KTVN (channel 2) is a television station in Reno, Nevada, United States, affiliated with CBS. Owned by Sarkes Tarzian, Inc., the station maintains studios on Energy Way in Reno, and its transmitter is located on Slide Mountain in unincorporated Washoe County.

KRNO (106.9 FM, "Sunny 106.9") is a commercial radio station, licensed to Incline Village, Nevada, and broadcasting to Reno, Carson City, and surrounding areas, including Lake Tahoe. It is owned by the Reno Media Group and airs an adult contemporary radio format. For much of November and December, it switches to all-Christmas music. The station's studios are located on Matley Lane in Reno, and its transmitter is located on Slide Mountain. KRNO has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 35,000 watts. KRNO also rebroadcasts on FM translators K258BN in Verdi at 99.5 FM to cover northwest Reno and K292EP in Incline Village at 106.3 FM to cover the northern Lake Tahoe area.

KLCA (96.5 FM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Tahoe City, California, broadcasting to the Reno, Nevada, and Lake Tahoe areas. KLCA airs a Top 40 (CHR) music format branded as "Alice 96-5". The station, part of Tom Quinn's Reno Media Group, operates with a transmitter atop Slide Mountain overlooking Reno, Carson City and Lake Tahoe, and its studios are located on Matley Lane in East Reno. KLCA was also the fictional Los Angeles radio station featured at the beginning of the Robert Downey Jr. film, Air America. KLCA is licensed by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast in the HD (hybrid) format.

KWYL (102.9 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to South Lake Tahoe, California, and serving the Reno metropolitan area. The station broadcasts in full 5.1 digital surround sound and has a Top 40 (CHR) radio format. It is owned by Cumulus Media. The studios and offices are located on Plumb Lane in South Reno. KWYL has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 39,000 watts. The transmitter is in New Washoe City, Nevada, near Slide Mountain, amid the towers for other Reno-area FM and TV stations. Programming can also be heard on a 250 watt FM translator, 106.1 K291AA in Battle Mountain, Nevada.

KODS airs a classic hits music format branded as "The River" (a local reference to the Truckee River). KOZZ-FM (105.7 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Reno, Nevada. It is owned by Lotus Communications and it airs a classic rock format. On weekday evenings, it carries the syndicated Nights with Alice Cooper Show. KOZZ's studios are on Plumb Lane in South Reno, and its transmitter is atop Slide Mountain in New Washoe City. Programming is also heard on FM translator K293AA at 106.5 MHz in Battle Mountain, Nevada.

KSRN (107.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to Kings Beach, California, United States. The station serves the Reno area. The station is currently owned by Lazer Licenses, LLC. KSRN airs a regional Mexican music format branded as "Radio Lazer".

Mount Rose Ski Tahoe is a ski resort in the western United States, in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Reno, Nevada. The closest resort to the city, it is located about thirty miles (50 km) south-southwest of Reno, in the Carson Range. It has the highest base elevation of a Tahoe-region ski area, at about 8,260 ft (2,520 m) and the summit is 9,700 ft (2,955 m). The resort area is 1,200 acres (4.9 km2) and is located in Toiyabe National Forest.Despite the name, the resort is actually on the slopes of Slide Mountain rather than Mount Rose, which is on the other side of Nevada State Route 431. It opened 71 years ago in 1953 as the "Reno Ski Bowl" on the east face of Slide Mountain. The inaugural NCAA Skiing Championships were held there in March 1954, hosted by the University of Nevada, with the downhill won by Wolf Pack senior Pat Meyers. Later renamed to the "Slide Mountain Ski Area", it operated side-by-side with the "Mount Rose Ski Area", which opened in 1964 on the mountain's north side; the two areas merged in 1987.December 2004 saw the opening of The Chutes at Mount Rose, which offer some of the steepest, consistent terrain in all of Tahoe.In 2018, the Buser family (majority shareholders since 1972) decided to keep the resort, after having it on the market.

Tamarack Peak is a 9,897-foot-elevation mountain summit located in Washoe County, Nevada, United States.

The 1954 NCAA Skiing Championships were contested at the first annual NCAA-sanctioned ski tournament to determine the individual and team national champions of men's collegiate alpine and cross-country skiing in the United States. This championships were held March 4–7 at Slide Mountain outside Reno, Nevada, hosted by the University of Nevada.Denver finished ahead of Seattle to claim the team championship; the Pioneers were coached by Willy Schaeffler. Nevada senior Pat Myers won the downhill, edging out Olympian Darrell Robison of Utah.
