Stimson Avenue Historic District

Angell Street is a major one-way thoroughfare on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. It was named for Thomas Angell, an early settler in Providence.

Central Congregational Church is a United Church of Christ congregation established in 1852 in Providence, Rhode Island. The current church building at 296 Angell Street was built in 1893, designed by New York architectural firm Carrère and Hastings. It is part of the Stimson Avenue Historic District. The church has a long tradition of social and community work in the Providence area, the United States and around the world.

The Governor Henry Lippitt House is a historic house museum at 199 Hope Street on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. A National Historic Landmark, it is one of the finest Italianate mansion houses in the state, and considered one of the best-preserved examples of Victorian-era houses in the US. It is notable for its association with Henry Lippitt (1818–91), a wealthy textile magnate who was the 33rd Governor of Rhode Island. The house is owned by Preserve Rhode Island, and is open to the public for tours seasonally or by appointment.

Located east of Brown University, the area is compact area developed in the mid-to-late 19th century as a residential district, with a cross-section of architectural styles from the early 19th to the early 20th century. The district is bounded on the north by Angell Street, on the east by Governor Street, on the south by Power Street, and on the west by Hope Street. Cooke Street is the main thorough fare running through the center of the district, which is six blocks long and two wide. The district abuts the Stimson Avenue Historic District, which lies immediately to its west.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Murray Stadium is a baseball venue in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. It is home to the Brown Bears baseball team of the NCAA Division I Ivy League.

On December 13, 2025, a mass shooting occurred at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, United States, during the second day of final examination week for the fall semester. The shooter, Cláudio Manuel Neves Valente, entered the Barus and Holley Building and killed two students and wounded nine other students who were attending a review session, and then fled the scene before police arrived. Two days later, on December 15, Nuno Loureiro, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology physics professor and former classmate of Valente, was fatally shot at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts. During a five-day manhunt by the FBI and local police, officials released images and videos of the perpetrator, whose identity was initially unknown to authorities. Valente was a Portuguese national with United States permanent resident status and a former graduate student at Brown University. On December 18, he was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot inside a storage unit in New Hampshire. He was found with two guns; officials said the suicide weapon was the gun used in the Brown University shooting. Law enforcement agencies alleged him to be responsible for the shooting.

The Nelson W. Aldrich House, also known as the Dr. S. B. Tobey House, is a Federal-style house at 110 Benevolent Street in the College Hill neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island. The house was the home of Nelson W. Aldrich, a U.S. Senator from 1881 to 1911. Aldrich was a dominant and controversial figure in the Senate, exercising significant control over the legislative process. This house, one of two surviving properties associated with Aldrich, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976. It is now a house museum operated by the Rhode Island Historical Society.

The Rhode Island Historical Society is a privately endowed membership organization, founded in 1822, dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing the history of Rhode Island. Its offices are located in Providence, Rhode Island.

Dexter Asylum was a "poor farm" on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island. It was built in 1828 and housed poor, elderly, and mentally ill residents who could not otherwise take care of themselves. In 1957 it was sold via auction to Brown University and demolished for a complex of athletic fields and buildings.

Stevenson-Pincince Field is a stadium in Providence, Rhode Island on the campus of Brown University. It is home to the Brown Bears soccer and lacrosse programs.
