Avdi Square (Greek: Πλατεία Λέοντος Αυδή) is a public gathering place located in the Metaxourgeio neighbourhood of Athens, Greece, bounded by Leonidou, Kerameikou, Giatrakou and Germanikou streets. On the edges of the square stand the Municipal Gallery of Athens, several cafes, theatres, businesses and residential buildings. The City of Athens renovated the square in 2008, increasing the amount and quality of greenery, improving lighting and renewing tile surfaces. Since then, the square has also begun to bear signs of the neighbourhood’s steady revitalization by its residents through anonymous artwork, guerrilla gardening, festivals, and performances of dance, music and other artistic expression. The square’s 2008 overhaul was part of the city’s “We're Taking Note and Taking Action" program, which aimed to solve everyday problems in Athens' neighbourhoods. In Avdi Square, the city added 39 trees, 112 bushes, 500 flowers, 1,000 square metres of grass, and 271 square metres of new tile surface. On 21 July 2008, following the completion of the renovation, Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis held a public ceremony to hand over the square to the area's citizens for caretaking and use as a recreational oasis. "This square will become the heart of culture and recreation in your neighbourhood,” he said during the launch of the revamped space.The square is named for Leon Avdis (1937–2000), a Greek lawyer and public servant who enjoyed wide respect across the political spectrum. In 1994 he was elected Municipal Councillor of Athens as head of the "Fighting Cooperation for Athens" coalition. Avdis was elected to Parliament in 1996 on the Greek Communist Party (KKE) ticket, then resigned in 1997 to run for mayor of Athens. His platform including improving living conditions in run-down areas and creating bicycle lanes in the capital.

Keramikou 28 is a neoclassical building in Athens, Greece, in the Metaxourgeio district on Keramikou 28 Street. The building has undergone various names, including ReMap, Kunsthalle Athena, and Communitism. It was used as a social art center between 2007 and 2023 by three different initiatives, each occupying it during separate periods, closely resembling the Kunsthaus Tacheles in Berlin. In 2017, it received significant attention among artists, serving as an artist hub for a community of national and international artists who had relocated to Athens during Documenta 14. The building was transformed into an arts center and used for exhibitions, performances, and initiative projects. It served as a venue to the Athenian subculture art scene, both for emerging and established artists to exhibit their work and engage in creative pursuits outside traditional galleries and museums.

Metaxourghio metro station is on Athens Metro Line 2. It is located west of Omonoia Square.

Kerameikou 28, also known as Communitism building, was a social art center in Athens, Greece. It was housed in a neoclassical structure located at the heart of the Greek capital in the Metaxourgeio district on Kerameikou 28 Street. Functioning as a self-managed social center, it drew together a community of national and international artists who relocated to Athens during Documenta 14 in the Metaxourgeio district. The transformation of the building into an artists hub elevated its status in the Athenian subculture art scene. It provided a venue for both emerging and established artists to exhibit their work and engage in creative pursuits outsied traditional galleries and museums. The building came to symbolize the vibrant artistic community of the city, hosting a variety of exhibitions, performances, and initiative projects. In May of 2023, Kerameikou 28 came to an end after disputes with the property owners surfaced as a result of the gentrification of the surrounding area . Consequently, the building was evacuated with the intent of listing it on the real estate market. Presently, Kerameikou 28 stands as a symbol of the contemporary art scene in Athens, encapsulating its radical spirit through the myriad exhibitions, performances, and projects that have unfolded within its historic confines.

Metaxourgeio or Metaxourgio (Greek: Μεταξουργείο pronounced [me.tak.suɾˈʝio]), meaning "silk mill", is a neighbourhood of Athens, Greece. The neighbourhood is located north of the historical centre of Athens, between Kolonos to the east and Kerameikos to the west, and north of Gazi. Metaxourgeio is frequently described as a transition neighbourhood. After a long period of abandonment in the late 20th century, the area is acquiring a reputation as an artistic and fashionable neighbourhood due to the opening of many art galleries, museums, and trendy restaurants and cafes. Moreover, local efforts to beautify and invigorate the neighbourhood have reinforced a budding sense of community and artistic expression. Anonymous art pieces containing quotes and sayings in both English and Ancient Greek have begun springing up throughout the neighbourhood, containing statements such as "Art for art's sake" (Τεχνη τεχνης χαριν). Guerrilla gardening has also helped to beautify this area, taking advantage of the ample sunshine in Greece. The heart of the neighborhood is Avdi Square, which draws residents and visitors with its open space, greenery, periodic festivals and gatherings, and adjacent restaurants, theatres and art gallery.

