Cheekye River

Cheekye is an unincorporated locality on the Cheakamus River just upstream from its confluence with its parent stream, the Squamish, and just north of Brackendale, British Columbia, which is part of the District of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. Formerly a passenger station on the Pacific Great Eastern Railway and home to a fishing lodge and cabins, it was named for the Cheekye River and had a post office from October 16, 1924 to August 8, 1931. It is the location of the only bridge across the Cheakamus River below the abandoned settlement of Garibaldi, leading to two roads, one northeast to the Paradise Valley neighbourhood, which lies along the Cheakamus below its canyon, and also to the main road up the Squamish Valley, leading to various Indian Reserves of the Squamish Nation and beyond to the valleys of the Elaho and other tributaries of the Squamish.

Paradise Valley is a rural-residential area north of Brackendale, British Columbia, Canada, located along the right (west) bank of the Cheakamus River. It begins just below that river's canyon, and continues downstream towards Cheekye, where the road from Brackendale crosses the Cheakamus. Located to the southwest of Brohm Lake, which is in the rocky upland on the other side of the Cheakamus and adjacent to BC Highway 99, it is largely flat and a floodplain and is home to the main facility of the Coast Mountain Outdoor School as well as the C-Dar Lodge Biodynamic facility. Many Paradise Valley residents participate at the weekly farmers market in nearby Squamish.

Squamish Airport (IATA: YSE, ICAO: CYSE) is located 5.4 nautical miles (10.0 km; 6.2 mi) north of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. Squamish Airport is a general aviation airport with a 2,400 ft (732 m) runway located about 8 km (5.0 mi) from downtown Squamish. It is used for charter services, private aircraft, flying clubs, and other commercial activities. Given its close proximity to Greater Vancouver, there is no regularly scheduled air service at the Squamish Airport. The airport was also used by the Canadian Forces as part of their preparation for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

The Cheakamus River (pron. CHEEK-a-mus) is a tributary of the Squamish River, beginning on the west slopes of Outlier Peak in Garibaldi Provincial Park upstream from Cheakamus Lake on the southeastern outskirts of the resort area of Whistler. The river flows into Cheakamus Lake before exiting it and flowing northwest until it turns south and enters Daisy Lake. Between the outlet of Daisy Lake and its mouth, much of its length is spent going through Cheakamus Canyon, where the river flows through swift rapids and even one good sized waterfall. The river flows south from the lake and through the canyon before joining the Squamish River at Cheekye, a few miles north of the town of Squamish. The river's name is an anglicization of the name of Chiyakmesh ("people of the fish weir"), a village of the Squamish people and a reserve of the Squamish Nation. The c. 70 km (c.44 mi) length of the Cheakamus is followed by British Columbia Highway 99 (the Sea-to-Sky Highway) and the British Columbia Railway. The Cheakamus is a whitewater rafting and kayaking route, and is known for its steelhead and salmon fishing. Much of the flow of the upper Cheakamus is diverted from Daisy Lake beneath the mountains to the west to the Cheakamus Powerhouse on the Squamish River. Notable just north of Daisy Lake is Brandywine Falls. The Nordic events complex of the 2010 Winter Olympics was located on Callaghan Creek, a tributary of the Cheakamus just upstream from Brandywine Creek.

Evans Lake is a small, roughly triangular lake having a perimeter of about 1.3 kilometers, on the rise between the Cheakamus and Squamish Rivers in British Columbia, Canada. The 604-acre (2.44 km2) site has been home to youth camps since 1959. For decades Evans Lake was used primarily by the Junior Forest Wardens of BC. Later, the BC Forestry Association ran summer camps for children. The summer program is a combination of ecology-based educational time and structured and unstructured leisure time. During the school year, the Evans Lake Forest Education Center offers schools, community groups, businesses and private parties independent and program-based activities at Evans Lake forest and camp.

Brackendale is a small community in the Canadian province of British Columbia just north of Squamish town centre, but still within the District of Squamish. It is located near the confluence of the Squamish River and the Cheakamus River. It is intersected primarily by Government Road and Depot Road. The CN railway (formerly BC Rail) traverses it north–south. It includes the remarkable "Eagle Run" area, the wintering home of thousands of bald eagles.

Brackendale Eagles Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada, located on the Squamish River adjacent to Brackendale, a suburban neighbourhood of Squamish. It is notable for its bald eagle population during the winter months and is inaccessible to visitors.

The Mamquam River is a c.35 km (c. 21 mi) tributary of the Squamish River.

Quest University (officially Quest University Canada) was a private, not-for-profit, secular liberal arts and sciences university. The university opened in September 2007 with an inaugural class of 73 and suspended academic operations in April 2023. The university had an enrolment of around 200 students around the time of its closing.Quest's curriculum was considered unconventional. It used the block plan, adapted and modified from the block plan at Colorado College. Students needed to complete 32 blocks to graduate. Classes were seminar-style and capped at 20 students. There were five divisions (Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Arts & Humanities, Mathematics, and Social Sciences) instead of traditional departments. In lieu of declaring a major, students wrote a personalized Question. Studies culminate in a major work called a Keystone project. Upon graduation—usually after four years study—students were awarded a degree of Bachelor of Arts and Sciences. The campus was located on a 60-acre (24.3 ha) hilltop on the edge of Garibaldi Provincial Park. It was approximately 75 km (47 miles) from Vancouver and 60 km (37 miles) from Whistler, British Columbia. Quest University Canada was fully accredited and approved by the Degree Quality Assessment Board (DQAB) under the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education. Quest was also registered as a British Columbia Education Quality Assurance (EQA) approved post-secondary institution.The university closed at the end of the 2022–2023 academic year, when all academic operations ceased.On August 16, 2023, the government of British Columbia issued a press release announcing that Capilano University had purchased Quest University's campus for $63.2M with supplemental funding provided by the government of British Columbia. The same press release specified that Capilano University plans on offering courses at the campus starting Spring 2024.

Mount Thyestes is a 1,697-metre (5,568-foot) mountain summit located in the Tantalus Range, in Tantalus Provincial Park, in southwestern British Columbia, Canada. It is situated 4 km (2 mi) immediately west of Brackendale, 7 km (4 mi) northwest of Squamish, and 10.7 km (7 mi) southeast of Mount Tantalus, which is the highest peak in the Tantalus Range. Its nearest higher peak is Omega Mountain, 2.4 km (1 mi) to the northwest, and Mount Pelops lies 3.6 km (2 mi) to the west-northwest. Precipitation runoff from the peak drains into tributaries of the Squamish River. The first ascent of the mountain was made in 1942 by R. McLellan, H. Parliament, and F. Roots. The mountain was named for Thyestes, son of Pelops and grandson of Tantalus according to Greek mythology. The mountain's name was officially adopted on June 6, 1957, by the Geographical Names Board of Canada.

The Skwelwil'em Squamish Estuary Wildlife Management Area is a wildlife management area on the south coast of British Columbia. It was established in 2007 for the management of fish species was well as terrestrial wildlife. The wildlife management area is on the traditional territory of Squamish Nation, which is involved in management of the area. The freshwater of the Squamish River mixes with the saltwater of Howe Sound, resulting in a varied ecosystem containing different habitats that support an abundance of wildlife. It also provides natural flood control for the Squamish town sites.
