Kirrawee High School is a comprehensive co-educational high school located in Kirrawee, New South Wales, Australia. The school was opened in 1966 and now caters for around 1,200 students, most continuing their education from three local primary schools, Gymea Bay, Grays Point and Kirrawee. The school is a Languages High School which also offers a comprehensive education in sports and in the performing arts, with musician James Morrison, who plays a concert at the school every year, a close mentor for the school's Jazz Orchestra. In the Sutherland Cronulla Education District, Kirrawee High school was second only to the academic selective high school Caringbah High School. Extra-curricular activities offered include debating and public speaking, musical and dramatic productions, the Student Council, community service, charitable collections and fund raising and many sports programs. Brett McKay, the head science teacher, has been awarded the Prime Minister's Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching.

Gymea Bay is 27 kilometres (17 mi) south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. The postcode is 2227, which it shares with the adjacent suburb of Gymea. The Gymea Bay locality takes its name from the adjoining Gymea Bay, a small bay on the north side of the Port Hacking estuary). The locality includes only the single peninsula between Gymea Bay and the North West Arm of the Port Hacking River, bounded by Coonong Creek on the north and, on the west, by an unnamed creek flowing south of Gymea Bay Road between Barraran Street and Coonong Road. Gymea Bay became a locality within the suburb of Gymea. Early street directories show the locality of Gymea Bay as part of the suburb of Gymea.In 2008, the NSW Geographical Names Board suggested a much enlarged area for a suburb of Gymea Bay, taking in much of former Gymea, north of Coonong Creek, and even part of the suburb of Miranda which are separated from the original locality of Gymea Bay and its settlement by a deep valley with no roads. This suggested new suburb's extremities are defined by Forest Road on the northeast, Avenel Road on the north, Dents Creek on the west, and the waters of North West Arm and the bay itself to the south. These suggested boundaries remain contentious as the proposal to the NSW Geographical Names Board required community consultation. The locality was characterised by large amounts of verdant bushland. However, since the 1980s, increased subdivision with smaller lots, larger houses and increased motor vehicle ownership has decreased the number of large trees. Despite Tree Preservation Orders and Council Greenweb and Greenweb Support planning zones, much of the treescape has been lost. Since the 1990s, invasions of feral deer from the Royal National Park have begun to negatively affect shrub and ground cover and regrowth of trees.

Gundamaian is a locality in the Royal National Park on the outskirts of southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located about 2.5 km southeast of Gymea Bay on the southern side of Port Hacking.

Royal National Park railway station is located in Audley, New South Wales and services travellers to the Royal National Park. It is the terminus of the Royal National Park railway line, formerly part of the Sydney commuter rail network and now operated by the Sydney Tramway Museum. The station opened in 1886 and was served by trains on the Sydney network until 1991 when the Royal National Park railway line was closed due to low patronage. The line and station were transferred to the Sydney Tramway Museum and re-opened in May 1993 for heritage tramway operations. The museum operates services on the line on Wednesdays and Sundays, with the first service running at 10:15 am. Departures are hourly from then on, with the last one at 2:30 pm on Wednesday and 4:30 pm on Sunday. It is a popular means of access to the Royal National Park.

Kirrawee is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Kirrawee is located 25 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district in the Sutherland Shire. Kirrawee lies between Sutherland, to the west, and Gymea and Grays Point, to the east. Kirrawee's southern border is formed by The Royal National Park, while Kareela and Jannali form the northern border. Kirrawee is split between commercial and residential areas. Approximately 50% of the area to the north of the train line is occupied by commercial and industrial properties, while almost all of the area south of the train line is residential. South Kirrawee, which extends from the train line in the north to the Royal National Park in the south, has many houses on quiet roads with beautiful bush outlooks. North Kirrawee is predominantly a commercial/industrial zone containing small to medium-sized factories housing local businesses. It is also home to a number of petrol stations, car dealerships and a fast food chain outlet. However, the most northerly and western sections of this part of Kirrawee are residential, with some parts also with bush outlooks.

Hazelhurst Arts Centre, also known as Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre, Hazelhurst Gallery and Hazelhurst, is an arts complex located on Kingsway in the suburb of Gymea, in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is the first public arts centre of its kind in Australia and sits on 1.4 hectares (3.5 acres) of gardens. The complex includes two art galleries, a theatrette, art studios, meeting rooms, gift shop and café as well as the gardens. The facility is also available for hire as a function centre. Hazelhurst opened on 22 January 2000. Architects for the building were Michael Bennet (of Jackson, Teece, Chesterman, Willis) in partnership with Esther and Trevor Hayter. The garden designs were by Oi Choong.

The Loftus Junction railway signal box is a heritage-listed disused railway signal box on the Illawarra line at Loftus in the Sutherland Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was built during 1886. The property is owned by RailCorp, an agency of Government of New South Wales. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

The Parish of Sutherland is one of the 57 parishes in Cumberland County, New South Wales, a cadastral unit for use on land titles. It was originally proclaimed as the parish of Southerland with an 'o', but was misspelled without it on the government gazette. It includes all of the Kurnell peninsula, with Botany Bay and the Georges River to the north; part of the Woronora River to the west; and Port Hacking to the south.
