Higham Ferrers

The Higham Ferrers school shooting was a shooting that occurred on 6 January 1988 at The Ferrers School, Higham Ferrers, England in which a 16-year-old student of the school, Darren Fowler, having been expelled in late 1987, took a 12-gauge shotgun to school in an attempt to kill his romantic rival. He injured two teachers and two twelve-year-old students before being subdued and disarmed by staff.

The Ferrers School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire, England, UK. The school was founded in 1980. It previously held specialist status as an Arts College, and changed its name to The Ferrers Specialist Arts College for a time. After converting to academy status in September 2013 the school changed its name to The Ferrers School. The headteacher is Angela Smith. There were approximately 930 students in Years 7 to 11 on the roll in the 2011–2012 academic year, plus around 160 students in the sixth form, which became independent in September 2023. There are 77 teachers (full-time equivalent) and 54 support staff.

Higham Ferrers is a former railway station on the Higham Ferrers branch line from Wellingborough. It served the market town of Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire, England. The station was opened by the Midland Railway on 1 May 1894, and was named Higham Ferrers. It was renamed Higham Ferrers and Irthlingborough on 1 July 1902, but reverted to its original name on 1 October 1910. It was closed by British Railways on 15 June 1959. The line was closed in 1969, and the station has since been demolished and the track lifted. It is the eventual aim of the Heritage Rushden, Higham & Wellingborough Railway to reopen the line to Higham Ferrers from its base at Rushden station.

Higham Ferrers Town Hall is a municipal building in the Market Square in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire, England. The structure, which serves as the offices and meeting place of Higham Ferrers Town Council, is a Grade II listed building.

Chichele College is a former medieval chantry college situated in Higham Ferrers, in Northamptonshire, England. Chantry colleges were founded primarily in the 14th and 15th centuries in England. Chicele College was established in the early 15th century by Henry Chichele, Archbishop of Canterbury as a religious learning community for secular canons. The college was seized by Henry VIII in 1542 and many of the buildings were demolished. The remaining buildings were used as an inn during the 18th century and were later converted into farm buildings. The site was designated a scheduled monument in 1981. The surviving structural remains include standing buildings, foundations of walls and buildings, and a rare walled garden which dates to 1425.

Rushden and Higham Town Cricket Club is an amateur cricket club based in Rushden, Northamptonshire, England. Rushden have 3 senior XI teams in the Northamptonshire Cricket League, and an established Junior Section, who compete in the Higham & District Youth League. Rushden also field a Sunday XI team who play friendly matches in and around the region.

The Town Ground in Rushden is a cricket ground which was used by Northamptonshire County Cricket Club in 22 first-class matches for 39 years between 1924 and 1963. It is now used predominantly for Northamptonshire Premier League games, serving as the home ground of 2015 Northamptonshire Cricket League Premier Division Champions Rushden and Higham Town Cricket Club since 2003.

Rushden & Higham United F.C. is a football club based in Rushden, Northamptonshire, England. They are currently members of the Spartan South Midlands League Division One.

A.F.C. Rushden & Diamonds is an English football club based in Rushden in Northamptonshire. They played their opening season at Kiln Park, the home of Raunds Town, in 2011–12 and subsequently shared the Dog & Duck ground with Wellingborough Town from July 2012 to the summer of 2017. A groundshare agreement with Rushden & Higham United was agreed for the 2017–18 season. The club was formed by supporters in July 2011, after Rushden & Diamonds, a former Football League club, were expelled from the Football Conference and liquidated.At an open meeting chaired by a supporters group called SaveRDFC, a mandate was agreed upon to create a phoenix club, fully owned and controlled by its supporters. A team was created and accepted into the Northants Senior Youth League for the 2011–12 season, while a senior team played in the United Counties Football League Division One for the 2012–13 season. They are currently members of the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands.
