Powell River is a city on the northern Sunshine Coast of southwestern British Columbia, Canada. Most of its population lives near the eastern shores of Malaspina Strait, which is part of the larger Georgia Strait between Vancouver Island and the Mainland. With two intervening long, steep-sided fjords inhibiting the construction of a contiguous road connection with Vancouver to the south, geographical surroundings explain Powell River's remoteness as a community, despite relative proximity to Vancouver and other populous areas of the BC Coast. The city is the location of the head office of the qathet Regional District.

Brooks Secondary School is a high school in Powell River, British Columbia part of School District 47 Powell River. Recent expansion to the school added a 100 by 50 meter turf field. Brooks is also home to the Max Cameron Theatre, a 500-seat two level proscenium theatre.

SS Peralta is a concrete floating breakwater in Powell River in British Columbia. She was built as a concrete oil tanker by the San Francisco Shipbuilding Company, and was launched in February 1921. The ship is 128 m long, with a beam of 15.4 m and has a volume of 6,144 GRT. Her sister ship is SS Palo Alto. She was acquired in 1924 and converted into a sardine cannery in Alaska. After spending 24 years in this role the ship was moored off Antioch, California. She was bought by Macmillan Bloedel in 1958 and moored as part of a giant floating breakwater in Powell River to protect the company's log storage pond. She is the oldest and largest American-built concrete ship still afloat. With the downsizing of operations at the pulp mill in late 2000, it was proposed to sink the Peralta as an artificial reef, but this was later rejected.

The first USS South Dakota (ACR-9/CA-9), also referred to "Armored Cruiser No. 9", and later renamed Huron, was a United States Navy Pennsylvania-class armored cruiser. South Dakota was laid down on 30 September 1902 by the Union Iron Works, San Francisco, California, she was launched on 21 July 1904; sponsored by Grace Herreid, daughter of Charles N. Herreid, Governor of South Dakota, and commissioned on 27 January 1908.

Powell River Mill was a pulp mill and paper mill located in the Canadian town of Powell River, British Columbia. Part of Catalyst Paper, the mill has three paper machines which produce 469,000 tonnes of newsprint and uncoated fine paper. The mill had 441 employees as of 2014.The mill was established by The Powell River Company in 1912 as the first manufacturer of newsprint in Western Canada. By 1913 it had two paper machines, and four by 1917. The Powell River Company was merged into MacMillan Bloedel in 1960. Ownership passed to Pacifica Papers in 1998, which was again bought by Norske Skog Canada in 2001, becoming Catalyst Paper in 2005. Now closed permanently.

Cranberry, formerly Cranberry Lake, is a community and neighbourhood within Powell River, British Columbia, Canada. It was incorporated as the Village of Cranberry Lake in 1942 and was merged into Powell River in 1955 as that District Municipality was expanded. The settlement's original name derives from the lake of the same name, around which grew cranberries on the peat-rimmed shoreline. Because there was another Cranberry Post Office in British Columbia, the word "lake" was retained in the name of both post office and the village municipality although it has since been dropped since amalgamation into what is now the City of Powell River.

Van Anda, formerly spelled Vananda, is an unincorporated settlement on Texada Island in the northern Gulf of Georgia in British Columbia, Canada. As of 2021, it has a population of approximately 362 people. The surrounding region incorporates Blubber Bay and Gillies Bay.

Blubber Bay is an unincorporated settlement on the northern end of Texada Island at the bay of the same name in the northern Gulf of Georgia on the South Coast of British Columbia, Canada. The ferry from Powell River docks at Blubber Bay, which sits beside quarry offices, pits and workings which stretch up the hill. The north rim of the bay has the disused workings of BC Cement Company with dock, work area, and various pits stretching out to the headland. There is a museum and archives and a small store located above the ferry landing.

Ahgykson Island, formerly Harwood Island, is a small island off the coast of Powell River, BC. It is an indian reserve and part of the traditional territory of the Sliammon First Nation.
