Genappe

The Battle of Quatre Bras was fought on 16 June 1815, as a preliminary engagement to the decisive Battle of Waterloo that occurred two days later. The battle took place near the strategic crossroads of Quatre Bras and was contested between elements of the Duke of Wellington's Anglo-allied army and the left wing of Napoleon Bonaparte's French Armée du Nord under Marshal Michel Ney. The battle was a tactical victory for Wellington (as he possessed the field at dusk), but because Ney prevented him going to the aid of Blucher's Prussians who were fighting a larger French army under the command of Napoleon Bonaparte at Ligny it was a strategic victory for the French.

Quatre Bras ([kat.ʁə bʁɑ], French for crossroads; literally "four arms") is a hamlet in the municipality of Genappe, Wallonia, Belgium. It lies on the crossroad of the Charleroi–Brussels road (currently named N5) and the Nivelles–Namur road south of Genappe. On June 16, 1815, near the crossroads of Quatre Bras, the Battle of Quatre Bras (part of the Waterloo Campaign) was fought between contingents of the Anglo-Allied army and the left wing of the French Army. Napoleon's Last HQ (French: Le dernier QG de Napoléon) is a museum housed in the Ferme du Caillou (Caillou Farm) at Genappe, Belgium, in which the Emperor Napoleon stayed the night before the Battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815. The site is located 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) south of the Lion of Waterloo, at Chaussée de Bruxelles 66, 1472 Genappe. Travelling north, the high road passes pass over the Waterloo battlefield through Waterloo and on to Brussels.

Bousval (Walloon: Bouzvå) is a town of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Genappe, located in the province of Walloon Brabant, Belgium. Bousval is on the bank of the River Dyle.

Plancenoit (French pronunciation: ​[plɑ̃snwa]; Walloon: Planchenois) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Lasne, located in the province of Walloon Brabant, Belgium. The hamlet of Marache is on its territory. The village was a key strategic point during the Battle of Waterloo as it was the main focal point of the Prussians' successful flank attack on Napoleon's army. In June every year, the village plays host to an annual re-enactment of the battle. A monument in the village commemorates the Prussian troops who died in the battle.

Les Bons Villers (French pronunciation: [le bɔ̃ vilɛʁs]; Walloon: Les Bons Viyés) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. On 1 January 2018 the municipality had 9,457 inhabitants. The total area is 42.55 km², giving a population density of 222 inhabitants per km². The municipality consists of the following districts: Frasnes-lez-Gosselies, Mellet, Rèves, Villers-Perwin and Wayaux.

Frasnes-lez-Gosselies (Walloon: Fråne-dilé-Gochliye) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Les Bons Villers, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium.

Couture-Saint-Germain (Walloon: Coûteure-Sint-Djermwin) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Lasne, located in the province of Walloon Brabant, Belgium. The village was formed long ago. The Cistercian Abbey of Aywiers was established here in the early 13th century. Saint Lutgardis of Aywiers lived in the Abbey.

Decoster's house was a landmark location during the Battle of Waterloo. It stood on the eastern side of the Waterloo–Genappe main road south of the junction with the minor road to Plancenoit (south La Belle Alliance and north the farm of Rossomme). According to Jean-Baptiste Decoster Napoleon spent the early part of the Battle of Waterloo and around Rossomme and then at about 17:00 moved to a position near Decoster's house where he remained until about 19:00.

Villers-Perwin (Walloon: Viyé-Perwin) is a village in Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Les Bons Villers, located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. Villers-Perwin was a municipality in its own right until the fusion of the municipalities in Belgium in 1977.

La Belle Alliance is an inn situated a few miles south of Brussels in Belgium, chiefly remembered for its significance in the aftermath of the Battle of Waterloo (18 June 1815). There are two plaques on the building: one is "In memory of the French Medical Corps who attended the wounded with devotion on 18 June 1815"; and the other commemorates the meeting of the two victorious field marshals at the end of the Battle of Waterloo.
