Fairbanks Ranch is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, California. The population was 3,148 at the 2010 census, up from 2,244 at the 2000 census. The entire population is contained within two gated communities, divided into North and South sections by the formerly private San Dieguito Road. The Fairbanks Ranch community borders Rancho Santa Fe to the northwest, the Rancho Santa Fe Farms gated community to the south and the Del Sur housing development of Black Mountain Ranch to the east. The San Dieguito River and Lusardi Creek with the Lusardi Creek County Preserve lie to the north.

The Bernardo Fire was a wildfire that occurred during the May 2014 San Diego County wildfire outbreak. The Bernardo fire was the second of the May 2014 wildfires in San Diego County, and the first of the swarm of wildfires that ignited in mid-May, following dry weather and Santa Ana conditions. The fire ignited in 4S Ranch in San Diego County, on May 13, near Del Norte High School, and eventually spread southward and westward, burning 1,548 acres (6 km2) of land. The Bernardo Fire was extinguished on May 17, without causing any significant property losses.

Black Mountain Ranch is a suburban community in the northern part of the city of San Diego, California 92127. Black Mountain Ranch encompasses 5,100 acres (21 km2) and is located north of Rancho Peñasquitos and Torrey Highlands, south of the Santa Fe Valley, east of Fairbanks Ranch and Rancho Santa Fe, and west of 4S Ranch. The development of Black Mountain Ranch took over 17 years to complete and was led by Fred Maas, a local San Diego businessman with a background in politics and sustainable building practices. Black Mountain Ranch primarily consists of two separate housing developments known as Santaluz and Del Sur. Santaluz is the area in the southern half of Black Mountain Ranch while Del Sur comprises the northern half. Primary access to the community is via Camino Del Sur (from State Highway 56 via Interstates 5 or 15), Carmel Valley Road, San Dieguito Road (from Rancho Santa Fe) and Camino Del Norte (from Interstate 15). There is a city park, South Village Neighborhood Park, near Willow Grove Elementary School at 14756 Via Azul, San Diego, CA 92127, located just a block off Camino del Sur. There is also the Black Mountain Open Space Park off Carmel Valley Road at Black Mountain Road, east of Camino del Sur. The area is served by Poway Unified School District (PUSD) and includes Del Sur Elementary School (opened 2008), Willow Grove Elementary and Del Norte High (opened 2009). The nearest shopping areas are 4S Ranch to the north, Carmel Mountain Ranch to the east, Torrey Highlands to the south, and Pacific Highlands Ranch to the west. Del Sur Town Center opened in October 2015. The area is part of San Diego City Council District 5, served by Marni von Wilpert. It falls under the Rancho Penasquitos Planning Board, and holds two seats on the board.

Rancho Santa Fe is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, California, United States, within the San Diego metropolitan area. The population was 3,156 at the 2020 census. The CDP is primarily residential with a few shopping blocks, a middle and elementary school, and several restaurants. Rancho Santa Fe borders the Fairbanks Ranch gated community to the southeast, Solana Beach to the southwest, and Encinitas to the west.

Rancho San Dieguito was a 8,824-acre (35.71 km2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Diego County, California given in 1845 by Governor Pío Pico to Juan María Osuna. The rancho property was renamed Rancho Santa Fe in 1922 by the Santa Fe Land Company.

Lake Hodges is a lake and reservoir located within the city limits of San Diego, California. It is about 31 miles (50 km) north of Downtown San Diego, just north of the Rancho Bernardo community, and just south of the city's border with Escondido. When full, the reservoir has 1,234 acres (4.99 km2), a maximum water depth of 115 feet (35 m), and 27 miles (43 km) of shoreline. Lake Hodges has a total capacity of 30,251 acre-feet of water. Lake Hodges is owned by the city of San Diego, supplies water to the San Dieguito Water District and Santa Fe Irrigation District, and its mailing city address is Escondido. Water level elevation in the lake is maintained at a maximum of 295 feet (90 m) above sea level, 20 feet (6.1 m) lower than the dam's maximum of 315 feet (96 m) spillway to ensure safe operations. The lake level can fluctuate significantly, depending upon the amount of runoff received from the San Dieguito River drainage basin.Interstate 15 crosses Lake Hodges via the Lake Hodges Bridge. Approximately 1,000 feet (300 m) west of the I-15 freeway bridge is a bicycle/pedestrian bridge which opened on May 15, 2009, and is the longest stressed ribbon bridge in the world.

Torrey Highlands is a primarily residential community in northern San Diego, California. Most of the community has been developed from 2000 to present.

Westview High School is a public high school located in Torrey Highlands, a community of San Diego, California in the United States. It is part of the Poway Unified School District. Westview uses a 4 by 4 block schedule for each school year. Under this system, the school year is divided into four quarters, as opposed to semester and trimester systems, allowing each student to complete up to eight classes each year. Westview is accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Its CEEB school code is #052-986.Westview is nationally recognized Blue Ribbon school. In 2022, Westview ranked #421 of 17,843 US high schools by the US News Best High Schools ranking.

Black Mountain Open Space Park is a city park located in the suburbs of San Diego, California.

Christmas Card Lane is a holiday light display in San Diego, California in the community of Rancho Penasquitos. It is one of the most famous holiday displays in San Diego. Residents erect giant plywood greetings in their front yards depicting cartoon characters, religious images, or Christmas themes.

Bumann Ranch is a ranch in Encinitas, California. Previously owned by German colonists, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 6, 2020. Currently, the ranch contains twenty buildings on its 10 acres of land.
