Clogau Gold Mine

Bontddu (meaning Black bridge) is a small settlement just east of Barmouth, near the town of Dolgellau in Gwynedd, Wales. It is in the community of Llanelltyd.

Borthwnog is a family name given to the Borthwnog estate in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. Borthwnog Hall was the Manor House of the estate which encompassed the adjacent Borth farm and lands up the Taichynhaeaf valley and Bontddu. The earliest records date the house to the late 17th century. The building, has been modified to a Georgian style and has, along with many other buildings in the area, been listed as a grade II listed building.

Penmaenpool (Welsh: Llynpenmaen) is a hamlet on the south side of the estuary of the River Mawddach in Wales, near Dolgellau. A Grade II listed toll bridge provides access across the estuary for light vehicles.

Penmaenpool railway station at Penmaenpool in Gwynedd, North Wales, was formerly a station on the Dolgelly [sic] branch of the Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway, part of the Ruabon to Barmouth Line. It closed to passengers on Monday 18 January 1965. It had two platforms and a passing loop, plus an engine shed approximately half a mile west of the station next to the former fireman's house. According to the Official Handbook of Stations the following classes of traffic were being handled at this station in 1956: G, P, F, L, H & C and there was no crane.

Diffwys is a mountain in Snowdonia, Wales, near Barmouth and forms part of the Rhinogydd. On the north side is an exposure of the Caerdion Syncline. It is technically a subsidiary summit of Y Llethr, missing Marilyn status by 2m. It is therefore a sub Marilyn. The summit has a trig point. To the north is Y Llethr and Crib-y-rhiw, to the east is Y Garn, to the south is Cadair Idris, and to the west is its top Diffwys West Top.

Diffwys West Top is a top of Diffwys in Snowdonia, North Wales, near Barmouth and forms part of the Rhinogydd. It is a grassy summit found on the west ridge. The summit is marked with a pile of stones, below which is the crags of Craig Bodlyn and the glacial lake, Llyn Bodlyn. Moelfre is to the north.

For other hills of the same name, see Y Garn (disambiguation). Y Garn is a mountain in the southern Snowdonia, Wales, north of Dolgellau. It is an outlier of the Rhinogydd range, rising above the Coed-y-Brenin forest and the Rhaeadr Du waterfalls. An abandoned gold mine lies on its eastern slopes and Diffwys (750m) can be seen to the north from the summit.

The River Wnion is a river in the southeast of Gwynedd, Wales. It begins high on the slopes of Aran Benllyn about five miles south of Lanuwchllyn and flows south-west into the River Mawddach near Cymer Abbey. It flows past several villages, including Rhyd-y-main and Bontnewydd, where a bridge crosses over the river that dates from the 18th century. It then flows to Dolgellau where another locally famous bridge, known as "Y Bont Fawr". Its total length is approximately 12 miles. The river may get its name from 'White' which turned from "gwyn" (white) into "gwn" (gun); indeed, there is a place called 'Pennar(th) Gwynion' in the vicinity, near Hengwrt.

Y Llethr is the highest mountain in the Rhinogydd range of Snowdonia, in north Wales. The summit consists of a flat grassy top marked only by a small cairn. The summit is more in keeping with its southern flanks than its rugged northern approach. The shortest route to the summit goes from the valley of Cwm Nantcol in the west, either directly or via Bwlch Drws Ardudwy and over the mountain of Rhinog Fach. To the south lies the mountain of Diffwys, to the south-east lies the mountain of Y Garn, to the north lies Rhinog Fach and to the west lies the hill of Moelfre.

Crib-y-rhiw is a top of Y Llethr and a ridge in the Rhinogydd of Snowdonia, north Wales. The summit straddles a thin ridge connecting Y Llethr to Diffwys.

Llyn Gwernan is a lake in Gwynedd, Wales and an important geological site, notable for an unusual thickness of Devensian Late-glacial organic deposits.

The Rhinogydd (a Welsh plural form, often anglicised as Rhinogs and also known by the alternative Welsh plural Rhinogau) are a range of mountains located east of Harlech in North Wales. The name Rhinogydd derives from the names of two of the more famous peaks, Rhinog Fawr and Rhinog Fach, although the greatest elevation in the range is reached by Y Llethr, 756 m (2,480 feet). Foel Penolau, the northernmost summit of the range, was promoted to a Hewitt in 2018 due to a new survey. The Rhinogydd are notably rocky and heather-clad towards the northern end of the range, especially around Rhinog Fawr, Rhinog Fach and towards Moel Ysgyfarnogod. The southern end, around Y Llethr, Diffwys and the Ysgethin Valley has a softer, grassy character. A population of feral goats are in the range. Over 30 km² are protected as a Special Area of Conservation and a National Nature Reserve.
