Staley and Millbrook railway station

Stayley Hall, also known as Staley Hall, is a Grade II* Listed Building in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester. The structure dates back to at least the early 15th century. The first records of the de Stavelegh family as Lords of the Manor of Staley date from the early 13th century. Stayley Hall was their residence Stayley Hall is referred to in the diaries of Sir Ralph Staley (Stavelegh) in the early 15th century. The hall was originally timber framed, but was stone-clad during the 17th century. It is situated on a knoll making defence of the building a relatively easy affair. The external walls and the roofing slabs are made from locally quarried gritstone. The inside of the building has been altered as parts of it were let as cottage tenements and the plaster has fallen off showing the original lattices of wicker work and clay daub. Part of the staircase still remained in 1871 although the floor was dilapidated even then. Sir Ralph Staley had no male heirs and after his death his daughter, Elizabeth Staley, married Sir Thomas Assheton, uniting the manors of Ashton and Staley. Elizabeth and Thomas had no sons. Margaret, the eldest of their two daughters married Sir William Booth of Dunham Massey The younger daughter Elizabeth was widowed and without children. She continued to live at Stayley Hall until her death in 1553. In her will she left her share of the lordships of Ashton and Staley to the Booths. The hall remained in the possession of the Booth family until the death of George Booth, 2nd Earl of Warrington on 2 August 1758. Upon his death, the Earldom of Warrington became extinct. His only daughter, Lady Mary Booth, who was the wife of Harry Grey, 4th Earl of Stamford, inherited all the Booth estates. The hall was then owned by the Grey family until the extinction of the Earldom of Stamford on the death of Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford in 1976. John Wesley visited Stayley Hall in 1745 and a commemorative stone tablet was placed on the Hall's wall around the time of the visit. In 2004 the Metropolitan Borough Council announced that they had granted permission to a developer to build 16 homes next to Stayley Hall. A condition of the planning consent was that the hall be restored. The developer has converted the hall and outbuildings into houses and apartments, most of which are now occupied.

Millbrook is a village near Stalybridge, northwest England. It is part of the Stalybridge South ward of Tameside metropolitan borough. It also played a huge part of the industrial revolution, as the name suggests, several cotton mills once existed, in and around the village, Bottomleys mill was in one of the first ever steam driven mills. Millbrook suffered from the Storm Angus, 21 Nov 2016 when 3 inches (7.6 cm) of rain fell on Tameside in five hours.

Stalybridge North is an electoral ward of Tameside, England. It is represented in Westminster by Jonathan Reynolds Labour Co-operative MP for Stalybridge and Hyde.

Heyrod () is a village in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England, between Stalybridge and Mossley. Historically in Lancashire, Heyrod was subsumed into the Municipal Borough of Stalybridge in 1881, a local government district which became part of the administrative county of Cheshire in 1889. Heyrod is the site of the former Hartshead Power Station. There is a village hall.

Copley is an area of the town of Stalybridge, at the foot of the Pennines, 8 miles (13 km) east of Manchester in Greater Manchester, England. The area has a local secondary school, Copley Academy, which is attached to a local recreational centre and swimming pool.

Copley Academy (formerly Copley High School) is a coeducational secondary school with academy status. It is located in the Copley area of Stalybridge in the English county of Greater Manchester.Previously a community school administered by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, Copley High School converted to academy status on 1 February 2013 and was renamed Copley Academy. The school is now part of the Great Academies Education Trust which also includes Great Academy Ashton in Ashton-under-Lyne and Silver Springs Primary Academy in Stalybridge.Copley Academy offers GCSEs, BTECs and Cambridge Nationals as programmes of study for pupils. The school also has specialisms in mathematics and ICT.

Carrbrook is a village east of Stalybridge, in Cheshire, Greater Manchester, England. The area still has many seventeenth and eighteenth-century buildings. Much of the late-nineteenth and the early-twentieth-century village was built during the industrial boom brought by the printworks. In the 1970s modern Housing estates were built next to the old village on the lower flank of Harridge Pike. The view to the east of Carrbrook is dominated by the steep-sided Buckton Hill, on the summit of which is located Buckton Castle. Neighbouring communities include Millbrook, Heyheads and Mossley. Many properties in Carrbrook were threatened by a large wildfire burning on Buckton Moor in late June 2018. The fires burned for several weeks and the damage caused is still visible to this day. On 26 June 2018, 50 properties in Carrbrook were evacuated as the fire advanced towards the settlement. Carrbrook is now part of a high fire risk zone. On the 27th December 2023 at approx. 23:10 GMT, a tornado hit the village during Storm Gerrit - the strongest in the UK since 2006. Heavy damage was done to some structures, however no deaths were recorded.

Stalybridge () is a town in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England, with a population of 23,731 at the 2011 Census.Historically divided between Cheshire and Lancashire, it is 8 miles (12.9 km) east of Manchester city centre and 6 miles (9.7 km) north-west of Glossop. When a water-powered cotton mill was constructed in 1776, Stalybridge became one of the first centres of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. The wealth created in the 19th century from the factory-based cotton industry transformed an area of scattered farms and homesteads into a self-confident town.

Walkerwood Reservoir is a reservoir in the Brushes valley above Stalybridge in Greater Manchester, built in the 19th century to provide a supply of safe drinking water. It is owned and operated by United Utilities. The revetment was increasing vulnerable to wave action so has been strengthened by filling existing holes in the concrete with lean sand asphalt (LSA) and overlaying with open stone asphalt (OSA).

Heyheads is the easternmost area of Stalybridge, in Greater Manchester, England. The area includes the sixteenth century Grade II listed Nos 1, 2 and 3 Moorgate Farmhouse and adjoining barn and shippon buildings. Boundary cottages mark the boundary between Stalybridge and Mossley and the historic boundary between Cheshire and Lancashire. Modern Housing was built on Huddersfield Road in the 1970. With a further estate built close to Moorgate in the 1990s. The view to the south is dominated by the steep-sided Buckton Hill, on the summit of which is located Buckton Castle. Stamford Golf Club has an 18-hole course to the North of Huddersfield Road. The club was incorporated on Saturday 24 August 1901 and like the only pub in Heyheads, The Stamford Arms, was named after the local Landowner the Earl of Stamford.
