Lavington is a residential suburb of Nairobi. Located within the sub-county of Westlands, it is approximately 5.5 km (3.4 mi) northwest of the central business district. It is a neighbourhood that hosts the high middle-income to high-income segment of Nairobi residents. It is a low to medium-density residential neighbourhood. The bulk of the area now known as Lavington was originally the St Austin's Mission established by the French Holy Ghost Fathers. The Kirichwa tributary of the Nairobi River runs through the community.

Strathmore School is Kenya's first multi-racial school, established in 1961 in the Lavington area of Nairobi. It began as a residential Sixth Form College offering British-styled A-level courses and in 1963 switched from the Cambridge School Certificate Examination to the London GCE. In 1977 it became a full-fledged Secondary school. In 1988, the school began offering education under the KCSE - Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education - curricula which it follows to date. The first batch of Primary school students (6-7 year olds) entered in 1987. It no longer has any boarders.

The Kenya High School is a public girls' high school located on Mandera Road in the upmarket Kileleshwa suburb of Westlands Sub-County in Kenya's capital city, Nairobi. The school, which follows the national curriculum, is one of Kenya's 112 national schools and also one of the 18 prestigious Cluster III secondary schools. Located on a 150-acre campus some six Km from the Central Business District, the institution caters for 1500+ students who attend Forms 1-4 (= US grades 9-12) in seven streams, at the end of which the students sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams. It is primarily a boarding school and accepts day-scholars on a case-by-case basis. Kianda School is a private, all-girls day school with a Catholic ethos located in the Westlands area of Nairobi, Kenya. The school was opened in 1977 by The Kianda Foundation, a non-profit organisation that aims to better Kenyan women's lives through education and Christian values. The school began with 40 students but has now grown to a student body of about 830 in both its primary and secondary school sections.

The Nairobi School is a national secondary school in Nairobi, Kenya. It was founded in 1902 by the British settlers who had made Nairobi their home after the construction of the Uganda Railway. In 1925, Lord Delamere and Sir Edward Grigg, then Governor of Kenya, separated the European Nairobi School into a senior boys' school (Prince of Wales School), a senior girls' school (Kenya High School) and a junior school (Nairobi Primary School). In 1931, a new school was built on the 1-square-kilometre (250-acre) site at Kabete, the main school buildings being designed by Herbert Baker. The school was then named the Prince of Wales School but in 1965, following Kenya's independence, it was renamed Nairobi School. The school is popularly referred to as 'Patch'.
