Greenbackville, Virginia

Franklin City is an unincorporated community in Accomack County, Virginia, United States. Greenbackville and neighboring Franklin City grew as a result of the railroad line laid in the late 19th century to transport oysters and other shellfish from Chincoteague to Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City. By the 1870s, the Frankfort and Worcester Railroad reached Snow Hill, Maryland. In 1876, Maryland judge John R. Franklin, a stockholder in the railroad, was able to get the line extended to land he owned just south of the state line in Virginia. Later, the New York, Philadelphia and Norfolk Railroad built track the length of the Delmarva Peninsula, reaching Cape Charles in 1884 and joining the Frankfort & Worcester. After the construction of the Chincoteague Causeway, the Depression and the nor'easter of 1962 continued to erode Franklin City's and Greenbackville's economic base. Little remains of Franklin City.

Captains Cove is a census-designated place in Accomack County, Virginia. Per the 2020 census, the population was 1,544. Known as Captain's Cove Golf & Yacht Club, it is a recreational community located on the west shore of Chincoteague Bay, bordering Maryland to the north. While numerous families with children live here, it's largely a retirement community, with a median age of 51 and the largest age group being 60–64.

George Island Landing is an unincorporated community in Worcester County, Maryland, United States. George Island Landing is located at the eastern end of Maryland Route 366 on Chincoteague Bay.

Captain Timothy Hill House is a historic home located at Chincoteague Island, Accomack County, Virginia. It was built about 1800, and moved to its present location in 1980 when faced with demolition. It is a 1+1⁄2-story dwelling that was built using pit sawn and hewn pine planks and measures 17 feet, 4 inches, by 16 feet, 4 inches. It currently sits on a low brick pier foundation. It has a modern roof featuring a steep side gable with wood shingles and weatherboard. The house has a wooden chimney that represents the first period of this house and features carvings of sailing ships of the period on the exterior log walls. It is significant as a rare surviving example of log plank construction still existent in Virginia, possibly the oldest remaining house on Chincoteague Island, and one of the few houses remaining in Virginia which at one time had a wood chimney. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Chincoteague High School is a public high school in Accomack County, Virginia. It is one of the four high schools in Accomack County Public Schools. It serves grades six through twelve and, due to its low number of students, has only approximately 40 students per grade. An approximate total of 280 students attend the school. Its mascot, the pony, is named after the feral Chincoteague Ponies on the nearby Assateague Island.

The Watson House is a historic U.S. home located at 4240 Main Street, Chincoteague, Virginia. The house represents a notable example of the Chincoteague architectural style. The Watson family lived in Chincoteague for many generations and Robert Watson and his son David Robert Watson built this house in 1898. The Watson family co-founded the first organized Pony Penning event in 1925 on Chincoteague. The house currently serves as bed and breakfast.

The Chincoteague Island Library is a historic U.S. building located at 4077 Main Street, Chincoteague, Virginia. Built in the 1890s, this one-story building is the oldest commercial wood frame structure in Chincoteague. It was initially a drug store, but was later used as a barber shop beginning in 1908. On July 4, 1995, the building opened as a public library. In 2010, a new wing was added to the library to accommodate its collection and offer more space for patrons to use. Originally 600 square feet, the library has tripled in size with the addition of the new wing.The library is part of the Eastern Shore Public Library system. It is primarily supported by private donations and grants from the communities of Accomack County, Virginia. The library offers various programs for children and adults throughout the year, including book clubs, children's reading programs, and computer classes.The library's collection contains current and popular books, magazines, newspapers, and audio-visual materials, including DVDs, audiobooks and CDs. The library offers a 24-hour wireless internet connection, with computers for patrons to use for email, word processing, and use of the web. The Chincoteague Island Library also collaborates with the Museum of Chincoteague Island on the Chincoteague Island Life History Project. This project began in 2004 as an oral history initiative, where residents of Chincoteague Island and neighboring communities were interviewed on the local culture and history.

The Island Theatre is a historic U.S. building located at 4074 Main Street, Chincoteague, Virginia. It still serves as an operational movie theater. Originally named Island Theatre, the theatre was renamed Island Roxy from the 1980s until the name was reverted to Island Theatre in 2013.

Island Creamery is a chain of ice cream parlors located on the Delmarva Peninsula. In 2014, TripAdvisor ranked Island Creamery as the #1 Ice Cream Parlor in the United States.

The Chincoteague Fire Department is located at 4026/4028 Main Street, Chincoteague Island, Virginia. This building was initially constructed in 1930 and expanded in 2019. The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company operates from this building with approximately 25 active and 85 life members with (4) pumper engines, (1) 75 foot ladder, (1) rescue truck and (2) advanced life saving ambulances. The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department owns the Virginia Herd of Chincoteague Ponies on the Virginia side of Assateague Island. It also conducts the annual Pony Penning to help raise money for the department. The other herd is the Maryland Herd on the Maryland side of Assateague Island, owned by the National Park Service. On October 21, 2022, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne Youngkin presented the Spirit of Virginia Award to the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company.

Chincoteague ( or ) is a town in Accomack County, Virginia, U.S. The town includes the whole of Chincoteague Island and an area of adjacent water. The population was 2,941 at the 2010 census. The town is a tourist gateway to the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge on adjacent Assateague Island, the location of a popular recreational beach and home of the Virginia herd of Chincoteague Ponies. These ponies and the annual Pony Swim are the subject of Marguerite Henry's 1947 children's book Misty of Chincoteague, which was made into the 1961 family film Misty, filmed on location.
