Castilleja School is an independent school for girls in grades six through twelve, located in Palo Alto, California. Castilleja is the only non-sectarian all-girls middle and high school in the San Francisco Bay Area. The faculty consists of approximately 70 full-time and part-time women and men. Castilleja is a member of the California Association of Independent Schools and the National Coalition of Girls' Schools.

The Pettigrew House is a historic house located at 1336 Cowper St. in Palo Alto, California. Architect George Washington Smith designed the Spanish Colonial Revival house, which was built in 1925. Smith, best known for his work in Santa Barbara, is credited with popularizing Spanish Colonial Revival architecture in California. The house is "L" shaped with one story in the front and two on the rear wing; it has a white stucco exterior with a red tile roof. The two front windows are covered with iron grilles. French windows in the back of the house open to a garden and paved patio. A decorative system of wooden beams supports the living room and dining room ceilings, and decorative tiles cover the floors of most first-floor rooms.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 25, 1980.

The Norris House is a historic house located at 1247 Cowper St. in Palo Alto, California. The house was built in 1927 for Kathleen Norris, a novelist and columnist who was once the highest-paid female author in the United States, and her husband Charles Gilman Norris, also a noted novelist. Kathleen Norris' novels featured female characters who represented her ideals of motherhood and moral virtue; her columns appeared in major magazines and included both short stories and advice columns. Charles Gilman Norris wrote novels which touched on contemporary social issues and served as Kathleen's agent.In 1949, the Diocese of San Francisco purchased the house to serve as the Newman Center for Stanford University. Around 2000 the house was sold into private hands again.Architect Birge Clark designed the Spanish Colonial Revival house. At the time, the house was Clark's largest and most expensive design. The house's layout features several one- and two-story sections surrounding a patio. The house is built from white stucco with a tile roof; handcrafted ironwork and woodwork is used in the beams and decorations.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 24, 1980.

The Theophilus Allen House is a historic house in Palo Alto, California, U.S.. It was built in 1905 for Theophilus Allen, the founder of the Palo Alto Christian Science Church. It was designed in the American Craftsman style by architect Alfred W. Smith. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 20, 1999.

Professorville is a registered historic district in Palo Alto, California that contains homes that were built by Stanford University professors. The historic district is bounded by Kingsley and Addison avenues and the cross streets of Ramona and Waverley. The community considers the district to be larger and bounded by Addison and Cowper St. to the north west and north east and Emerson St. and Embarcadero Rd. to the south west and south east.

Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo is located in Palo Alto, California and part of the City of Palo Alto's Community Services Department (CSD). It was founded in 1934 by Josephine O’Hara in the basement of a local elementary school. The small zoo holds approximately 200 species of mostly indigenous wildlife such as bobcats, raccoons, hedgehogs, ducks, bats, snakes and more. The museum has an interactive scientific exhibition that is changed every few years. They offer science classes to local students, over 14,000 students a year.In December 2017, Palo Alto's City Council unanimously approved plans for a $25 million reconstruction project. The museum is expected to re-open to the public in 2020.

The HP Garage is a private museum where the company Hewlett-Packard (HP) was founded. It is located at 367 Addison Avenue in Palo Alto, California. It is considered to be the "Birthplace of Silicon Valley". In the 1930s, Stanford University and its Dean of Engineering Frederick Terman began encouraging faculty and graduates to stay in the area instead of leaving California, and develop a high-tech region. HP founders Bill Hewlett and David Packard are considered the first Stanford students who took Terman's advice.The garage has since been designated a California Historical Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Though not open for public tours, the property can be viewed from the sidewalk and driveway.

Stanford station is a Caltrain station in Palo Alto, California, near the stadium on the Stanford University campus. It is not a regular stop; instead, it is only in service for Stanford football home games and other large events at the stadium. The usual stop for the university is the Palo Alto station. The station does not have ticket vending machines; however, when in use, Caltrain staff will be present with handheld Clipper card readers so people can tag on and off.Service to the station has existed since at least 1922 (one year after Stanford Stadium opened). In 1994, an estimated 20% of the visitors to the 1994 FIFA World Cup games at Stanford arrived by train.

Palo Alto Senior High School, known locally as "Paly", is a comprehensive public high school in Palo Alto, California. It is one of two schools in the Palo Alto Unified School District, the other being crosstown Gunn High School, for which the school has a rivalry with. A two-time National Blue Ribbon School, Palo Alto Senior High School was founded in 1898 and is one of the oldest high schools in the region. The school's property is adjacent to Stanford University, who provided the land for the school.

Palo Alto Medical Clinic, also known as the Roth Building (structure built in 1932) was a former medical clinic. The building is located at 300 Homer street, at the corner of Bryant street in Palo Alto, California. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Santa Clara County, California since 2010. The building is a good example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, and has historical relevance for the Palo Alto community, art history, and medical history.

The Pedro de Lemos House, also known as Hacienda de Lemos and Waverley Oaks, is a historic house in Palo Alto, California. It was built from 1931 to 1941 for Pedro Joseph de Lemos, a painter, printmaker, illustrator and architect. Lemos also served as the director of the Stanford University Museum of Art from 1918 to 1947. The approximately 9,000 square foot house was design and built by Lemos, from 1931 until 1941.The house is designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival architectural style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since January 10, 1980.In 2005, the house was purchased by entrepreneur Larry Page and is a private residence.

Town & Country Village is an outdoor shopping center in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County, California, United States, opened in 1953. The shopping center is at the corner of El Camino Real and Embarcadero Road, opposite Stanford University and Palo Alto High School. The land was previously a Mexican land grant, Rancho del Arroyo de San Francisquito, which was divided into smaller lots after it passed to heirs of the original grantee. The mall land was a 14-acre (5.7 ha) parcel that had come to be known as "the Greer property." The design allowed the preservation of 70 to 100 mature oak trees. The buildings were constructed, in part, from salvaged fir and redwood logging trestles built in the early 1840s further north in the state. There was originally 100,000 ft2 (9,300 m2) of retail space and 1,200 parking spaces. The developer was Palo Alto resident Ronald Williams (1908–2001), and the construction company was Bayshore Construction. Williams developed three other "outdoor retail centers" around the same time, including at sites in nearby San Jose and Sunnyvale. The San Jose location was built in 1959 in the same architectural style at the intersection of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Winchester. The mall was marketed as having "the leisurely atmosphere of the Old West" while being "easy to get to" with "over 1,000 parking spaces." Early tenants included AE Cramer's Toy Box, Hinkley's Fine Men's Wear, Stickney's Hick'ry House, and Edy's Ice Cream Shop. By 1957 there were 75 shops open in the mall, and a "Town & Country Playtown for kids, with a car ride, merry-go-round, and train exhibition." A sandwich shop called the Village Cheese House was in business from 1959 until 2019. By the late 1990s two anchor tenants—the Hickory House and John's Town & Country Market grocery store—had closed and their spaces had languished unrented; critics argued that "the center's old-time feel, signs and marketing [had become] more tired than nostalgic." Williams died in 2001, and Ellis Partners bought the mall from his heirs in 2004. In 2005 there was 171,000 ft2 (15,900 m2) of office and retail space.
