Wray-with-Botton

Wray is a small village in Lancashire, England, part of the civil parish of Wray-with-Botton, in the City of Lancaster district. Wray is the point at which the River Roeburn joins the River Hindburn.

Twicket (a portmanteau of Twitter and Cricket) was a village cricket match, streamed world-wide on the Internet on Easter Monday, 25 April 2011, with the intention of highlighting the need for high-capacity upstream broadband to enable community content provision. The River Hindburn is a river in Lancashire, England. The Hindburn rises at Thrushgill where three smaller streams (namely Whitray Beck, Middle Gill and Dale Beck) combine. The river proceeds northwards past Lowgill to Wray where it merges with the River Roeburn before carrying on to meet the River Wenning in Hornby Park.

The River Roeburn is a river in Lancashire, England. Sourced at Salter Fell, the Roeburn flows northwards through Roeburndale to Wray, where it falls into the River Hindburn. Flash flooding of the river in 1967 caused substantial damage to the village of Wray.

Wray railway station was a short-lived station near the village of Wray in the City of Lancaster district of Lancashire, England. The station was opened on a temporary basis by the "Little" North Western Railway on their route between Skipton and Lancaster, and was closed after just ten months of operation in the summer of 1850. The station was a single-building cottage and was administered by John Bee until 1891.The line remained in use until closure to passengers in 1966 between Wennington and Morecambe Promenade. Freight services finished the following year in 1967 and the track was subsequently dismantled. The old formation has since been returned to agricultural land. The course of the route can still be followed from nearby roads and on satellite images, with several overbridges still standing.

Tatham is a village and civil parish in the City of Lancaster district in Lancashire, England. In 2001, it had a population of 393, increasing slightly to 396 at the 2011 Census.A large part of the parish of Tatham is an upland area, known as Tatham Fells, which includes the largest settlement in Tatham, Lowgill; its highest point, at Ward's Stone; and the Great Stone of Fourstones, known locally as "the Big Stone".

The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It stands above the flood plain of the River Wenning.

Hornby Castle is a country house, developed from a medieval castle, standing to the east of the village of Hornby in the Lune Valley, Lancashire, England. It occupies a position overlooking the village in a curve of the River Wenning. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.

Hornby railway station served the village of Hornby in the City of Lancaster district of Lancashire, England. The station was located in a cutting off Station Road and was constructed by the "Little" North Western Railway' opening with the line in November 1849 (though through traffic towards Skipton and beyond didn't commence until the following summer). The line eastwards towards Wennington was doubled soon after opening but westwards to Lancaster, it remained single track until 1889. It was closed to passenger traffic in September 1957 by the British Transport Commission due to declining usage. The line remained in use until closure to passengers in January 1966 between Wennington and Morecambe. Freight services finished the following year in June 1967 and the line was later dismantled. Much of the route has since been returned to agricultural use. The station site is now occupied by a housing development, though the formation either side can still be traced.

Hornby Village Institute is a public building in Main Street, Hornby, Lancashire, England. It is considered to be important architecturally, and is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Just west of Wennington railway station was Wennington junction where the Furness and Midland Joint Railway left the North Western section of the Midland Railway. On 11 August 1880 the 12:15 Leeds to Lancaster train completely derailed at the junction points then continued for 166 yards (152 m) before striking the abutment of a bridge. The junction had no super-elevation as continuous crossing timbers were in use thus reducing the safe speed, and the Midland Railway were advised to correct this. But the enquiry also found the braking power of the train to be grossly inadequate; the train should have been able to stop before reaching the bridge. Only the locomotive was fitted with a Westinghouse brake and there was only one brake van on the train. Although the Midland Railway was fitting continuous brakes to its passenger trains the enquiry pointed out that such a recommendation had been made twenty years previously and the actions had still not been completed.
