Hilgay railway station

Ouse Bridge railway station was a railway station in Norfolk, England.

The River Wissey is a river in Norfolk, eastern England. It rises near Bradenham, and flows for nearly 31 miles (50 km) to join the River Great Ouse at Fordham. The lower 11.2 miles (18.0 km) are navigable. The upper reaches are notable for a number of buildings of historic interest, which are close to the banks. The river passes through the parkland of the Arts and Crafts Pickenham Hall, and further downstream, flows through the Army's Stanford Training Area (STANTA), which was created in 1942 by evacuating six villages. The water provided power for at least two mills, at Hilborough and Northwold. At Whittington, the river becomes navigable, and is surrounded by fenland. A number of pumping stations pump water from drainage ditches into the higher river channel. Although navigation is known to have taken place since at least the time of the Domesday Book, there is less documentary evidence than for other neighbouring rivers, as there was no centre of population at the head of the navigation. A sugar-beet factory was built on the banks in 1925 at Wissington, which could only be accessed by river or railway, and started a period of relative prosperity, which ended in 1943, when the first road to reach the factory was built. All use of the river is now by pleasure craft.

Modeney Priory—also spelled Modney and Modeny—was a Benedictine priory in the civil parish of Hilgay, Norfolk, England. Located less than a mile east of the River Great Ouse, Modeney Priory was a cell of Ramsey Abbey. Modeney Priory was founded before 1291 and dissolved c. 1536. Its former location is now occupied by Modney Hall farmhouse. According to field research undertaken by Historic England in 1976: "There are no surface structural remains of the priory. Modney Hall has an 18th/19th century brick cased exterior, but according to a former owner parts of the interior date to the 15th [century]." On 18 April 1544, the Priory was granted to Robert Hagan, who licensed it to James Hawe on 4 February 1545. Francis Blomefield in his An Essay Towards a Topographical History of the County of Norfolk (1807) writes the following succession of owners: "from the Hawes, it came to the Willoughbys; and by Catherine, a daughter of Sir Henry Willoughby, to the Purefoys, and to the Greys, and the Astons, as in Southrey, and is now in Sir Robert Burdet."

Black Horse Drove is a linear hamlet that lies 7 miles (11 km) north-north-east of Ely in Cambridgeshire, England in the civil parish of Littleport . Black Horse Drove is located off the Ten Mile Bank, a long road which runs alongside the north-western bank of the river Great Ouse between Littleport and Southery in Norfolk. Black Horse Drove is in the Fens and much of the village is around 6 feet (1.8 m) below sea level. The estimated population of Black Horse Drove in 2010 was 220 in 93 dwellings.

Denver railway station (originally opened as Denver Road Gate) was a station in Denver, Norfolk on the Great Eastern Railway route between King's Lynn and Cambridge, commonly known as the Fen Line. It was also the beginning of a small branch to Stoke Ferry.

The River Little Ouse, also known as the Brandon River, is a river in the east of England, a tributary of the River Great Ouse. For much of its length it defines the boundary between Norfolk and Suffolk. It rises east of Thelnetham, close to the source of the River Waveney, which flows eastwards while the Little Ouse flows west. The village of Blo' Norton owes its name to the river: it was earlier known as Norton Bell-'eau, from being situated near this "fair stream". In this area the river creates a number of important wetland areas such as at Blo' Norton and Thelnetham Fens, and areas managed by the Little Ouse Headwaters Project. The course continues through Rushford, Thetford, Brandon, and Hockwold before the river joins the Great Ouse north of Littleport in Cambridgeshire. The total length is about 37 miles (60 km). The river is navigable from the Great Ouse to a point 2 miles (3.2 km) above Brandon.

Southery is a village and civil parish in Norfolk, England, which covers an area of 18.12 km2 (7.00 sq mi) and had a population of 1,324 at the 2011 Census. For local government purposes, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. The village's name means 'southerly island'.

Well Creek is a waterway in Norfolk, England that is a tributary to the River Great Ouse. Rising from the River Nene, the waterway in its current alignment dates to the 12th century; it flows through the villages of Upwell, Outwell, Nordelph and ends at the hamlet of Salters Lode. It is actively maintained by the Well Creek Trust, which was formed on 23 March 1970 on a decision of the Norfolk County Council after plans were made to disband the waterway. Alongside being a popular waterway for mooring, it is also used for fishing and an annual raft race, where entrants build their own home-made rafts out of miscellaneous items and materials.

Hilgay is a village and civil parish in Norfolk, England, 4 miles (6 km) south of Downham Market. The parish covers an area of 33.38 km2 (12.89 sq mi) and had a population of 1,341 at the 2011 Census. For local government purposes, it falls within the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk.

Fordham is a small village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. The village is located 2.2 miles (3.5 km) north of Downham Market and 39 miles (63 km) west of Norwich, located along the A10 between London and King's Lynn and close to the confluence of the River Wissey and River Great Ouse.

Denver Windmill is a Grade II* listed tower mill at Denver, Norfolk, England. In March 2010, there were about 374,000 list entries of which 5.5% were Grade II* and even fewer were superior.

St Mary's Church is located to the south of the village of Fordham, Norfolk, England. It is a redundant Anglican parish church in the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.