The St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral (Greek: Καθεδρικός Ναός του Αγίου Γρηγορίου του Φωτιστού) also called Armenian Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator is an Armenian Catholic cathedral located at 2 Rene Pio, Neos Kosmos in Athens, Greece. It functions as the seat of the Armenian Catholic Ordinariate of Greece a jurisdiction created for Catholics of the Armenian rite that was established in 1925 by Pope Pius XI and directly under the administration of the Holy See. Currently the ordinariate is vacant so it does not have a bishop responsible. Father Hovsep Bezazian is the apostolic administrator.

The Etz Haim Synagogue is located in the Thiseio area of Athens, at Melidoni Street 8, across from its largest and youngest Sephardic synagogue, Beth Shalom. It was built in 1904 by Greek Romaniote Jews who came from Ioannina, and for this reason it is also called the "Romanian" or "Yannonian" synagogue by the oldest members of the community. The first Jewish Community of Athens in the modern era was formally established in 1889 and before the first congregation was built, informal galleys were operating, such as the house of the Yusurum family at the junction of Ermou and Karaiskakis streets, while another is testified that it was operating on Ivy Street. The synagogue suffered serious damage from the 1999 earthquake, mainly on the roof, which was radically renovated in 2006 and officially opened on 30 June 2007 by the Jewish Community of Athens. However, due to renovation, architectural interventions took place inside it and this created objections. The Etz Chaim Synagogue only works during the great religious celebrations of the Jewish Community, and on the regular basis for all religious ceremonies is the central synagogue of Athens, Synagogue Beth Shalom. Both synagogues are managed by Rabbi Gabriel Negrin, who was elected by the council of Athens’ Jewish community following the death of the longtime leader Jacob Arar in 2014.

Kerameikos (Greek: Κεραμεικός, pronounced [ce.ɾa.miˈkos]) also known by its Latinized form Ceramicus, is an area of Athens, Greece, located to the northwest of the Acropolis, which includes an extensive area both within and outside the ancient city walls, on both sides of the Dipylon Gate and by the banks of the Eridanos River. It was the potters' quarter of the city, from which the English word "ceramic" is derived, and was also the site of an important cemetery and numerous funerary sculptures erected along the Sacred Way, a road from Athens to Eleusis.

The Centre for the Study of Traditional Pottery, also known as Psaropoulos Museum of Traditional Pottery and as Study Centre for Contemporary Ceramics is a museum in Athens, Greece. The study centre was established in 1987 to research, preserve and promote the production of traditional Greek ceramics. Since 1999 it has been located in a neo-classical building at 8 Hepitou Street in Plaka and was officially inaugurated on May 18, 2000, International Museum Day. The museums' collection, consists of some 4500 vases and tools from all over the country.

Beth Shalom Synagogue (Hebrew: בית כנסת בית שלום) is the principal synagogue of Athens, Greece. It was built in 1935 of white Pentelic marble, the architecture is an austere Greek Revival style; the building was renovated in 1975. The synagogue is managed by Rabbi Gabriel Negrin, who was elected by the council of Athens’ Jewish community following the death of the long time leader Jacob Arar in 2014.

The Second Siege of the Acropolis in 1826–1827 during the Greek War of Independence involved the siege of the Acropolis of Athens, the last fortress still held by the Greek rebels in Central Greece, by the forces of the Ottoman Empire.

Cerameis or Kerameis (Ancient Greek: Κεραμεῖς) was a deme of ancient Attica, located in the center of Athens, northeast of the Dipylon Gate, which extended both inside and outside the city walls. In its territory lay an important necropolis.
