after bitter fighting and Dumouriez conceded defeat, withdrawing from the field. The French position in the Austrian Netherlands swiftly collapsed, ending the threat to the Dutch Republic and allowing Austria to regain control of its lost province. The War of the First Coalition engagement was fought at Neerwinden, located 57 kilometres (35 mi) east of Brussels in present-day Belgium. After Dumouriez's victory at Jemappes in November 1792, the French armies rapidly overran most of the Austrian Netherlands. Rather than driving the Austrians to the west bank of the Rhine River, Dumouriez and the French government became preoccupied with a war with the Dutch Republic. During the breathing space offered by her enemy, Austria assembled an army under the Prince of Coburg and struck back. After a French covering force was routed by Coburg at Aldenhoven, Dumouriez began gathering his army for a counterstroke. Coburg took up a defensive position at Neerwinden and awaited the confident Dumouriez's attack. The Coalition army was outnumbered in infantry but possessed a two-to-one superiority in cavalry. After intense fighting, Coburg's troops repulsed the attacks of the French center and right wing. When Dumouriez found that his left wing was driven off the battlefield, he began retreating. The defeat led to mass desertions from the discouraged French volunteers. In the face of the military collapse, Dumouriez negotiated a free withdrawal of French troops in return for the surrender of Belgium and Dutch territory. Soon, Dumouriez was plotting against his own government and when his plans failed, he defected to the Austrians, leaving the French army in chaos.

Crehen (Walloon: Crehin, pronounced [kʀɛ.'hɛ̃] (listen)) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Hannut, Belgium.

Bertrée (Walloon: Bietrêye) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Hannut, located in the province of Liége, Belgium. It has a surface area of 2,78 km² and has a population of 414 (1 January 2007).

Landen is a railway station in the town of Landen, Flemish Brabant, Belgium. The station opened on 2 April 1838 and is located on lines 21 and 36. The train services are operated by National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS). Landen used to be located on 127 (to Statte) and 147 (to Tamines). On 19 February 2016 a train ran away from a platform at Landen railway station after the driver left the cabin to inspect the train's mechanics. The train started moving in the direction of Tienen railway station and was stopped 30 minutes and 12 km later by a driver who jumped in the train's cab. No passengers were on the train during the incident.

Landen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈlɑndə(n)] (listen)) is a city and municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the city of Landen proper and the villages of Attenhoven, Eliksem, Ezemaal, Laar, Neerlanden, Neerwinden, Overwinden, Rumsdorp, Waasmont, Walsbets, Walshoutem, Wange and Wezeren. On January 1, 2006, Landen had a total population of 14,682. The total area is 54.05 km² which gives a population density of 272 inhabitants per km².

Hélécine (Walloon: Élessene; Dutch: Heylissem / Heilissem) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant. On 1 January 2006 Hélécine had a total population of 3,068. The total area is 16.62 km² which gives a population density of 185 inhabitants per km². The municipality consists of the following districts: Linsmeau, Neerheylissem, and Opheylissem.

The Battle of Hannut was a Second World War battle fought during the Battle of Belgium which took place between 12 and 14 May 1940 at Hannut in Belgium. It was the largest tank battle in the campaign. It was also the largest clash of tanks in armoured warfare history at the time. The primary purpose of the Germans was to tie down the strongest elements of the French First Army and keep it away from the main German attack by Army Group A through the Ardennes, as laid down in the German operational plan Fall Gelb (Case Yellow), by General Erich von Manstein. The German breakout of the Ardennes was scheduled for 15 May, five days after the German attacks on the Netherlands and Belgium. The delay was to entice the Allies into believing the main thrust would, like the Schlieffen Plan in World War I, come through Belgium and then down into France. When the Allied armies advanced into Belgium according to the Dyle Plan, they would be tied down by German offensive operations in eastern Belgium at Hannut and Gembloux. With the flank of the First Army exposed, the Germans could thrust to the English Channel which would encircle and destroy the Allied forces. For the French, the plan in Belgium was to prepare for a prolonged defence at Gembloux, about 34 km (21 mi) west of Hannut. The French sent two armoured divisions forward, to conduct a delaying action against the German advance and give the rest of the First Army time to dig in at Gembloux. The Germans reached the Hannut area just two days after the start of the invasion of Belgium but the French defeated several German attacks and fell back on Gembloux as planned. The Germans succeeded in tying down substantial Allied forces, which might have participated in the Battle of Sedan, the attack through the Ardennes. The Germans failed to neutralise the French First Army completely at Hannut, despite inflicting significant casualties. The French once again scored tactical successes at the Battle of Gembloux from 14–15 May. In the aftermath of that battle, although seriously damaged, the First Army was able to retreat to Lille, where it delayed the Germans in the Siege of Lille and was instrumental in the re-embarkation of the British Expeditionary Force, French and Belgian troops at the Evacuation of Dunkirk.

Hannut (Walloon: Haneu) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Hannut had a total population of 14,291. The total area is 86.53 km² which gives a population density of 165 inhabitants per km². The municipality consists of the following districts: Abolens, Avernas-le-Bauduin, Avin, Bertrée, Blehen, Cras-Avernas, Crehen, Grand-Hallet, Hannut, Lens-Saint-Remy, Merdorp, Moxhe, Petit-Hallet, Poucet, Thisnes, Trognée, Villers-le-Peuplier, and Wansin. The Battle of Hannut, which began May 12, 1940, is credited with being the first battle between tanks of World War II.
