John T. Warfield was a civil war draftee from Howard County. He married Rachel Virginia Dorsey, living at the 188-acre estate until 1899.The house is a one-story three-bay-wide wood building on a stone foundation built in 1885 for John T. Warfield. The Maryland State Highway administration hired the company Traceries to document the historical status of the property. The auditor described the site as non-historical, although John T. Warfield's other house of similar design, construction, era and architecture in Montgomery County was considered significantly historic

Warfield's Range, also known as Philla Terra and Dr. Thomas Chew Warfield's Homestead, is a historic slave plantation home located between Laurel and Columbia in Howard County, Maryland. On 26 March 1696, Richard and John Warfield surveyed a 1,080 acre land patent named Warfield's Range along with others that totaled 1,862 acres. A log cabin was built onsite during this time which survived until 2001. In 1703, Richard Warfield granted 150 acres of Warfield's Range including the cabin to his daughter Rachel Warfield Yates. In 1765, 240 acres of the range were inherited by Benjamin Warfield's son Joshua Warfield. In 1845 Thomas Chew Worthington updated the log cabin interior with random width wood floors. After Peter Gorman completed his railroad contract, he purchased the 500-acre estate Fairview in North Laurel from Dr. Charles Griffith Worthington. The property was part of Warfiled's Range, containing the 1696 log cabin that survived until an arson fire in 2001 when relocated to accommodate the Warfield's Range development.

It is affiliated with Johns Hopkins University and employs 8,700 people as of 2024. APL is the nation's largest UARC.The lab serves as a technical resource for the Department of Defense, NASA, and other government agencies. APL has developed numerous systems and technologies in the areas of air and missile defense, surface and undersea naval warfare, computer security, and space science and spacecraft construction. While APL provides research and engineering services to the government, it is not a traditional defense contractor, as it is a UARC and a division of Johns Hopkins University. APL is a scientific and engineering research and development division, rather than an academic division, of Johns Hopkins. Hopkins' Whiting School of Engineering offers part-time graduate programs for Lab staff members through its Engineering for Professionals program. Courses are taught at seven locations in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area, including the APL Education Center.

Rocky Gorge Reservoir is located on the Patuxent River in Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George's counties in Maryland, between Laurel and Burtonsville. The reservoir was created in 1952 by the construction of the T. Howard Duckett Dam on the Patuxent. The dam is visible from Interstate 95 near milemarker 34. Because of its close association with a dam by the name, the reservoir is sometimes called the T. Howard Duckett Reservoir. It has a surface area of 773 acres (313 ha). The reservoir is maintained as a drinking water source by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). WSSC provides recreational facilities to the public on portions of the Rocky Gorge property, including hiking, picnicking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and hunting. Local fish species include pike and largemouth bass.

Reservoir High School is a public high school in Fulton, Maryland, United States. It was opened in 2002 and is a part of the Howard County public school system. The school is named for its proximity to the Rocky Gorge Reservoir. The school's mascot "Gators" was selected by vote in 2001, with school colors of Orange and Blue. The logo and fight song were the same as those of the University of Florida. In 2010, a cease and desist order was issued by the University, forcing the school to create a new logo.The school is located on Maryland Route 216, just west of U.S. 29 on 101 acres (0.41 km2) shared with Fulton Elementary School, Lime Kiln Middle School, and Cedar Lane School. Reservoir follows the same general design as Long Reach High School and Marriotts Ridge High School. Neighboring Howard County schools include Atholton High School, River Hill High School, and Hammond High School. Feeder schools for Reservoir include Hammond Middle School, Murray Hill Middle School, Patuxent Valley Middle School, and Lime Kiln Middle School. Reservoir is also well known for its work with and support for students at Cedar Lane School.

The Victor Myers Farm is a historic farm located in North Laurel, Howard County, Maryland. The Victor Myers Farm is a historic farm in North Laurel on an 80 acre parcel built in the early 19th century. In 1995, the county pursued demolishing the home to build the combination Gorman Crossing Elementary School and Murray Hill Middle School. The house has been restored and stands presently on a reduced parcel adjacent to the schools.
