Ennore

Periya Kuppam is a fishing village near Ennore in Chennai of Tamil Nadu state in the peninsular India.

Katthivakkam is an residential and industrial area located in the northern part of Chennai. It is a part of zone 1 in Greater Chennai Corporation. It is under Thiruvottiyur taluk in Chennai district. It is a part of Thiruvottiyur(state assembly constituency) and Chennai North (Lok Sabha constituency). Formerly a town and a municipality of Thiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, it has now been absorbed by Chennai city in September 2011 and within Chennai District limit since January 2018. The neighbourhood is served by Katthivakkam railway station. As of 2011, the town had a population of 36,617.

The Ennore Thermal Power Station is a coal based power plant located in Chennai Ennore, Tamil Nadu.

Ennore Creek is a backwater located in Ennore, Chennai along the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. It is located in the zone comprising lagoons with salt marshes and backwaters, submerged under water during high tide and forming an arm of the sea with the opening to the Bay of Bengal at the creek. The zone is spread over an area of 4 km2, and the creek covers an area of 2.25 km2. It is located 20 km north of the city centre and 2.6 km south of the Ennore Port, and the creek area stretches 3 km into the sea and 5 km along the coast. The creek is nearly 400 m wide, elongated in northeast–southwest direction and merging with the backwater bodies. Once a flourishing mangrove swamp, the creek has been degraded to patches in the fringes mainly due to human activities in the region. The depth of the creek varies from 1 to 2 m and is shallow near the mouth. The north–south trending channels of the creek connect it with the Pulicat Lake to the north and to the distributaries of the Kosasthalaiyar River in the south. The northwestern part of the creek merges with the tidal flats. The soil in the region is of loamy and alluvial types. Most of the area consists of tracts of alluvial soil and the eastern region comprises beach dunes, tidal flats and creek. The creek is oriented from west to east and opens into the Bay of Bengal to the east at Ennore. The creek acts as an outlet for the excess water from the Poondi reservoir. The creek separates the town of Ennore from the Ennore Port located in the north and the Kattupalli Shipyard located further north. The North Chennai Thermal Power Station is located at the north of the creek and the Ennore Thermal Power Station is located to the south. The creek is part of the Pulicat water system, including the Pulicat lagoon and the Buckingham Canal. As per the 1991 Coastal Regulation Zone notification, the entire Pulicat water system is designated CRZ I. The creek is experiencing siltation due to emergence of the Ennore Port.

Vallur Thermal Power Station is a power plant located in Vallur, Thiruvallur district, India. The power plant is operated by NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy Company Limited, a joint venture between NTPC Limited and TANGEDCO and has three units with 500 MW each.In January 2014, the units in the power plant achieved a record generation of 24.09 million units (kWh) of electricity. The project adds nearly 24 million units a day to the grid. Tamil Nadu is the major beneficiary of power generated from this facility (about 750 MW), while some of it is supplied to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry.The plant will consume 4.62 megatonnes (4,550,000 long tons; 5,090,000 short tons) of coal a year. Coal for the plant will be brought from Orissa through ship to Ennore Port, from where it will be transported by pipe conveyor crossing Ennore Creek.

The North Chennai Thermal Power Station is a power station situated about 25 kilometres (16 mi) from Chennai city. It is one of the major power plants of Tamil Nadu and has a total installed capacity of 1,830 MW (2,450,000 hp).

Ernavoor, also spelled Ernavur, is a revenue village in Tiruvottiyur taluk of North Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It lies in the postal area of Ennore Thermal Station, with pincode 600057. It lies between Ennore and Manali. It is part of Frist Chennai Corporation Zone, and has many industries such as ITC, Wimco etc. Ernavoor got its name from Erneeswaran (Shiva) temple in this area. Most of the people in this settlement belong to working class employed in adjacent factories like ITC, Wimco, Ashok Leyland and Ennore Thermal Power Station. There is a famous Murugan Temple and Selva Vinayagar temple in this area.

Kamarajar Port Limited, formerly Ennore Port, is located on the Coromandel Coast, Chennai about 18 km north of Chennai Port. It is the 12th major port of India, and the first port in India which is a public company. The Kamarajar Port Limited is the only corporatised major port and is registered as a company. Chennai Port Trust acquired around 67% stake of Centre in the Kamarajar Port Limited on 27 March 2020. The remaining 23 percent was already held by the Chennai Port Trust.The port has been able to attract an investment of ₹26,000 million by private entrepreneurs on various terminals and harbour craft. Kamarajar Port Limited, designed as Asia's energy port, is the first corporatised port in India and has only 86 employees. Envisaged being a satellite port to decongest and improve the environmental quality at the bustling Chennai Port, Kamarajar Port Limited is evolving itself into a full-fledged port with the capacity to handle a wide range of products. With a permissible draught of 13.5 m, the port handled a total volume of 11.01 million tonnes in 2010–11, up by 2.86 per cent from the previous year.

Wimco Nagar Depot Metro station is a Metro railway station on Line 1 Extension of the Chennai Metro. The station is one of the 10 stations in the Phase I northern extension and one of the 26 stations along the Blue Line (Chennai Metro) of the Chennai Metro. The station will serve the neighbourhoods of Ernavur and other northern suburbs of Chennai. This station was inaugurated along with Thiruvottriyur Theradi Metro Station on 14 March 2022.

Wimco Nagar railway station is one of the railway station of the Chennai Central–Gummidipoondi section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. It serves the neighbourhood of Tiruvottiyur, a suburb of Chennai, India, and is located 11 km north of Chennai Central railway station. It has an elevation of 9 m above sea level.
