Hillsborough is an unincorporated community in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. Hillsborough is close to the northern tip of Prince George's County, 2.9 miles (4.7 km) west-northwest of Laurel.

West Laurel is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 4,428.

Scaggsville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is situated near the southeastern tip of Howard County, between Laurel and Fulton. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 24,333. The town mainly consists of residences, with some commercial establishments. Scaggsville generally falls within ZIP code 20723, assigned to Laurel, though the town formerly had its own post office. At the 2000 census the Scaggsville area was counted as part of the North Laurel census-designated place.

Reservoir High School is a public high school in Fulton, Maryland, United States. It was opened in 2002 and is a part of the Howard County public school system. The school is named for its proximity to the Rocky Gorge Reservoir. The school's mascot "Gators" was selected by vote in 2001, with school colors of Orange and Blue. The logo and fight song were the same as those of the University of Florida. In 2010, a cease and desist order was issued by the University, forcing the school to create a new logo.The school is located on Maryland Route 216, just west of U.S. 29 on 101 acres (0.41 km2) shared with Fulton Elementary School, Lime Kiln Middle School, and Cedar Lane School. Reservoir follows the same general design as Long Reach High School and Marriotts Ridge High School. Neighboring Howard County schools include Atholton High School, River Hill High School, and Hammond High School. Feeder schools for Reservoir include Hammond Middle School, Murray Hill Middle School, Patuxent Valley Middle School, and Lime Kiln Middle School. Reservoir is also well known for its work with and support for students at Cedar Lane School.

Waters–Fulton Store and Post Office, also known as Water's Store, Fulton, is a historic home located in Fulton, Howard County, Maryland. The Post office and Store served as the center of town for Fulton, Maryland. It is situated on a slave plantation purchased by Richard Waters in 1861. On 29 December 1874 the "Water's Store" post office opened. In 1877 a road was commissioned by the county between Water's store and Souder House. In 1887 Frederick Brinkman purchased the farm and store. The Post Office name was changed to "Fulton" in 1887.

Burtonsville is a census-designated place and an unincorporated area in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. It is situated in the northeast corner of Montgomery County, right on the border of both Howard and Prince George's counties. It is considered a suburban town in the Washington D.C. Metro Area. It is 20 miles southwest of downtown Baltimore, 16 miles north of downtown Washington D.C., and 25 miles from Annapolis. Burtonsville recorded a population of 9,498 as of the 2020 census.

Located North Laurel, Maryland in Maryland, United States. The John T. Warfield house is a historic house in North Laurel. The site is currently owned by the Maryland Milk Producers Association. John T. Warfield was a civil war draftee from Howard County. He married Rachel Virginia Dorsey, living at the 188-acre estate until 1899.The house is a one-story three-bay-wide wood building on a stone foundation built in 1885 for John T. Warfield. The Maryland State Highway administration hired the company Traceries to document the historical status of the property. The auditor described the site as non-historical, although John T. Warfield's other house of similar design, construction, era and architecture in Montgomery County was considered significantly historic

Hammond Elementary School and Hammond Middle School is a combination public elementary and middle school in Laurel, Maryland. It is part of Howard County Public School System.

Partnership, is a historic building constructed in Fulton, Maryland, in Howard County, although the land was part of Anne Arundel County at the time of the construction. The building was formerly one of the oldest in Howard County until its relocation in 1963 to Phoenix, Maryland in Baltimore County.Partnership is a three-bay wide brick construction house with a gambrel roof. The bricks were created on-site, some with animal footprints imbedded.In 1719, the land named Partnership was patented by Thomas Worthington (c. 1890–1753). A brick home was constructed on-site at what was a slave tobacco plantation. Worthington's daughter Katherine (1720–1788) took the property as part of a dowry to her marriage with Captain Nicholas Gassaway. Captain Gassaway (c. 1719–1755) resided on the property and estate in 1775 when he willed it to his son Brice John Gassaway (1755–1806). The house was bought by James Cox, then sold to Hamilton Moore in 1851. The house is best known as the Moore house, with Moore's granddaughter, Mrs. George Skaggs, owning it until 1960. The 700-acre farm was part of "Hell's Corner", with the southern boundary forming Scaggsville Road, and the post stop of Scaggsville, Maryland. The property was purchased by the Khrum family. In 1963, the property was purchased at the same time as large tracts of farmland were being assembled for the creation of The Rouse Company development Columbia. P.T. McHenry, the developer of Mooresfield single family homes sold the home to William W. Cooper for its relocation to Phoenix, Maryland, after the outbuildings were demolished.The building was featured in the 1969 film adaptation of Helen Jean Burn's Nightmare's Child on Maryland Public Television.

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (Applied Physics Laboratory, or APL) is a not-for-profit university-affiliated research center (UARC) in Howard County, Maryland. It is affiliated with Johns Hopkins University and employs 8,700 people as of 2024. APL is the nation's largest UARC.The lab serves as a technical resource for the Department of Defense, NASA, and other government agencies. APL has developed numerous systems and technologies in the areas of air and missile defense, surface and undersea naval warfare, computer security, and space science and spacecraft construction. While APL provides research and engineering services to the government, it is not a traditional defense contractor, as it is a UARC and a division of Johns Hopkins University. APL is a scientific and engineering research and development division, rather than an academic division, of Johns Hopkins. Hopkins' Whiting School of Engineering offers part-time graduate programs for Lab staff members through its Engineering for Professionals program. Courses are taught at seven locations in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area, including the APL Education Center.
