The University of Hertfordshire (UH) is a public university in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. The university is based largely in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Its antecedent institution, Hatfield Technical College, was founded in 1948 and was identified as one of 25 Colleges of Technology in the United Kingdom in 1959. In 1992, Hatfield Polytechnic was granted university status by the British government and subsequently renamed University of Hertfordshire. It is one of the post-1992 universities. Hertfordshire is mainly based at two campuses - College Lane and de Havilland. The university has 9 schools: Hertfordshire Business School, Computer Science, Creative Arts, Education, Health and Social Work, Humanities (which oversees its CATS programme), Hertfordshire Law School, Life and Medical Sciences, Physics, Engineering and Computer Science and Hertfordshire Higher Education Consortium. As of 2022, it has around 32,000 students, including more than 13,000 international students that together represent 100 countries, making the university host the highest proportion of international students (outside of London) in England. The university is one of Hertfordshire's largest employers with over 3,400 staff, 2,045 of whom are academic members of staff. The annual income of the institution for 2021–22 was £317.5 million of which £9 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £305.3 million. Hertfordshire is a member of University Alliance, Universities UK and European University Association.

Lemsford Road Halt was a railway station on the St Albans Branch of the Great Northern Railway. The platforms are still visible next to the line of the old track, which has been converted to a cycle route and footpath, the Alban Way. The site of the station is located at grid reference TL 220 087 The station was built for the workers of the nearby de Havilland Aircraft factory. This station did not appear on railway time tables or maps during hostilities.

Nast Hyde Halt is a disused railway station in Hertfordshire. It was opened in 1910 to serve the new houses being built in the area. It is also said that a local householder, Oliver Bury, asked for the halt to be opened in order that he could use the line to commute to Kings Cross.

Hatfield Aerodrome (IATA: HTF, ICAO: EGTH) was a private airfield and aircraft factory located in the English town of Hatfield in Hertfordshire from 1930 until its closure and redevelopment in the 1990s.

Torilla is a Grade II* listed house in Wilkin's Green Lane in Hatfield, England. It was designed in 1934–35 by F. R. S. Yorke in the modernist style and has influences from Le Corbusier's Maison La Roche. This was the first building designed by Yorke.

Bishop's Hatfield Girls' School is a girls' secondary academy school available for years 7 to Sixth Form. It is located in Hatfield, Hertfordshire in Wood's Avenue and was founded in 1960 as a girls' grammar school. According to Ofsted, it has a sixth form of about 120 students and the most recent report suggests the school as 'Outstanding'. As of September 2019, the Headteacher has been Mr Wood. In the 2016 OFSTED report it got an 'outstanding' rating.

Hatfield is a town and civil parish in Hertfordshire, England, in the borough of Welwyn Hatfield. It had a population of 29,616 in 2001, 39,201 at the 2011 Census, and 41,265 at the 2021 Census. The settlement is of Saxon origin. Hatfield House, home of the Marquess of Salisbury, forms the nucleus of the old town. From the 1930s when de Havilland opened a factory until the 1990s when British Aerospace closed it, aircraft design and manufacture employed more people there than any other industry. Hatfield was one of the post-war New Towns built around London and has much modernist architecture from the period. The University of Hertfordshire is based there. Hatfield lies 20 miles (30 kilometres) north of London beside the A1(M) motorway and has direct trains to London King's Cross railway station, Finsbury Park and Moorgate. There has been a strong increase in commuters who work in London moving into the area.In 2022, TV property expert Phil Spencer named Hatfield as the second best place to live for regular commuters to London, based on train times, house prices and the attractions the town has.

Howe Dell is a 4 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Hatfield in Hertfordshire. The declaring authority is Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council. The site is woodland which runs along both sides of a stream with steep sides. The main trees are hornbeam, oak and beech. There is access from Honeysuckle Gardens.

Onslow St Audrey's School is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form situated in Hatfield, Hertfordshire in England. It specialises in business and enterprise, and is one of only two schools nationally to be awarded British Red Cross School status. Around 550 students attend Onslow St Audrey's with around 3 in the Seventh form. It caters for pupils aged 11 to 18.

Oxleys Wood is a 1.2 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Hatfield in Hertfordshire. The declaring authority is Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council. The wood floods in wet weather, particularly the northern part, which has a pond. Tree species include oak, ash, elm and willow, and they provide a habitat for insects which provide food for birds.There is access from Deerswood Avenue opposite Badgers Way.

The Hatfield rail crash was a railway accident on 17 October 2000, at Hatfield, Hertfordshire. It was caused by a metal fatigue-induced derailment, killing four people and injuring more than 70. The accident exposed major stewardship shortcomings of the privatised national railway infrastructure company Railtrack. Reports found there was a lack of communication and some staff were not aware of maintenance procedures. Railtrack subsequently went into administration and was replaced by Network Rail. The aftermath of the accident saw widespread speed limit reductions throughout the rail network and a tightening of health and safety procedures, the repercussions of which were still felt years later. In 2005, both Railtrack and the contractor Balfour Beatty were found guilty of breaching health and safety laws.
